I had heard of these guys thanks to reading Melody Maker back in the 1970's, but I can't remember any of their records every getting released here in the states, so I hadn't been able to listen to them until now. This is a cool song. It's kinda right in the middle between Slade and Mott the Hoople. Plus the guitarist with the black Les Paul reminds me of the guitarist in Boomtown Rats. Let's face it, the 1970's were the best.
+Colin MacGregor Just read your post and am unsure what you mean. I've web searched and found videos of them live at Barbs and Gary in a straight jacket. I, together with some mates went regularly and saw some amazing bands. Too many to mention. So what's a Fail please?
Peter Peach, You must have been stood next to me then :-) and yes they were truly awesome live ! Saw them loads through the '70's and loved it every time
gary holton is amazing i love him sooooooooo much n thanks for puttin this video on here i am watchin it all the time lol when i'm not watchin auf wiedersehen pet!!!
I saw HMK five times in 70s....everyone a classic. Saw the (new) HMK at Skegness last week (Jan 2011) they rock.....recommend you check them out. God bless the Kids
This gig was presented by the TV Show Disco 10-15-1977 not 1978:_)München Unterföhring Germany, Munich ..(ZDF, 2nd german television) I think this is one of the strangest performance I `ve ever seen.. Gary Holdon, the heavy metal kids- I like it so much!!! Remember Gary Holdon. Hughs, Manuel
me n my frend luv gary holton and we were soooo sad when he died and we only knew who he was when we saw the extremely fantastic auf wiedersehen pet!!! we still luv u gary!!!!
Wow! This song kicks ass! Is this the same band that was playing kinda glam rock just a few years prior to this? That opened once for KISS in NYC? I hear the Sex Pistols in this song. Excellent!
@denisedye1 Yep, was lucky enough to see them a few times, he was indeed an amazing showman :) There was also a Norfolk band around at the same time called Zorro who did a few HMK covers, and saw them at Camden Music Machine way back in the day, and Gary came on and did a couple of songs with them~their frontman was called Dave Smith, he was like a blonde version of Gary! (2 of Zorro later went on to join Splodgenessabounds). Ah the 70's ... :)
Fairplay Nacho - I love Brian Johnson as well but what I'm getting at is that - while we all know what a hugely successful band AC/DC are - if people are gonna talk about whether he should have / could have / would have joined AC/DC it's undermiming the importance of one of the best bands of all time - THE HEAVY METAL KIDS
Gary was also short listed to replace Bon Scott in AC/DC when he died, but the band thought he was to much a wild child ...like Bon Gary had had a heart attack previously and a few years later died of drugs & alchohol abuse. R.I.P Bon & Gary
I thought Gary and the gang were Grrreat! I know the song is" Delirious" but would Gary have been high then? its those eyes staring all the time? . Drugs have destroyed so many young lives, Gary as being one of them, so tragic so loved.God Bless ! x
Has anyone heard the McFly song that got to number one called Please Please? No please don't stop reading this! They nick a whole section of this song 'No one knows what I'm about, That's why I just scream and shout, Maybe I'm not on the right side of it' They sing the whole of that melody to different words. Can't Ronnie and Keith take them to court or something the little bastards.
They weren't considered a punk band at all, they had been around since at least 72 well before punk. They were considered a heavy rock band. Interestingly, when they started, the term 'heavy metal' term wasn't widely used ie. before Maiden etc..all bands like this were called heavy rock. They do look more punk in this video...probably influenced by the punk look around in 77. Kind of an English Ndw York Dolls really.
Agree teenangel69 - A huge majority of young bands all look (and sound) the same, you be hard pushed these days to look at a teenager and pinpoint what band(s) they were really into.
@@TheHeavyMetalKids, In that case, I would have to say that they were heavily influenced by Chinn & Chapman. I saw them at The Reading Festival around 1974, when Gary Holton was fronting the band.
They were massively influenced by Alice Cooper who Holton described as `perfect` and in turn they were a big influence on some punk bands like The Damned.
The shit about being in the front row was all the morons thinking that 'gobbin' at them was a sign of...whatevs! Remember them walking off in one place in Brum...they were over it...so was I!
Fucking great.....my childhood. Put a tape recorder in front of our TV and recorded it....was 9 then.
This has GOT to be one of the fore runners to punk rock.
Covered by the also weird Splodgenessabound
Other way round. Late 77, HMK adopting a punk sound and attitude.
@@ambhaz8599 That is correct. Must have have been easy for for them to adopt, though, as they had the mindset already.
Punks toujours. Qu'importe les années-lumière. 😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤
I cannot watch this without thinking of Auf Wiedershen Pet...
OI, LONDON!
This is just freakin' awesome.....such an energetic performance....and the kids around the stage look bewildered and frightened....marvelous....!!
First band I ever saw 'live' thanks to my big bro Luca, who took me to The Marquee in Wardour Street.
One of the best msuic live acts late 70th on festivals! Great shows with Gary Holton. Too bad he died early....
One of Gary`s strangest performances..
Great! 5 stars!
Phantastic Punk....!!!!! L0ve Heavy Metal kids forever............!!!!!!!!
Might just be my new favorite song. Good rocking with attitude.
The albums were good, but the songs really came to life in live performances.
Yep! Gary':s charisma was da bomb!
Jump cut madness !!
Gary having fun with the cameramen and editors and them having fun back !!
While the band CRUSHES ON !!
What a great tune . Amazing stuff, great guitar
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE POST SOME MORE LIVE HMK !!!!!!!
This is all but impossible to beat but we still need more !
Heavy Metal Kids rocks and that's a fact. I wish there were more bands like'em nowadays!

Saw them live at Barbarellas in Birmingham - sometime in the 70's. Gary done this in a straight jacket, and by the end was out of it. Awesome act.

Fantastic ***** !!!!!!
Excellent!
Gary was my idol when i was like 6 years old just from his acting, now as an adult even a bigger idol from his singing.
Absolutely great.
love you guys ,
Catch the Heavy Metal Kids live at The 100 Club London on Thursday March 3rd 2011.

Ich saß vorm Fernseher und bin abgefahren genial
Yeah I would got the Johns brother to produce their records...so close...like Slade meets Sham 69
He was actually considered as the replacement frontman for AC/DC when Bon died.
Heavy metal kids from a scale from 1-10 a 15 great jams.
i fell like that the way people treat me i feel delerious i wish this world could be a better place
@PinkGlamChick - how can anything be better than this?
Rest in peace
very punk in many ways, RIP gary
Yeah, the sound on this song reminds me of Sex Pistols. Fantastic song!

Yeah
Gary was also short listed to replace Bon Scott in AC/DC when he died, but the band thought he was to much a wild child ...like Bon
Gary had had a heart attack previously and a few years later died of drugs & alchohol abuse.
R.I.P Bon & Gary
Oh please - come on - nothing is better than this.
He sounds exactly like a dalek.
gary is not demented,he is able to act out the song,ie delirious.brilliant song sung by a great person/band.
I thought Gary and the gang were Grrreat! I know the song is" Delirious" but would Gary have been high then? its those eyes staring all the time? . Drugs have destroyed so many young lives, Gary as being one of them, so tragic so loved.God Bless ! x
I agree!
The Jerries proving to be a tough crowd as usual ...
Omg, so cool

Saw in tv and think crazy
JINGO DE LUNCH have a great version of this banger
I think its great- heavy metal, no - punk rock -yes. If i'd have been a kid around that stage I would ov been shitting myself!!
FABOLUSO!!!!
Jeez, just killing time on the internet - no idea what led me here, but awesome!!! Is it me, or were these guys the role model for Hanoi Rocks??
Yup...Lydon's blueprint confirmed.
so what- I only knew the demolition23/Michael Monroe Version if this song, but I like this too. the voice fits exactly...
Mike has a covers album called "Nights are so long". Recommended, in case you don't know about it

And demented are go!
Those germans do love to jump cut edit !!

Why are people commenting on AC/DC all the time.
Gary Holton singing with AC/DC?!! - no thanks -
he was in the HEAVY METAL KIDS
It`s Perry Farrell :-D
@eezzekiel
Keith Boyce is just to the left of the main stage.
@Alquit4 I watched the Hanoi Rocks version! BOLLOCKS!!!
Gary Was A Legend 😍🇬🇧
coarse and crude ! !
He sounds like Zippy lol
@eezzekiel - wouldn't you be uncomfortable with an inform Holton right next to you?!
He was so good he'd scare the shit out of people.
They’ve had a Punk makeover
like,
Agree teenangel69 - A huge majority of young bands all look (and sound) the same, you be hard pushed these days to look at a teenager and pinpoint what band(s) they were really into.
This has to have been written by Chin & Chapman, sounds very much like the Sweet in their later years.
No it was written by Ronnie Thomas the bass player and John Williams.
@@TheHeavyMetalKids, In that case, I would have to say that they were heavily influenced by Chinn & Chapman. I saw them at The Reading Festival around 1974, when Gary Holton was fronting the band.
Emilyy - Is the lead singer on speed?
No - it's what we called - in the seventies - entertainment -
something that's lacking with groups nowadays.
disco my ass..
bon scott younger~
nataliegi - what on Earth are you talking about?
Kids are scared to jam ,let go kids
I bet they wish they hadn't got stuck with the HMK name when punk started as they were more aligned with that than anything else.
This is to punk for me.
So funny how unresponsive audiences were in those days..
where the hell is the drummer?...and the audience looks really confused and uncomfortable
@dermot51 So you like it then! LOL!
Gary would have been cooler than Brian Johnson
he looks like jimmy savile in thids video
You're still gorgeous Gaz xxxx
R I P GARY U R MIST.
Natives probably would have given him tribal name "chicken face"
i can't believe it, did'nt know the hobbit can rock.. lol
They were massively influenced by Alice Cooper who Holton described as `perfect` and in turn they were a big influence on some punk bands like The Damned.
Having a few burbs, back in the 70's.....bliss!
these were unknown in England
Don't talk bollocks! That's why we had thousands of fans following us all over the country.
@theylive23 I think by the time this was released they had already shortened their name to just 'the kids' to fit in better with the punk scene.
I fear for those (presumably) innocent kids in the front row...
The shit about being in the front row was all the morons thinking that 'gobbin' at them was a sign of...whatevs! Remember them walking off in one place in Brum...they were over it...so was I!
Never seen such an unresponsive audience..
