  • Rules define what types of statements are allowed to run on the DBMS, which types are forbidden, and which types should be monitored. Its rules are of two types vPatch and Custom rules.
    1. vPatch rules are embedded rules which are used to identify known vulnerabilities in a database. They are predefined
and can be modified but not deleted. Once these rules are violated, it triggers actions based on its settings by the administrator.
    2. Custom rules are rules defined by the administrator to monitor specific activities on the database which triggers specific actions when violated. These rules are tailored to specific environment based on its prevalent activities and its business requirements.
It is important to note that every incoming statements are checked against the vPatch Rules list before the Custom Rules List. Depending on your environment, some administrators disable the vPatch rules and focus solely on the custom rules while some use both. Also, the vPatch rules are updated by Mcafee automatically.
