I love how Whitney Houston took a number that was buried in an obscure 1950s low-budget film that few people had ever heard of and completely made it her own - its such a beautiful melody I'm actually surprised it didn't get wider play until she added it to the Cinderella soundtrack

Rodgers and Hammerstein, such an incredible pairing. Their music is so iconic even after about 80 years.

Yes, beautifully done, as is all her singing. This is as the song should be sung -- with beauty, sincerity, feeling, and finesse -- no added superfluous crap. The lovely message is key here.

This is amazing. I did not know that song was so old. More specifically, I forgot how old the music for Rogers and Hammerstein is, so if this was a discarded song, WHEN it was discarded kind of puts it in perspective.
Sometimes, one man’s trash is another man’s musical theme for their blockbuster Broadway musical.

I wouldn't call it "discarded", since it appeared in a Hollywood film. It's the film that was trash!

A nice bit of "staged" theater nostalgia -about a non-existent Rodgers and Hammerstein
show for Mary Martin. A few facts, though: Josh Logan (shown as director) was financially burned by R&H on the stage version of SOUTH PACIFIC -receiving NO
ROYALTIES for the script he co-wrote! They later offered him director and co-authorship
of KING AND I -but his bruised ego rightly turned it down. His later attempt to get them involved with David Merrick's show FANNY also led to bad blood in financial dealings. Thus, it's HIGHLY unlikely Logan would work with them again -as the film shows. Also,
for MOST of their collaboration, R&H worked separately -Oscar would sweat over
a lyric for weeks on end and then send it over to Rodgers, who usually composed
it in as as little as a few minutes, but never more than a day or two. Their collaboration
was strictly Business. Despite all those songs of love and brotherhood, there was
little in the way of friendship between. (See Logan's memoir JOSH and various
biographies of Rodgers for the above info confirmed).

Script he co wrote - Oscar Hammerstein was struggling with the naval dialogue needed

This video proves to you how none of the songs whatsoever that were included in the 1997 airing of "Cinderella" with Brandy and Whitney Houston were original! They are all older songs than those heard in "The Little Mermaid", "The Lion King", "Pocahontas", and stuff like that!

Proof was needed? It's a 'jukebox' musical.
