Shri Khatu Shyam Baba, also known as Barbarika or Shyam Baba, is a revered deity in Hinduism, particularly venerated in the northern parts of India.
The origin of this divine figure can be traced back to the great Indian epic, the Mahabharata.
Barbarika, a brave warrior, was the grandson of Bhima and the son of Ghatotkacha. He possessed extraordinary powers, including the ability to perceive the essence of righteousness.
Legend has it that Barbarika was a witness to the Kurukshetra War, and he expressed his desire to participate in the battle.
To test his devotion and commitment, Lord Krishna posed a challenge. Barbarika agreed to participate but offered to sacrifice his head in the process.
Krishna, impressed by his unwavering devotion, granted him a boon.
