UPDATE: Dealership ended up replacing the front camera module, and the image is very clear (clearer than before) and haven't had any more issues with condensation. Thanks to my dealer!
The crack on the sunroof probably happened because you close the sunroof window while driving the car with all the other windows closed. It is normal, The crack will happen because of diffrantial pressure. The right way to do it is to open up doors windows while closing the sunroof.
@@haithamalhemam2026this is goof info. I had a Santa Fe where the piece that held up the sunroof somehow came off. So if I opened glass would hit each other in one corner
They should have done that in the first place that’s the difference with these budget luxury wannabe companies like genesis. They don’t think to make the customer happy. You need to return several times before they will finally replace things. That has been my unfortunate experience with genesis Coming from other high brands like BMW and Mercedes.
In August I got the 2023 prestige in savile silver. I must say I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Never bought an SUV but decided it was time. An amazing vehicle! I love it!!
Saville silver was another choice for me also. But was fortunate enough to get one of the last allocations for this spec (gold coast silver with black interior). Drive it in good health!
I bought mine in 2021 as well. Loved it. The seven seat Prestige in Cardiff Green and the green and brown interior. No problems, good customer service just felt good driving it. The one weird issue is that sometimes the seat wouldn’t put itself back fully after backing itself up for you to get in and out. I never had the camera issue. Unfortunately a drunk driver killed it a couple weeks ago. He drove straight through a stop sign, and both cars were right offs. I walked out with out a bruise, my wife had some road rash from the center air bag. I’ve put in an order for the exact same car, and should have the 2023 in January. I haven’t even bothered to look at other cars, I’m going straight back in to this one.
I'm glad you and your wife are fine after the accident. The GV80 received a 5 star overall safety rating from NHTSA, so glad that it did its job in protecting you. Can't blame you on going back to the same, since Genesis is starting to become a solid contender in the luxury segment. Moreover, they're starting to mandate their dealer network to build stand-alone dealerships to meet the industry standards within the luxury demographic.
So happy to hear that you're okay, and that there was no doubt you'd get another GV80. We just bought ours today. It's reassuring we made the right decision.
@@RichWithCars the dealership experience at Hyundai has been a common gripe from from Genesis vehicle owners. Anyone who has had the Lexus experience is spoiled for life. However, these vehicles are great, and Genesis seems invested in creating their own, special, ownership experience.
I have a Genesis GV80 Advanced model in Silver. I am overall pleased. The infotainment system can occasionally seem cumbersome with a 14+ inch screen but it takes some getting used to. I am very happy with the purchase and the car has been a pleasure to drive. The service from my Genesis dealership has been 2nd to none.
The infotainment system took a little to get used to, but now it's easy to navigate....I'm glad you're having a good experience with the service....I think Genesis has been gradually improving....
Thanks for posting. It’s good to know the pros and cons from a civilian perspective and not a salesman or car magazine rep that’s being paid to give a positive or negative review.
It's good to hear a review that includes problems. I've learned the hard way that the best reviews are from car owners who have owned the car for a while. Reviewers who just tell you the specifications and then take the car for a spin while telling you about the ride are not giving you the whole picture. The GV80 is a great looking car and getting a lot of attention right now, but it's not without problems.
Thanks for watching and your feedback. You're absolutely correct - and I'm guilty as charged on other reviews I've done. The problem is that it's very difficult to perform reviews on cars from a long-term perspective. The reviewer would either have to get a long-term press car or be well off to be purchasing several vehicles to own for at least a year. Otherwise, how could someone expect to get feedback without having the vehicle for at least 6 months to be able to uncover some of the car's gremlins.
I really like hearing an owner talk about what is going on with a vehicle in the direct manner you did. Your statements were very credible and spoke well of the GV80. Thanks much.
Just bought our GV80 today! Exact car and color Ben Hardy is reviewing, except interior color is different. I can't wait to get my hands on this beautiful car! Thanks, Ben Hardy, for the video, as we have our "tutorial" tomorrow, and the info you provided will help me learn all the bells and whistles.
Regarding CONDENSATION building up in your front view camera, simply hit it with a hot blow drier, going in close until the condensation shrinks to zero. It should only take a minute or so for it to return to eye -clean…should your replacement unit suffer the same fate! Thanks for the awesome home-spun review!
Thank you. Loved and appreciated your honest review. I am a Lexus RX 350 guy, and having leased five of them in the last ten years... I was considering a GV80 for my next lease... just to change things up. I love the GV80 design and performance. After watching your review I'll stay with a 2023 RX. I want reliability and those "small" issues (camera etc) would annoy me at this price point. Also, I don't think the dealerships are on par with the Lexus experience. Our local dealership still combines sales of Hyundai's with Genesis. Best of luck and I would love to see a follow-up video at the three year mark.
Can't disagree with you. Lexus owners are very loyal - I've always had a Lexus in my garage - including now. My 3 years with the GV80 will be coming up, so I'll see if I can make an updated 3 year ownership video. Thanks for watching and for your feedback!
I bought a 2024 GV80 Prestige model, just drove to and from AZ - Fl, MPG never dropped below 20MPG, even while driving 80mph through Texas IH 10. I experienced no issues, and my cameras were very clear and had no sensor issues. I am totally satisfied and get a lot of looks and compliments.
Congrats! You're gonna love it. I'm still very impressed with it after 18 months...the Hyundai/Kia/Genesis group is coming out with some really impressive products. Reminds me of the Toyota/Lexus stuff when they came out in 1989....
@@RichWithCars They really are! I have a 2022 G70 - it is amazing! I never thought 5 years ago that I would own a Hyundai/Kia/Genesis product, but will soon have 2!
@@RichWithCars I outbid, yes, outbid three other people for my 3.5t 2021 GV80 Asiatic Blue with black interior in May 2021, at Clarksville, Maryland. The four of us had seen it, called ahead, and showed up within minutes of each other. There were other GV80s in the lot, but this was the spec I wanted. I looked for the same features everywhere else, but we could only locate one other one in the East Coast: in New York. Supply was coming in, but 75% of them were pre-ordered. Things looked bleak. I had been looking at the car on UA-cam everyday for 11 months. I was besotted!!!!!!! I trained as a mechanic after my college degree, so I had a really good idea of what I wanted. This vehicle ticked all the boxes. I ended up paying $4,800 above mrsp (dealer markup), and I have no regrets till today. As a 52yr old, I was coming from Saab, Jaguar, Mercedes S-class, then this very stylish and very high-functioning luxury SUV. I drove it to Baltimore the next day, and while in the tunnel, my half-wound windows went up by themselves! And I saw a message on my screen saying the car "detected poor air quality and the ac was going into air recirculation mode!!!!!" This is not even in the manual! Coming out of the tunnel, my ac switched back to normal, and I lowered the windows by myself again. Maybe if I had waited a bit longer it would have done so by itself. I was already accustomed to all the bellflower, whistles and tricks before I purchased it. Lol. So it was a cruise from the start till this minute. I am the happiest when I am driving my GV80. Best car I ever bought. No problems so far, and will be two years in May 2023. I am one deliriously happy customer. Now my partner wants a GV70. Skeptical at first, but now, a believer❤❤❤❤❤. I'm in love with Genesis!
Thanks for watching! If you haven't given it a test drive, I highly recommend you do before pulling the trigger. Unfortunately I never tried out the 2.5T, so I cannot comment on the driving impressions.
Really depends how much space you need. But I also reviewed the GV70 and I'd say they're quite similar. If you want a sportier drive, go for the GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige
I have a 2024 Prestige Edition GV80 in bought in July and I think it's a great Suv compare to what else I was looking for, my only issue right now is the waiting for service, they have long waiting lines for scheduling appointments to bringing it in. Not enough certified techs to work on them also you can't take it into Hyundai same reasons, they don't have the software is what I was told in my area.
I was in the exact same position. Generally that's the primary downside of going with Genesis now as an early adopter of the brand. Both the sales and post sales experience alike. As the brand keeps growing and they roll out more stand-alone dealers, it'll improve. I'm one of the fortunate ones that my dealer just opened a stand alone Genesis dealership. Scheduling is only 1½ weeks out now - huge difference!
Also, have an issue with the Forward collision avoidance system not warning or trying to stop or slow the car down. Yes, I confirmed with dealership that I had it checked off correctly in the infotainment area of the settings. They say its the windshield camera in front of the rearview mirror. Yet collision avoidance works when cruise control is active. I hope there are 2 separate cameras in there, one for the cruise, and one for normal avoidance, otherwise they will be wrong
@@RichWithCars Turns out it was in need of a software update. After the update my infotainment center went blipp, blacked out came back on and all my radio stations and seat settings were deleted. Now they have to work on that.
I have a 2019 G70 that has the same problem with the proximity sensor. The dealer told me that sometimes dust in the air can cause the sensor to go off. Doesn’t happen all that often, so I can live with it. Overall it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I love driving it.
I'm glad you're enjoying your G70. I still think that the sensor issue is a manufacturer's defect, as it spans across all their models. Nevertheless, I still enjoy my GV80.
You seem like a sincere and honest person. On your sun roof I'd dare to say the dealership is just about as bad and deceptive as most dealerships are. The camera module should have been a no questions asked, get you a new one immediately reply. That is moisture that is inside the unit. I've seen it happen more than once. Next upgrade go to another Genesis dealership, yours sucks. I stopped buying Lincolns when my dealership told me rust around my fender wells on the rear was due to "outside rocks from the road hitting my paint ". Lincoln had major issues because they used a foam filler between the body panels winch trapped moisture and caused the rust to come through from the inside. By the way the car was two years old and had less than 30 thousand on it. Never going back to Lincolns. I'll stay with the Koreans and Japanese for my time left buying decent cars and machinery. And we do have the 2021 GV80 also. Going G90 sedan next time while GV80 is still at low mileage. Enjoy !
Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated 🙏 I try to stay away from GM and Ford based vehicles. My bro had to apply the lemon law on his CTS-V and got the mediator to force GM to buy back the car. We also had a Focus ST that didn't fare so well, which we sold after 6 months of ownership. The new G90 is an awesome flagship. Reminds me of what Lexus did back in the late 80's/early 90's with their LS when they entered the luxury market.
The sensors go off "in traffic/red light" because of the surface of the road. Many cities use magnetic proximity sensors to time the street lights as vehicles approach. Next time you are coming up to a light, look at the surface. You'll probably see shaped strips in the asphalt. Those emit a magnetic field. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean your vehicles advanced ultra-sonic sensor can't... because they can. Hope this helps. Nice ride!
That's a first that i hear of this. I'll definitely take you up on your recommendation and look down on the surface next time it happens. Out of curiosity, how do you know this? Thanks 🙏
@@RichWithCars I've worked for luxury car brands for years... take a look at the asphalt next time. You'll laugh when you figure it out. It will be an "well, I'll be damned" moment. I do have a request... if you were hard on the folks at the dealer about this, man up and apologize. We all need to be better humans. Good luck and God bless!
@@PaddyboySolis interesting! I'll definitely check out the surface next time I'm stopped at a red light. In regards to your request, no worries - will do, even tho I wasn't tough on them. Though my previous service advisor didn't know what she was talking about, and gave me a deflecting response to my inquiry/concern.
I can attest to having the sensors go off while sitting in a fast food drive-thru line...on more than one occasion...at different restaurants. So traffic sensors are not the only culprit.
Interesting. Your issue #1 and #2 are the same issues I have with my 2016 Hyundai Genesis sedan (now G80). At a stop light, I've trained myself not to pull up close behind a car...which is probably a good practice also to avoid carjacking! But overall, the car has been fantastic and fit and finish have held up very well even after 85k miles. Still get compliments on it from strangers.
Thanks for sharing your experience with Genesis! I test drove a Genesis GV 70 and loved how it drove - a perfect blend of comfort and sportiness!! However, I am a little hesitant because of concerns about quality and customer service, mostly because they are still a relatively young company with a limited track record. I must say, your experience with the moon roof validates my concern. I wonder how common rock chips are on sun/moon roofs. And that $1800 bill for that outweighs any savings on maintenance costs for 3 years. I am also concerned that for a luxury brand that there are limited “Genesis” dealerships around. I don’t want to have to buy my Genesis at a Hyundai dealership (goes to the customer service concern).I haven’t ruled out the GV 70 yet but am still skeptical. Thanks again! 🙏
I can't blame you on that and completely agree about the sunroof situation. I went to 3 different dealerships and they all denied responsibility due to manufacturer defect. Quite disappointing tbh
i have 2022 g70 and i had the smiliary proxity sensor issue with front passenger side. it is pretty annoying. i took it in to the dealer 3 times, and 3rd time they fixed it. they said the bracket and connector was installed wrongly form the factory. 1st time i took it in, they swithc from rightside to left side to see if sensor was bad, and it persisted on ther front passenger side. 3rd trip, they reinstall it and it fixed it.
I had the same issue with condensation in the front camera module within the first 6 months of ownership. The dealership replaced the camera, and the issue has never occurred again.
I Feel that Genesis Dealers are not on par with Lexus dealers.Ways to go!!!Many are combined with Hyundai and their Front desk do not how to treat Customers.Mine is a 2021.
I completely agree. The fact that the majority of them are merged with Hyundai dealerships makes both the sales and after sales experience below par. They've started building stand-alone Genesis dealerships now, but they have a long way to go to catch up to Lexus.
Seems like it's an issue with their tech across the entire model linuep. I've gotten feedback from others with the G70 and GV70 that have the same issue.
Has anybody had or heard of the sunroof glass fracturing after engaging the button to tilt mode? I heard a loud pop right after starting my car in the garage. Didn't think much of it until my wife got in. From her angle, she saw it right away. It was right above my head. No sign of any kind anywhere on the roof to indicate something hit it, especially in my garage.
Wow, sorry to hear that. I went through the exact same situation. Dealer said it was a rock chip - tho I'm not so sure about that - I would've heard it. Curious to know how many other people experienced this
@@RichWithCars I just registered on a Genesis blog site. It seems this is more common than we think. You might want to pull that up and print it out and get reimbursed for the repair you had to make. I will be doing that this Monday when I bring my car to the dealership.
@dmilano56 which blog did u see this on and pls keep me posted on the status of your situation pls. I will do the same once you send me the info. You can shoot me an email: RichAndCars@gmail.com
I've read that Hyundai/Genesis uses cheap glass. Several people have posted about windshields cracking for no reason, including exploding sunroofs. Hopefully you won't have anymore issues with your GV80. It's a beautiful SUV.
@pedrofernandez8729 wow, that's the first time I hear of that. And yeah, fuel injector failing after 20k miles? Well, glad it got replaced under warranty...
Thanks for your feedback. Regardless of what it was, the dealer ended up replacing the camera module. I just found it odd that it would fog up like that. But your explanation could be very plausible. Thanks!
Being a retired insurance broker I believe you were dealt with dishonestly by your insurer and/or Genesis dealer .The policy has a comprehensive section which is an all-risk coverage with a few exclusions including collision which is covered under a separate section of the policy .A flying object striking and damaging the car is not an excluded coverage so whether the stone hits the windshield or sun roof both incidents are covered by the comprehensive coverage of your policy.I imagine your insurer probably told you the damage is a default in the car construction so they must be able to justify their assumption before saying that the damage is not covered under the flying object coverage found under the comprehensive section of your policy .You should not be the one paying to repair the damage as it is either a construction default or it is covered by the comprehensive section of your policy .Hope this helps !
Thanks for the feedback. Not sure if I can go back to the dealer and have them cover something I already paid for. But I definitely appreciate your insight 🙏
And not sure if I can leave Lexus dealership experience since Genesis doesn't have its own separate luxury dealership, and is still with Hyundai dealership.
The GV80 is really nice. Unfortunately I haven't seen the new RX in person yet, but I hope it sits at the same level as the GV80, since I'm a Lexus fan.
Yes - one massive downside to the Genesis ownership experience is the after sales service. They have improved over the past 6 months, but doesn't rival Lexus. Genesis is now mandating many of its dealers to build stand-alone Genesis dealerships. In fact, my dealer has begun construction on their new Genesis dealership building - will be one of the first in the nation.
@@RichWithCars that would be a game changer. Until then I don't think I can do it. I love the size n style of gv80 but for 60k +, it doesn't have wireless apple car play. That's surprising. The 23 RX is pretty sweet.
I have seen a lot of videos regarding the GV80 and GV70 and both vehicle have been suffering with these cracked sun roofs. It has become an international issued that Genesis is refusing to cover and telling customers what they told you. This is not the case it is a manufacturers issue with the sun roofs popping all over the world. From what I have read they are cracking due to pressure of the car pressing the sun roof. Just thought you should know. I think this will result in a class action in the future.
I sincerely appreciate the feedback. And I've seen/read similar with others suffering from the same. If there is a class action, then I'll definitely be joining in on it!
That shouldn't be happening on any vehicle....especially if you're at least 10 ft away....Genesis hasn't resolved it and apparently it's a commonality across all models...
Thats interesting, if you have comprehensive insurance then the sunroof should be covered by insurance regardless if it is windshield or not since it is still glass on the vehicle. Especially if dealership is saying it is likely from rock chip and not a defect from manufacturing.
Get a new insurance company! Never heard of such nonsense! You should only have had to pay the deductible ! Love the GV80 and hope to have one in the near future!
we also had a huge mystery crack in the sunroof. i found it when i detailed the car. we live in the rock center of the world in phoenix so i'm still not sure but i'll ask the dealer when i take it in for the free oil change. my wife loves her genesis and everyone likes the appearance.
I am/was really thinking of getting a GV70 or 80. But when I see reviews. I keep seeing one or two super bad reviews about customer service. And this makes me super leery.
Yes I definitely understand your concern. Initially, the service was atrocious, but over time, I've noticed that it has improved. Also, Genesis is mandating many of its dealers to build stand-alone dealerships. So eventually, the entire after sales experience should improve.
I would love one, but the Prestige edition is all I would want for the interior. Just a bit out of my price range as I will only go to 65K 70K if I really just fall in love with something.
You can always pick up a used one . . . lots of low mileage ones to be had, sold by people who are rich enough to trade tearly and who don't rack up lots of miles. One thing is that as the second owner you would not get the free factory maintenance
More like 81k for a 2023. Bought my 3.5T prestige with 22’s today-and it’s gorgeous! Love it! Thanks for the review. Happy to hear you’ve been pleased with it this far.
@user-mc4sq3fk5d you should check out my other 2 videos discussing the difference between hyundai and genesis (stand alone dealer) experience: ua-cam.com/video/02bhqTjUkuM/v-deo.html And ua-cam.com/video/zHG3T-3XeXI/v-deo.html
Doesn't your accident insurance covers all glassed surfaces? I pay a few money extra over EU standard mandatory insurance for coverage of accidental window damage with no doubt it's worth. It already saved me a significant amount when front windshield got cracked.
Unfortunately it would be considered under a comprehensive claim, and I have a higher deductible of $1000. Given that this was about $1,800, I didn't want it to affect my future premium.
Hello, it was nice to see your video an ur explanation which was great help at this time where my son request I should buy this one. We are based in Saudi Arabia and we plan to buy this model, it would have been gr8 if more info on comfort would have added.
Thanks for watching! You can try watching one of my other 2 videos on the GV80 to look for the feedback on comfort: 1) ua-cam.com/video/PWkry1VvVlo/v-deo.html 2) ua-cam.com/video/wVG5zJ3rILM/v-deo.html
The Genesis GV80 definitely punches above its class. The only caveat is the service experience, as the brand is still in the process of rolling out its own stand alone dealerships
I am disappointed that there was no real world fuel efficiency described. I don't think that Genesis has focused, so much, on building a fuel efficient vehicle. I find that odd, because I have a 2010 3.8 Genesis, and I find it astonishingly efficient for it's size. (It has been a very low cost vehicle to maintain). I will note that on certain car mag sites if you say anything negative about a vehicle experience, they will delete your post; the sun roof issue, without a known accident, and with the suggestion in the video that it has happened to others, may eventually be a recall, and I hope you are reimbursed if that proves to be the case. A recurrence of that sun roof crack, blamed on another "accident", would be a sign that Genesis is not stepping up to their responsibilities. Your vehicle is beautifully detailed, looks brand new; you are meticulously caring for it. The design of the vehicle is exceptional, and avoided the new, side-swoopiness, bulging light fixtures, of the new Lexus'. I'm discouraged Lexus has gone this direction on design, but they have lost me, though my personal ownership experience (GS 400) had been good. Actually, better than good. Lexus really backs their owners, so I know making this transition was not without some forethought. No doubt, this vehicle is strikingly beautiful. But I hope they come up with mild hybrid that will make the vehicle more efficient.
Thanks for the detailed feedback. I couldn't say the fuel efficiency on the GV80 has been great for me, considering it's a TT V6. I've averaged around 17 mpg - no bueno. Thanks, I do try and keep my vehicles in clean and good condition. They did a phenomenal job with the design, especially being their first ever SUV.
I've been in RX350's since 2008.... The car never really changed...even the 2023 changes are mostly cosmetic. I do say they're GREAT cars, I never had as much as a burned out tail light. I decided on the GV80 and so far, happy with my decision. I see them equally reliable with the GV80 winning the appearance contest by a large margin. Look around you...every third car is a Lexus RX.....my GV stands out on the road, at the gas station or in my driveway with many compliments... I chose the Saville Silver with the black interior. oh, love the natural wood in the cabin....
@@naveenverycool1 no worries. If the active safety features like smart cruise and lane keep are important for you, I just released a video on it l, which you can view below: ua-cam.com/video/t_SoS5x6kg4/v-deo.html
Im b/t these 4--Lexus 350H, Genesis GV80, Mazda CX-90, or Acura MDX. Different price points, but looking for long term reliability. Any thoughts I would appreciate it
I'd say Lexus - but the new 350H has a new 4-cyl engine with the hybrid system and it's the 1st gen of the redesigned model. Hard to say. I've had my GV80 for 2 yrs now and haven't had any additional issues since I recorded the video. Personally, I'd go between the Lsxus or the Genesis. Both have been ranked within the top 3 brands in the last 2-3 years in the JD Power reliability study. Check the forums to see if any owners of the latest RX have had any issues. Good luck!
The sunroof should be covered by dealer...the crack came from the frame. I bet they took a metal punch and put the chip in it to not cover the R and R.
@@RichWithCars ... if you actually saw the chip prior then that's another story. However I wouldn't put it past a dealer to chip it themselves then show the customer to not cover it. Yesterday was the first time seeing one of these vehicles... very sharp looking SUV. But their reputation for bad failing engines kinda worry me.
Yes I don't disagree. I went to 3 different dealers and they all said it wasn't a manufacturer's defect. Frankly, that's just plain laziness from the dealers, since they would make money from the manufacturer by replacing it under warranty. I would've had to file a complaint directly to the manufacturer, which I don't have the time for.... I don't think the warranty is bad, I truly believe the dealership network (using Hyundai dealerships) for this luxury brand is sub-par
It should, but never tried it. I attempted to use the self parking feature once, and it had a bit of trouble finding a space. I might have been doing it wrong tho.
It all depends on how you drive it and what mode you're usually in. I typically leave mine in ECO and I'm averaging about 16.5 mpg. Let's just say it's not the best fuel efficiency for a TT V6
They shouldn't fight you replacing the camera. Hyundai dealership? Not many Genesis free standing dealerships. Re the proximity sensor mine always goes off when I stop behind a Tesla, Audi and other German car makers. It took me a while to figure out why the sensor was going on. The crack is a Genesis related issue and they should've covered that for you.
Did you end up getting your sensor issue resolved? I'm still dealing with mine. Sometimes it gets so out of hand that I have to turn off the feature, and then I turn it back on. Shouldn't be that way tho....
@@RichWithCars No, I accept this is happening because these other cars are basically sending out a signal,"stay away from this car.":) Whenever I'm behind a Tesla I try to stay as far back as possible at a light, though it still happens. Audi's also cause the alarms to go off as well. You'd think I'm about to crash into the car in front of me.
hey how’s everything been w this car after 3 years more or less …? reliability been good? (Other than what you said in the vid ofc). Looking at a Genesis GV70/80 or a Jaguar F Pace SVR. For everyone that clowns on jag sm I’ve heard a lot of happy owners, then again idk anyone who’s got one with higher mileage (looking to buy my next car w like 20k miles and looking to keep it til 70k ish). The supercharged v8ness of the jag is amazing , but the insane luxury of this makes it such a hard decision, tho I still got a few months to decide. Got any tips? 😂
Those 2 SUV's are very different from a performance perspective. Really depends on what you value more - luxury (and reliability) or performance. I can't comment much on the Jag long term ownership, since I don't have that experience. Good luck!
@@RichWithCars oh I believe it for sure, it turns my head always so I’m one those ppl🤣. Thanks for the replies, definitely this or gv70 on the top of my list
@gloxzii3790 I'd probably take a closer look at the GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige. You have the same 3.5L TT engine as in the GV80 but in a smaller package, thus quicker. You'll be a little closer to the performance of the SVR (not quite there yet tho), and have very similar luxury and REALLY nice design. I actually prefer the interior layout and materials on the GV70 than the GV80.
Ya, they said it wasn't a common issue, even tho I showed them forum posts from other models in their range showing similar issues. This isn't even remotely as bad as my experience with BMW. Check out my other video with my experience with my F90 M5.
Only applies to the matte finish. I have 23 Matterhorn White GV80, I just take it to a touchless car wash or hand car wash, never any issues with paint. I also ceramic coated the paint and Interior, which probably helps. Paint looks beautiful, thought I'd share, thanks for all your opinions! 😁
@Vu Hoang I have heard some not good things about the GV80's realibity and problems early in the ownership in some cases. For your small sample size, have you had any problems?
Got the G70 last year. Great car! My 8y rx350 electronics are going crazy. Dealer quoted $14k!!! Won't give me a deal on trade in. Screw Lexus. Going GV80 in the summer.
Wow, that's surprising. I'm sorry to read about your troubles with your RX - very uncommon to hear that from Lexus. You won't be disappointed with Genesis....except for maybe their service. Good luck!
I'm a Lexus enthusiast - and agree that Lexus eclipses over Genesis in regards to dealer support and service. Not sure if the resale value is that bad though. The vehicle is also very solid....
@@RichWithCars Its basically a Hyundai, so yes it’s resale is nowhere near a Lexus or even a Toyota. Just sold a Hyundai Santa Fe, in excellent condition and took it in the shorts. Especially now that used car values have plummeted. Again good luck.
Owned one in Canada for a year. Junk! Parked mine outside year-round and they hate cold weather. That 3.5 TT V6 is not going to have any kind of longevity. Traded ours for a 2022 RX350
Wow - I'm surprised to hear that, and sorry you went through so many issues in cold weather. I wouldn't know how it performs in cold weather conditions, as I'm in Florida. Genesis ranked 2nd just under Lexus in the JD Power US Dependability study. I'm both a Lexus and Genesis fan tho....

Pathetic on Genesis... not a true luxury brand at all. I had a similar issue with my Audi A4, brought it in and it was taken care of spot on no questions asked, no charge.
Ya, at the beginning they were quite disappointing, but with time I've noticed improvements with the level of service. Don't get me wrong, they still have a long way to go to match the likes of well established brands like Lexus (from a post sales service perspective)....
Awesome car Rich - however you got absolutely mucked around by the dealer when it came to your sunroof issue (certainly not a genesis dealer only issue) - it was clearly a manufacturing fault as explained in this video here ... ua-cam.com/video/aM0T9WxP6Q0/v-deo.html - it is practically impossible for an impact from a stone thrown up from the road etc to break/crack a sunroof and you would be in good standing for a refund for your sunroof if you were to pursue it legally.
@@RichWithCars if it went to court that is true (unless you are awarded court and legal costs) however a letter from a lawyer outlining the facts might yield a positive result without having to go to court and would only cost a relatively small amount. Your choice of course, some things aren't worth the hassle if you have already moved on.
UPDATE: Dealership ended up replacing the front camera module, and the image is very clear (clearer than before) and haven't had any more issues with condensation. Thanks to my dealer!
Did that fix the front sensor going off? This is happening with my gv70 after my front camera sustained a small chip
I am happy both of you came out of the accident alive and well.
@@RichWithCars the dealership experience at Hyundai has been a common gripe from from Genesis vehicle owners. Anyone who has had the Lexus experience is spoiled for life. However, these vehicles are great, and Genesis seems invested in creating their own, special, ownership experience.
i hope you sued that ahole and get a fk ton of money.
Thanks for watching and hope you got something out o f it...
I'm glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching. 👍
Congrats, hope you enjoy it in good health!
Thanks for the info - I'll def keep that in mind!👍
That's amazing MPG! Congrats on the vehicle and glad you haven't experienced any issues!
That’s super poor fuel economy! That’s one bad thing in this GV80
My wife and I have a GV80 on order - so glad to hear you're having a great experience with yours!

I appreciate your time spent and info brought out. I'm seriously considering the Genesis GV80 with the 2.5T.
Thanks for watching! If you haven't given it a test drive, I highly recommend you do before pulling the trigger. Unfortunately I never tried out the 2.5T, so I cannot comment on the driving impressions.
@@RichWithCarsit’s definitely not the same ride quality and experience
Considering buying one.
Good and very useful information.

Apart from the issues I mentioned, the car has been amazing. Very happy with it. Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching!👍
I'm glad you love it and thanks for sharing. It will be my next vehicle. Not sure wether I'll go the 70 or 80 yet
Hopefully, otherwise that could be dangerous...
@@RichWithCars Turns out it was in need of a software update. After the update my infotainment center went blipp, blacked out came back on and all my radio stations and seat settings were deleted. Now they have to work on that.
The proximity sensor alert in my Genesis G70 also goes off frequently when I’m sitting at a light, particularly after a rain.
I guess it's a Genesis thing then....kinda disappointing tbh.
Enjoy !
Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated 🙏
I try to stay away from GM and Ford based vehicles.
Great video. It was very informative while deciding on a beautiful GV80.
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful. Good luck on the purchase!
@@craigschannel9461 I wonder what it is then....ultra sensitive sensors?
Interesting. Your issue #1 and #2 are the same issues I have with my 2016 Hyundai Genesis sedan (now G80). At a stop light, I've trained myself not to pull up close behind a car...which is probably a good practice also to avoid carjacking! But overall, the car has been fantastic and fit and finish have held up very well even after 85k miles. Still get compliments on it from strangers.
Glad to hear that the car has been great so far. But I still believe that our sensors shouldn't be acting up like that...
Beautiful review it takes an owner to review a car and it was done well I am thinking of getting a gv80 advance I think I am convinced
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Glad it was helpful!
This seems to be a common issue with all Genesis models....
I had the same issue with condensation in the front camera module within the first 6 months of ownership. The dealership replaced the camera, and the issue has never occurred again.
That's great to hear. I'm glad you got your issue fixed. Hopefully my replacement is coming in soon.
I have the 2023 3.5 Prestige in Himalayan Grey with dune interior. I love it but yes having the same issue with the proximity sensor.
Seems like it's an issue with their tech across the entire model linuep. I've gotten feedback from others with the G70 and GV70 that have the same issue.
Such a beautiful brand! Someday I hope to get mine🙏🙌🏻❤️
I hope so too!
I thank you for this video. I am a new owner of genesis and your video has provided me with information.

@pedrofernandez8729 wow, that's the first time I hear of that. And yeah, fuel injector failing after 20k miles? Well, glad it got replaced under warranty...
my thoughts on camera, I believe there is a small hairline fracture around lens that allow small amount
of moister into the lens area.
Thank you for this. Torn between gv80 and new 2023 RX redesign.
@@mig3872 Your Carplay concern is easily rectified for about $100 . . .
My BMW X7 has the same proximity sonar sensor issue too when at a red light and or stop and go traffic.
A little late now, it's already been paid. But I asked my insurance and they said it wasn't covered...
Get a new insurance company! Never heard of such nonsense! You should only have had to pay the deductible !
Love the GV80 and hope to have one in the near future!
@@louiscandreva8850 yes I could've done that, but my deductible was $1000. For the $800 I'd save, I didn't want to file a claim....

A fully loaded 3.5T Prestige will run you marginally more - at $73k +/-
You can always pick up a used one . . . lots of low mileage ones to be had, sold by people who are rich enough to trade tearly and who don't rack up lots of miles.
One thing is that as the second owner you would not get the free factory maintenance

The Genesis GV80 definitely punches above its class. The only caveat is the service experience, as the brand is still in the process of rolling out its own stand alone dealerships
So Genesis doesn’t come with 10 years warranty like Hyundai ? Only 5 ?
The Genesis GV80 has a 5-year or 60,000-mile general warranty and a 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
Is the reliability BMW like or Lexus like long term with this brand?
So far, I'd say it's closer to Lexus....
I just bought a 2022 prestige Advanced package. I already broke the tail gate latch silver plate.
😞 sorry to hear that. Should be covered under warranty
Could you please tell me how many miles you've put on your GV 80 so far?
About 25k miles.
Is it quieter and smoother ride than the the lexus rx 350?
Most definitely!
Not sure if it's smoother than the RX...especially with 22's
I've been in RX350's since 2008.... The car never really changed...even the 2023 changes are mostly cosmetic. I do say they're GREAT cars, I never had as much as a burned out tail light. I decided on the GV80 and so far, happy with my decision. I see them equally reliable with the GV80 winning the appearance contest by a large margin. Look around you...every third car is a Lexus RX.....my GV stands out on the road, at the gas station or in my driveway with many compliments... I chose the Saville Silver with the black interior. oh, love the natural wood in the cabin....
How is the torque, how many seconds does it take to 0-60 ?
391 lb-ft and about 5.3 secs to 60mph
@@RichWithCars that's super quick compared to X7. This clears all my doubts to make my decision to buy Genesis. Thank you.
@@naveenverycool1 no worries. If the active safety features like smart cruise and lane keep are important for you, I just released a video on it l, which you can view below:

Thanks Bro - I appreciate you...

Good luck!
Grate video my friend but still can’t make up my mind GV80 or MDX type S 🤔🤔 any one help plz….
GV80 all day long - but I also think it's considerably more expensive
@@RichWithCars I was thinking the same thing GV80 to high in price but the MDX IS Affordable… thanks for the feed back ✊🏿💯
The sunroof should be covered by dealer...the crack came from the frame. I bet they took a metal punch and put the chip in it to not cover the R and R.
Yeah, I'm starting to truly believe that. The chip was there prior to taking it to the dealer.
@@hmdwn most of the failing engines were on the 2.5L I-4. The 3.5L TT V6 hasn't had many issues.
@@RichWithCars ... define "hasn't had many issues"
It has a great warranty. Didn`t cover the (known) issue with a cracked sunroof but it has a warranty. Lol. Hyundai, nuff said.
Have you done any towing with it?
No I have not. Unfortunately I cannot provide any feedback in regards to towing characteristics
Does it do parallel park assist?
It should, but never tried it. I attempted to use the self parking feature once, and it had a bit of trouble finding a space. I might have been doing it wrong tho.
Thank you for your response
Bought mine in Dec. How is yours on gas? I'm probably averaging about 15mpg not sure if its normal or maybe I should get it checked.
I have a 2023 G70 and it seems to happen more for me when I'm behind Fords and Jeeps in addition to other luxury vehicles
We have a G70 sport sedan. Outstanding car.
I've test driven the G70 and was quite impressed. Enjoy!
I had the same "problem" with proximity sensor (G70, 2021).
@user-mc1zn5fn5u seems like a lot of the problems on Genesis vehicles are apparent on different models. Most likely due to parts sharing....
hey how’s everything been w this car after 3 years more or less …? reliability been good?
Good luck!
@@RichWithCars thanks! All good with the Genesis tho? No problems ?
@gloxzii3790 no new issues since I made the video. Very happy with it and believe it or not, I still get compliments on it!
I’m a Hyundai tech and I hate doing tire rotations on these.
Really? Is it because they're 22's?
Thats why you're a Hyundai tech...

Thanks for watching. Glad you found it useful!
Thanks for telling me this i am looking to buy this car give or take in 2 weeks I’ll have it
That's awesome! Best of luck on the purchase!
I sure hope you didn't buy.
Nice suv for sure. Not a fan of the GPS system look
To each their own. I was hoping that Genesis would make the AR GPS view available in the North American market. For some reason, they didn't tho.
I love my 2021Gv 80 3.5TT.
I agree! Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you sir !
Thank you for watching!
i wont get the car just cuz they didnt cover the sunroof, when its been a common problem
Ya, they said it wasn't a common issue, even tho I showed them forum posts from other models in their range showing similar issues. This isn't even remotely as bad as my experience with BMW. Check out my other video with my experience with my F90 M5.
Are you using premium fuel?
All the time. 93 octane.
@@RichWithCars thank you

I heard that you was not supposed to take the GV80 in the car wash because it damages the paint in the long run.
Really? If that's the case, then the quality and layers of coats on the GV80 must be low....
You can not take the Prestige with a Matte paint finish through a car wash, which will damage the finish. Matte finishes HAVE to be hand washed!
@bear55811 agreed. That's why I'd never purchase a matte finish car. If I'd ever want a matte finish, then I'd do a matte wrap or Xpel Stealth.
Beautiful ride, but info screen looks so far away
@hockeynutt9434 true about the distance of the screen, but you have redundant controls in the middle console
What about MPG? I love this SUV but I heard it is a gas-guzzler.
Ya, it's not great. I'm averaging about 17½ mpg.
Good luck!
Cracked sunroof that cost you almost $2,000 bucks to fix out of your pocket on a brand new vehicle is unacceptable
Agreed - at this point a bit too late - but my company paid for it tho....
Change insurance I work replacing glass and insurance paid for that
Looking to switch this year. Thanks!
I love my GV80 Prestige. My parking sensor randomly went off before. I'm going to look around for a Ford or BMW next time.
Glad to hear someone else has similar issues (not in a bad way!)...curious to see if you notice that it mainly goes off around BMW's and Ford's.
@@RichWithCars I didn't know when it happened. Now im going to look for it. I'll check back and let you know.
Wooooh 5yrs 60k miles???? Warranty???
Yup
Lack of dealer support and resale value would detract most. Hard to beat Lexus. Good luck.
@@kurtwl understood and sorry to hear that....
So other cars give off sonar which gets picked up by the proximity sensor?
🤷
Owned one in Canada for a year. Junk! Parked mine outside year-round and they hate cold weather. That 3.5 TT V6 is not going to have any kind of longevity. Traded ours for a 2022 RX350
Wow - I'm surprised to hear that, and sorry you went through so many issues in cold weather. I wouldn't know how it performs in cold weather conditions, as I'm in Florida. Genesis ranked 2nd just under Lexus in the JD Power US Dependability study. I'm both a Lexus and Genesis fan tho....
Sure you did.
Genesis in known for reliability? Anyone else have a Genesis and feels that way?

I still remember the 1986 Hyundai
Crazy how far the entire group has come (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis)
😢 I love this so much this is my beautiful car the problem is I can't afford it LOL I do think it's an awesome car
Genesis did a phenomenal job with this SUV...
It's kind of funny when I hear the commercial that's fine car my heart races I love just hearing it on the commercial if a gorgeous cart not many women my age know anything about cars I love cars from my childhood I'll be there in a heartbeat if I can get one but I need something in my life real trains
@teresagaut822 never seen a commercial for the GV80....
It's because Tyler was survived recording that car Tiger Woods survived
@@adamgoof 🤦
Awesome car Rich - however you got absolutely mucked around by the dealer when it came to your sunroof issue (certainly not a genesis dealer only issue) - it was clearly a manufacturing fault as explained in this video here ... ua-cam.com/video/aM0T9WxP6Q0/v-deo.html - it is practically impossible for an impact from a stone thrown up from the road etc to break/crack a sunroof and you would be in good standing for a refund for your sunroof if you were to pursue it legally.
Thanks for the advice. I'll look into it, but not sure if the effort is worth it. The cost of an attorney would equal the amount already spent....
@@RichWithCars if it went to court that is true (unless you are awarded court and legal costs) however a letter from a lawyer outlining the facts might yield a positive result without having to go to court and would only cost a relatively small amount. Your choice of course, some things aren't worth the hassle if you have already moved on.
