I just finished replacing the dead struts with the $177 set from Amazon. They work perfectly and my wife thinks I'm a genius. Don't hate me for not telling her that I owe it all to you! A couple of thoughts - the electrical connectors were tough to get out in the bright sunlight. Maybe a mention of the lock clips on the receiver. The "bumpers" supplied are much easier to install before bolting the fittings to the car. AND - avoid a few moments of dread when it doesn't work because you forgot to check the on/off switch by the glove box. Thanks again!
I’m happy the video helped. Happy wife happy life 😏
Thank you very much! I ordered the aftermarket actuators from Amazon for just about 300 bucks and just installed them. They went on quick and everything works! I used your trick of a stick and a floor jack to hold up the liftgate. :) Thanks for the video my friend!

Replacing original electrical struts with after market electrical struts. Useful video. Thanks! FYI, my 2014 RAV4 requires the removal of the entire plastic panel on the door to access the wiring terminals.

Thank you for making this video. I'm about to go and change my electrical struts right now on my 2014 Highlander with the same after market items. Excellent.
Good luck!
EXCELENT VIDEO.BROTHER.
Thank God I stumbled on this video. My tail gate has been kicking my ass for the last two years. I know the dealership, correction, stealership would have hit me up for $1,500.00 plus minimum. I'm probably going with the OEM.
Thank You....
Happy to help 🫡
I like to thank you for the video. I had the same problem with my 2014 highlander. I'm able to follow your instructions to replace them in less than an hour. This saves me more than a thousand dollars. Really appreciate the help!
Did you go with the automatic replacement or manual?
@@trackpalmer can u tell us why u missed the electrical cylinders liftgate actuators? What was it about the manual that was bad? Were they too weak to keep the door open or did they fail after 2 year warranty expire? Thanks
I purchased the eBay provided in the link and they work perfectly!! Thank you so much! You saved us hundreds!
Glad I could help!
Thank you for your instruction, I think I can do it. I ordered the actuators at about the same price for both and before that I was about to make an appointment to the toyota service to have it repair, but I didn't and I am glad. That bill I sure will cost me at least 1k. 😊
Glad it worked out
Atleast!!!!
Super informative and well done video. I went with the aftermarket struts as the cost of OEM has risen to over $800 - EACH. I like Toyota but that's just wrong!
Glad it helped! 🫡
Thanks man! Your videos helped me alot.👍
Glad to help!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
My pleasure!
Excellent video, brother. I'm gonna use the Amazon link as well.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for creating this video. I found it easy to understand and very helpful. I own a 2015 Highlander Limited. So far at 144,000 miles the lift gate struts have not failed. If they do , I will go with the aftermarket strut due to lower cost and 2 year warranty. I doubt Toyota offers 2 year warranty for this part.
2014 Toyota Highlander is known for this problem. The cold makes the problem worse just as it does to car battery. My car is currently at 275k miles
@@trackpalmer I wonder if the issues being worse in cold weather are related to the lubricant on the gear in the actuator. In cold weather it spins out and is too thick to lubricate. When my liftgate sticks, it's very hard to push down or pull up. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.
@@matthewblack8552 if you have a heat gun you could heat them up and see if the problem still there. Think of the cold weather as a tool to show you when your actuators / struts are going bad. When they are ok they work in all situations
Thanks, your vdo helped me do it myself ♥️👍🏻
Nice work 🫡
I’m subscribed and have been for a while and I would use the aftermarket struts ( I like the power lift gate as well ). Is there any danger of water leaking in through that bracket?
No danger at all
After market struts. Thanks!
lol. You got the point 🫡
Thanks 🙏 I ordered the after market part and did the replacement as per your instructions but now the Highlander doesn’t start 😅
I don't see the correlation between the chart and the vehicle not starting. What year vehicle do you have?
How are these aftermarket actuators holding up? I'm at the point now where my factory ones are failing intermittently and I will need to decide on getting official parts from the local Stealership or try aftermarket. I'm glad those come with 2 year warranty. There are countless listings on eBay and they all look the same, produced in China.
They have been on now for a month with no issues. I use them throughout the day 7 days per week to do delivery. My Highlander is a work vehicle so I will use mine more than the average person. If they last me 2 years that would be equivalent to maybe 10 years or more for the average person. I'll see how long they last
Just installed mine. So far much quiter & smoother than my 7 year old OEM. I’ll update after 1 year of heavy use (pressure washer lawn mower luggage etc)
Stealership.... Truer words were never spoken!!!
@@trackpalmerHow are they holding up now? It looks like it's been a year.
Awesome video as usual thank you so much
Happy it helped 🫡
Nice, this is the first video that I have seen that has some light so I can see what you're doing. Thanks. Interested to know if they are still holding up?
They are still working and they are used heavily for deliveries
@@trackpalmer awesome, thank you.
Veryyy good vídeo fiend 👍👍thanks

Hey thanks! But, I was expecting you link after market or OEM is for RAV4 2014-2019?
You only showed for HIGHLANDER ELECTRIC SHOCKS STRUTS? Are they same with RAV4?
I personally checked each link and there are all for 2014 - 2019 Toyota Highlander. amzn.to/3W0xIav

Thank you for this video .
My pleasure
Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
I bought the eBay ones. Can’t them to consistently close the door. Works well after the first manual closing but after that doors stops two inches short of closing. Any idea?
Mine use to do this. The incident sensor to stop it is super sensitive. Using lubricants cat the joints helps
Does this need a motor change as well? I was just told the lift shocks and motors need to be replaced?
Yes
Per Toyota Site...." if the Power Tailgate function on your Toyota doesn't work, you may need a new liftgate pulldown Motor". what does that mean? thanks.
That’s the struts
Does it matter if the parts are OEM or not?
Also how to determine if the struts or liftgate module is the issue?
Please and thank you for your recommendation 🙏🙏
2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited
OEM will fit and work perfectly. They cost cost a lot 😟
@@trackpalmer Thank you
Hey Good Video, thank You. We have a 2021 Highlander which does NOT close all the way on one side. The left side is perfect and aligns with the body, the right side needs to close about an extra 1/8 inch. "IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT " for these electric struts, or is there an adjustment on the door "OR" frame? Thank You !!
Check the part number to see is they match. Open the lift gate then use your hands to push it open as far as possible. Try not to break anything 🫣. The lift gate ever been damaged before?
@@trackpalmer YES Thank You, that's a start, I will start doing that. And "NO" never been damaged , I was surprised it came like that from factory, only30 K miles so far. GOD Bless !!
Thank you for this video!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thx for this video
I have a 2017 RAV4 with power lift, do you think it’s just as simple to replace the struts on mine, as was your Highlander ?
Thx again
It's the same process
Very helpful...thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Replaced 2014 with 2 different sets. Strut does not stay on top bracket. Slips off ball joint and dents car. Thoughts?
There are mental clips that should hold the ball section in place. Check them and ensure they are seated properly when assembled
very nice .thank you
Thank you too
very useful video, by the way the highlander strut can i use with the fortuner 2018?
Unfortunately not
Thx for this vid
My pleasure 👍
ordered aftermarket from amazon
How did it work out?
Do you have to reset to to get the powerlifts to open and close automatically? If so how do you do that?
You reset it is to manually push close
Hello, do you have update on your struts after a year of usage?
They are still working with one slight issue. Once in a while it would not complete closing and I would have to tap it a little with hand for it to close. it hardly happens for me
After market
