Just ordered my pair! One thing about reebok is that they always run amazing sales on shoes. Just picked up a pair for 89.99 CAD. I've worn floatrides since generation 1 so very excited to try these!
You're right about Reebok always being relied upon to have good sales....all the time! I'd love to hear your thoughts when you get a few runs in. I liked the earlier Floatrides much better than the most recent (5) and this feels like the earlier versions to me.
Thank you for this review man. Been interested to see how others feel about this since I think Reebok really should have more cultural cachet in athletic spaces than it has in the last 10 years. Also, gonna give you a follow cause it’s not often that I find other size 13 wearers on UA-cam 😂
Thanks for the sub! Yeah, Reebok makes some really good shoes and their prices are excellent (especially when they’re on sale).
I always say I’m lucky to wear a size 13 because it’s the last size the companies make a lot of!
Excellent review, Matt. That looks like a shoe that I might enjoy. I ran in Reeboks in the mid 1980s, peak Miami Vice absolutely. They were good then. Your comment on step-in feel reminded me of how soft and well finished they were inside. That's the only time when I ran without socks, because they were more comfortable than socks. As with Puma, Reebok has done the "here today, gone tomorrow, back again next week" act a couple of times since with running shoes. At this point it seems to be a logo owned by Shaq and ABG that sometimes manifests as an actual company, and it's hard to have much confidence that they'll still be around to get another pair if I try them and like them, so I hesitate. Then again shoe models can all change so much from version to version that it's never a sure bet, and at the end of the day a given pair of shoes work for you or they don't.
It’s to many runners dismay that shoes don’t remain the same year over year. You’re right about them either working or they don’t. It really is that simple.
Because I get to test so many shoes and am generally quite positive, at least about some attributes, about most of them, I find the shoes that really “work” for me are the ones I gravitate to when I don’t have anything to test. This was one of those shoes when I received it several months ago! I put way more miles in it than I usually do!
Awesome review. Are you not having forefoot problems (midsole bottoming out) for longer runs? Love my Symmetros 2, but they firm up on slightly longer runs! Also love the 6mm drop. Looks like a rockered shoe.
No, I haven’t had any forefoot issues whatsoever. They’ve been a really solid shoe for me!
My GF loves her floatride 5. She has tried the Puma Deviate 2, Novablast 3, Ride 16...and she says the Reebok is her favourite. I only suggested it because she is a casual runner and just wanted a cheap shoe. Might be this for her bday...cool looking shoe.
If she loves the Floatride 5, she’s going to be head over heels with the Floatzig! Great b-day gift! 💝
I ran in many Rebooks but not actually in Zig line. I think FloatZig is a bit excessively overbuilt with that many overlays. If they lost some of those and lose some weight, I would give a consideration. I also had some concern about durability of rubber that stretches across the Zig elements especially in the forefoot, they get stretched and useful life could be lower. How many miles did you have on this pair?
That said, Floatride Energy line is one of the best budget running shoe in the market. They should keep that one. I think v4 was a step in the right direction. v5 added unnecessary stability elements which made the shoe heavier again.
You are right about some Rebook shoes run long. Floatride Energy (FE) 2 was close to TTS, maybe half size longer. FE3 was way too long. Symmetros 1 was also a bit long but not as long as FE3. I ran in Energy X and I think the length was TTS.
Of the older models that are no longer on Rebook site, I am still using a pair of Black Pantea as a casual shoe. The midsole is part PEBA foam! I actually never ran in this one. It was too good looking for me as a casual shoe in the office. If you google it, you see what I mean.
Similarly, I used Floatride RunFast London (PEBA midsole) and Floatride RunFast 1 (partially PEBA). It is a pity that they are gone without trace and Rebook is no longer doing any PEBA midsole shoes. They were a pioneer.
I have 105 miles in my pair and there is no sign of durability issues.
Yes, I agree completely about the overlays being excessive, however i justify it with it being the look they were going for and the fact that it rides so well. It's definitely more FRE4 than FRE5.
The Panthea look good and immediately gave me Energyy X vibes.

Similar experience as you with Reebok shoes, I miss the pantera and peba lines. Floatride Energy 4 was the pinnacle in my eye, perfect balance of weight vs cushioning. 5 added torsion stuff so never bothered with it, and the floatzig just looks excessive. Can get both and a steal of a price, so might give them a try.
One would think that with the combination of the Floatride Energy foam and zigzag cutouts, that the shoe would be lighter. Nonetheless, this is a shoe worth considering in one's rotation. Thanks, Matt.
Yeah, you’d think all those cutouts would cut weight. 🤔 Still, it doesn’t feel heavy underfoot!

I'm a big fan of Reebok running shoes but I find the look of this model quite hugly. That said it looks like that the Floatride Energy series will be discontinued (no Floatride Energy 6 and Symmetros 3), is that right? thank u

I don’t know for sure, but it looks like the Floatride series won’t continue.
Compared to novablast 4, which one do you recommend for daily use and some jogging?
I haven't actually run in the NB4, so I can't give a comparison, but the NB4 sure seems to be the more popular option!
Now that the Rebel V4 has been out awhile, how would you compare the two? Sorta tempted by this one.
The Rebel v4 is lighter and, because of this, will feel faster, however the Floatzig 1 will last a lot longer and be, overall, more durable. It’s a solid shoe, and if you can get it at a discount (like a lot of Reebok shoes) just makes this shoe even sweeter.

I loved the Floatride energy series, I think I'm not going to buy this...
If you loved the FRE series, I think you’ll like these even more.
Never understood what was the story with Reebok..they mostly make discount store shoes for kids..I did have a couple that I got for yard/garden/farm shoes and at a steep discount from a place clearsout old stock..I admit they were almost indestructible and I still have them but definitely not for running..
The past couple years Reebok has totally reinvented themselves in the running space. They’re worth a look!
Reebok had some great shoes. Essentially being an Adidas shoe with a Reebok logo. Floatride energy, floatride run fast pro, the run fast 2. All brilliant shoes. Adidas were reported to test ideas and tech via the Reebok branding instead of Adidas. Used as like a guinea pig. It was great and the shoes were cheap.
I think big shaq owns Reebok now and the running shoes have nose dived, producing stinking turds like the floatride zig.
The zig kinetica was a shoe from 2019 that Connor McGregor sold his soul to. An awful shoe and an absolute flop. And the floatride foam used to be good 5 years ago. Now it's 5 years behind. Adidas needs to buy Reebok back

I've got no problem with the Floatride foam when it's in a daily trainer. It performs ok, even if it doesn't stand out. I want Reebok to do something with a Peba foam and drop an inexpensive race-day option.
