    I want to do this to my 3 small vintage oil lamps on my coffee table.
    They’re 3 very different styles but all clear, non-colored glass, so they make a nice set.
    Also, one has a glass shade, like the old 1800s parlor lamps, even though it’s under a foot tall. It was a novelty lamp from the 50s with worn red glass paint that I stripped off. I think the shade will look brilliant covered in small intricate macrame with fringe around the bottom.
    Thanks for the great idea!

    great tutorial, thank you! I just made this for a mason jar - it didn't come out perfect, but it was really easy & it looks really cute. To finish it off I did a gathering knot underneath each final square knot & brushed out the tassels underneath.

    I used thin knitting thread in a thin yarn with a metallic thread through it. Makes the perfect cover for my beauty brushes on my vanity. Used a different colour for second holder with dirty brushes.

    two lengths of rope twice the length of bottle... I'm guessing you meant 4x like the other cords plus the circumference of the bottle
    Update: I finished this. I used a 3mm cord for a quart mason jar 6.25" tall about 4" wide. I used the recommended number of cords BUT it's a lighter weight cord in the video (though I can't recall which was used). For me it looked pretty terrible in the end. Too crowded. Next day I unknotted some cord until I had only 28 on the jar and spaced it out. It looked very good.
    That's not a comment on video, just for anyone doing this pattern on a quart size mason jar with 3mm rope. it turns out excellent with fewer cords. If using the recommended cord obviously this won't be an issue. I just didn't have anything other than 3mm.

    I finally got around to making this today and it turned out so good!!! I made sure to add the extra cords so that it made 72 strands and it came out perfectly! Except for me not making the strands long enough for my jar. I think next time for the Mason jar I will do 4x longer just in case because the bulge on the jar and the shortness of it didn't make my measurements very good 🤦 but it did turn out really good I just did less rows of square knots.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  4 роки тому

      Ahhh yes the bigger the jar the longer the strings. I should have done this on a regular mason jar because that’s what everyone has laying around their house 🤦🏼‍♀️ I swear this baby scrambled my brain

      @@MeganBell it lasts a looooooong time too! 🤣 It still worked out great, even if my jar was frumpy.

    Hi Megan. During this pandemic, I decided to make a hammock and I'm pretty much doing yours! But I'm stuck already! After attaching the 1st dowel, you say to create 3 rows of alternating square knots. Do you mean alternate ROWS, or alternate each knot within a row. If you could clarify that would be great! It is time consuming and i want to have it done within a month or so!
    Thanks!
    Alison
