However, it's no wonder such songs aren't appreciated by the majority of people who enjoy simple melodies which are usually the ones that put me to sleep due to their predictability. No wonder one of their most popular internationally is Bad Boy which is a really plain instrumental and boring to me with nothing unique - just a song I'd listen on the radio. But Birthday has everything. People just love to sh*t on old groups, especially if from SM. They used to play the card of how much they love RV so they don't show they're SM haters in disguise so was obvious this would happen with this cb. They just hate SM.

it is messy ngl my first listen was like NO. but as it goes it gets better, maybe bc them vocals are the ones making the song bearable to listen. with how rv music grows into different formula each releases, it def shows how it’s always the vocals that carries it. maybe that’s also why SM made rv do the most complicated concept in SM bc no one can make all these experimental songs bearable to listen. no wonder they lasted 7yrs in the top despite such hardship of carrying the experimental ground in kpop.
