    I love my Gazelle bike from the Netherlands that I bought from Go Dutch back in 2021. I would only trade it in for a or get in addition a Dutch bakfietsen (cargobike). 😊

    I'm fine using my folding bike. I have bike racks, fenders/mudguards and lights. The only improvement I could always add is a chainguard with more coverage. My bike is low step and I get to sit upright to see what's going on in the street at all times.

    Where I live in Germany, close to the Dutch border, these bikes get thrown away just for having a flat tire, you can get one for free and repair it for ten bucks, and then it lasts you basically forever… Awesome bikes! Highly recommended for everyday use

    Pittsburgh's adapting well. Slowly but foward. However It seems every bike around is built to charge down a mountain with a Rambo knife in your teeth! We need to get hold of a heap of these.

    It's no doubt a great bike but still it depends on what you are going to use your bike for. I live in a condo and only folding bikes make sense to me.

    I got my first dutch bike from a lovely German couple returning from Dublin to Germany (they had to just unload it), and I restored it, rebuilding the Sachs Torpedo hub and fixing the rust and respraying the fenders and so on. Being a long-time roadie, this was a big change, but I'm converted 100%, I use it for short trips around Dublin, with panniers and a dynamo light, it is perfect - except it is heavy when loaded, so I'm planning a front-wheel e-bike kit for assistance to make it even more easy to use. Dutch bikes are the ideal platform for car replacement, and if anyone is serious about reducing car dependence, using a dutch bike has to be in their "top 5" of things they can do, to save time and money and improve their quality of life.

    I tried a Dutch bike if I was smart I would hire all the Dutch engeriners that made the bike lands in Holland and have them redesign the American bike lanes and even highways for bike users that could use them over sharing the road with cars and then import millions of Dutch bikes to America in all 50 states so every one could have authentic Dutch bikes as well as American variants of Dutch bikes and Dutch ebikes

    There is/ was a shop selling those used bikes in Edmonton. Not a lot of Dutch bikes sold new here. Pashley's and Linus bikes were all the rage from 2005 to 2014 or so.
    Then our $ dived. One day I actually saw a teen boy on a Pashley. I didn't like the high BB.
    All 3 of my bikes are IGH roadsters. My tour heavyweight is 100% custom my design with a Rohloff14 and SA XL-FDD dyno drum brake. Both are 100% fantastic. All have old swept comfort chrome bars. Dyno lights always on. I love my SA XL-RD5w on the highway doing up to 133 miles.
    Roller brakes OTOH are 100% the STUPIDEST thing ever put on a bicycle. They drag 100% of the time and heat up faster than a firecracker. USELESS on any hill.

    In our area most bikes have mud guard, integrated lights etc., but are not Dutch bikes. The reason is that it is quite hilly and Dutch bikes do not work so well there. In the 1980s even before mountain bikes became popular , this development started when classic bikes not so much different from the Dutch ones were combined with multi gear systems 5/10/20/30 gears and became a bit more light weight by using aluminium frames.and got a bit more sporty position to make long rides comfortable. That is not an argument against Dutch bikes. They are stylish, heavy duty and work well on short trips and we have a shop for them in town as well, but just a hint that there is a lot more than just Dutch bikes and unpractical sports bikes on the market.

    • @godutchbikes4515
      @godutchbikes4515  8 місяців тому

      Absolutely! It's fascinating to see how different regions adapt to their unique terrain and preferences when it comes to bikes. It's true that Dutch bikes have their own charm with their stylish design and durability, perfect for everyday trips and urban commuting. But you're spot on in pointing out that there's a whole world of options out there beyond just Dutch bikes and hardcore sports models. The evolution of bikes over the years, especially with the integration of multi-gear systems and lightweight materials, has opened up a world of possibilities for riders looking for comfort and versatility on longer rides. It's great to hear that your area has such a diverse selection available, catering to various riding styles and needs. Thanks for sharing your insights

    I can't stand E-bikes, that's why I like this video. An E-Bike defeats the purpose, as a senior I would rather ride one of these instead of and e-bike. I'm old and an senior, what can I say, lol. Thanks for the video.
