James, I just sent deposit for an 88. Below, a question was asked if the steel being worked was 1018. You answered that it was 1045 which I am left to assume is the die material. I would have guessed that a hot use material like H 13 would be used. Please set us straight on this important topic. It seems that a 1045 die would gain a “sweet spot” more rapidly.
I just saw this... The die material is H13. The steel being forged was 1045.

That is very impressive for an 88lbs ram weight especially with dies that wide. Was the steel 1018?
Actually it is ASTM 1045 CNC machined then heat treated at the Anyang factory.
James Johnson Sorry I meant the alloy of the workpiece. From my limited reading some alloys are harder to forge at a given temp than standard mild steel.
What's the power requirements? 3 Phase?
+forge52100 The hammer comes pre-wired with a 5 hp. 3 phase motor. Can run on a 30 amp breaker. If you do not have 3 phase, I offer a 5 hp. WEG, high torque, low RPM motor that is 220V single phase.
+jamesrjohn Thanks, that was information I needed. I don't have 3 phase, next to impossible to get out here. The 5 horse 220 should be plenty efficient for normal operation. I'm looking at several air hammers, but like the idea of a self contained better.
