I recently bought 50 acres with barbed-wire perimeter fence in need of a few repairs. I’ve been watching lots of videos on how to do that and this one is the best I’ve seen!!

I have used the two loop method for 36 years, and it has worked!!! But I will admit your way does LOOK a lot better!!

FINALLY... Someone who knows how to splice barbed wire. What we usually did was grab the center of the splice with a fencing tool to hold the wires, and put the wires to be twisted in the pipe-gripe "hole" of the pliers. Then, holding onto the pliers' handle, we twisted the pliers around the splice which created a much tighter splice because the fulcrum point of the wire was next to the splice. The pliers did all the "hard" wire twisting action resulting in a very tight wire wrap.

Daniel, I have been watching your videos for several years now. I recently purchased a couple of hundred acres of land in east Texas and have several wire breaks in my fences that require mending. Since I'm pretty much a city boy (except for many summers spent on my uncles ranch in west Texas) and I needed a primer on fixing fences. I thought of you and performed an internet search and found this video from four years ago. Thank you so much for sharing your life experiences with us. God bless.

Needed to splice a barbed wire fence today. I watched a few videos that just had people talking and not doing a thing. I have used the loot method for years and never really liked it. I'm heading out to the pasture right now and I know I'm going to enjoy splicing my barbed wire this way. Thank you for useful information that I can actually apply.

Thanks Daniel. I try not to use barb wire except in cases like you are using it. When I initially purchased my homestead, the entire property was fenced in with a three strand barbed wire fence. That was one of the first things I removed. I saved the barbed wire and gave it to a neighbor.

That splice is really nice and is better than the price of rice. Lololol
The loop can be made much smaller and much more appealing to the eye, it will hold for decades and decades just fine. There are several methods used in different parts of the world. I do like your splice though. Nice and clean look

Ive been fixing fence for 45 years.... the first slice works best hands down ! Moreover if there is a loose spot in the fence its easy to undo the splice and tighten it at the same splice. They dont come undone......nor kink and break the wire. Easy done with a " Golden Rod " fence tightener ! Your way is ok......but over I feel more time consuming....but it still works !
