Gary too he is real shy that's why he stands in the background so much. Gary and Allen were best of friends and they used to practice together in Allen's bedroom every day. It has been said many times that they could switch their position on the guitar and no one could tell the difference. That's how much they grew in that room. I was there on the night of the crash I only live 5 miles from it and stood on that wet country road at 8 yrs old while my daddy talked to our friend and sheriff about helping but he said they had plenty so we went home. Hats off to Gary Rossington, as an original member , he has never forgotten about where and who "Lynyard Skynyard " came from. Ronnie, Gary, Allen, Ed, Leon, Artiamuiss , Billy. I really respect Gary Rossington for his respect for his friends, and bandmates. He has always given respect to all of them, and knew that without them , there would never have been "Lynyard Skynyard ", he has always given respect to all of their fans, always thanking them for all of their success. This man is known worldwide for his phenomenal guitar work, and never have I seen where he was conceited or obnoxious to anyone, alot of waylesser artist's sure have. And often do. They are. They were one of the absolute most talented rock bands of all time, of any genre. RVZ was a gritty poet, and the musicianship was absolutely fantastic across the board. In any other band, any one of their four guitarists (yes, four - Rossington, Collins, King early and Gaines later - and that's not counting Rickey Medlocke who was with them briefly and is outstanding as well) would have been a star, but they each had their role in part of the greater whole and together were stunning.
I to graduated in 77 but good times bad times was our class song with freebird losing by one vote. We were so privileged to live through the greatest period of music in history imo. Can you just imagine the houseband in the heavens when we join them?
No band has suffered hardship like this band has, One original member remains. I do hope their music lives on regardless of which new musicians play it.
When I saw them they played Freebird but did not sing it. Just a spotlight on Ronnie’s hat on the microphone. It was the 1990s. I loved the concert. The tribute to the lost band members was epic and very moving. Thank you!
Yeah Johnny would not sing it for a long time after he joined the band he felt that was his brother's song and he never wanted to step on Ronnie's toes but eventually the band convinced him to sing it
@Laverne Johnson When the cops have you, and they do this a LOT, they can pressure you into a guilty plea and sometimes you have no choice. If Pyle didn't plead guilty he was facing 25 years in prison. He denies the charges against him, always has but cops can do that and you never know, they might do something like that to you one day.
All y'all that claim to be true fans might want to take note, it is spelled LYNYRD SKYNYRD! The absolute best band to ever throw a note in the general direction of an audience. They were tight, they were right .... they were dynamite! Side note: This Lynard Skynard of which you speak is not known to me. Side note included just in case you missed my first sentence.
I love that Lynyrd Skynyrd,is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they definitely deserve it,RIP,all of the members that are sadly not there.May you all know that your impact of your music has really affected us, and we're glad to have your music 🙏 💙 in our lives🎉🎉
its nice that they let artimus take part in this. and also right that johnny was not on stage...but still sad that there is so much turmoil stemming from gary...
I remember when Sweet Home Alabama came out the radio station got so many requests to play it that the DJ played it continuously for several hours. It’s great to be from the south but I guess you could tell my southern accent in the way I was typing.
A lot of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band members AND their families DID THANK THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, UNASHAMEDLY, UNAPOLOGETICALLY. PRAISE THE LORD!😊wado,Ann Benson.
Can you imagine if all the stars who died in plane crashes were still with us? Buddy Holly, Otis Redding, the guys from Skynyrd, John Denver, Jim Croce, Stevie Ray Vaughan...
There have been so many come and go to soon no matter the actual demise but some times a few people come along and “click” and it’s like a trip on a rocket and it’s over much to soon.there have been many,God bless ‘em all.
Umm- Gary wasn't running anywhere from that crash- he had many broken bones, including his pelvis... I believe you're thinking of Artemis. Ronnie and Steve died instantly on impact, there was nothing anyone could do. If you're gonna hate someone, at least do it for real reasons.
Very emotional speeches ...You can tell how Billy Powell and Artymus Pyle were trying just deal with having to be around Teressa Gaines and Judy..Class act speeches from Arty and Ed King and ..God bless

@@anaparada7219 Allen struggled all the more after his wife Kathy's tragic death. Sad story & he paid for his bad decisions. Still one of the greatest guitar players & writers.
These speeches brought a tear to my eye. Especially Gary, Artemis, and Mr. Collins. Classy and heartfelt. Lynyrd Skynyrd will live forever in our hearts. ❤🙏
I see alot of people hating on Johnny... and while no one can replace Ronnie Van Zant, who better to be his replacement & frontmant of Lynard Skynard than his younger brother. Question: If RVZ had every intention of divorcing his wife / widow, Judy... 1) how in the world did she get the rights to the band's name & music (unless, of course, RVZ named her his beneficiary... which is strange if he intended to divorce her)?? 2) Why haven't the other band members or their families sued the ass off ofJudy or at least tried to get their share of what is rightfully theirs??
VredesStall I agree, Johnny, has kept the band going, He's been singing over 30 years, RONNY wanted to get Johnny in as he was having problems with vocal cords that was his plan,he would continue to write, Johnny would sing...unfortunately... tragedy...RIP....
A few yrs ago the local Harley dealership had an event and the entertainment was a cousin of Ronnie's (I think his name was Jimmy). They shamelessly tried to pass him off as Ronnie.
Unfortunately this happens a lot when celebrities die unexpectedly and without a will. The same thing happened with Dale Earnhardt when he passed. He started DEI with the intentions of his son Dale jr. Taking over the company one day. When he died tragically in 2001 his wife Teresa got everything and would not give Dale jr. Controlling interest in the business. Jr in turn left and Teresa ran DEI into the ground.. unfortunate but a reality
Sad to know that Gary Rossington and Artimus Pyle are the only classic members still alive. Edit: Since I know someone will bring it up Rickey Medlocke and Greg Walker were pre-crash members too and are still alive, but they were only in the band for about a year and only appear on some demos and outtakes, and never performed on a studio album before the crash hence they aren't considered "classic members", but if you wanna count them as pre-crash members then that's fine.
Pre-crash and original are two totally different things. Artimus was NOT an original. He replaced Bob Burns who was the original drummer. Ricky Medlock came on the scene several years AFTER they formed LS. The original members were: Van Zant, Rossington, Collins, Burns, Langston.
I think the band members were giving a slap in the face after the crash!!Ronnie was the main man but after all it wound not been possible without the other band members 🥺I hope things were made right w them at some point god bless all🙏🏻💙
First of all Johnny is great he is not what people say he is he loved Ronnie better he front the band then some poser and Gary couldnt have saved Ronnie or Steve or Cassie they died on impact plus he was badly injured he id not run and neither did Art he ran for help but who can blame him for being afraid it was horrific what happened Johnny is Family he should have been up there
I think maybe johnny stayed in the background and let ronnie's widow judy and ronnie's daughters take the lead. It really annoys and pisses me off what people say about the band and especially johnny. Nobody ever said he was trying to take his brothers place or to imitate ronnie. If you knew any of the history you would know johhny talked it over with his parents and made sure they and the remaining band members were all ok with the band getting back together. No band other than zz top has all their members for 40 plus years. Is any other band given as much grief as lynyrd skynyrd for having a different front man. Are all these other bands now "tribute" bands because the front man is no longer there. I think not. Why in hell cant people be grateful that after that horrific plane crash that the survivors and johnny wanted to continue playing the words penned by ronnie van zant. I think its the best gift all of them could give ronnie. Gary told johnny once when he wouldn't or couldn't sing freebird " ronnie was a song writer and a singer, he didnt write these songs to never be sung again" Be grateful that they give us that. Ok rant over
I've been a die hard. Skynyrd fan since the beginning and have a special love for ronnie .I believe in the afterlife so ronnie was there during this honor and very proud of his bandmates.
Johnny is not in this video. This is of the Original members or the family members of the original family member's that are no longer with us. Ronnie , Steve , Allen & Leon are represented by family member's. Gary , Billy ,Artimus , Bob & Ed are on stage. These are the 9 people that went into the RRHF as member's of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band! I believe if Ronnie was still alive. He would have taken the Honkett's in with him. Why didnt they go in with the band? anyone? May They All Rest In Peace
Ed King came in after the band got going and left before ✈️ 💥 that fateful day. But in that time he contributed a lot to Skynyrd. He brought a Fender Strat into a Gibson heavy crew and came up with that main lick to Sweet Home Alabama. Ed also wrote the riff to Saturday Night Special. And I’m sure there’s more, but those 2 are definitely Ed King riffs.
Johnny will never be lynyrd skynyrd. He came along after the name was made and recognized as the best southern rock band in the world. He got his fame off of others sweat and tears. How many songs was he involved in writing the words ond music from the first six albums? How many hours did he spend practicing in hell house trying to perfect the songs so a record lable would sign them to a record contract? How many dive clubs did he play in trying to earn enough cash to continue the dream?
Who really cares about the rock and roll hall of lame, All of the great singer's songwriters and bands will always be remembered in our hearts and minds. 🤪🇺🇲
Man they just had a killer chemistry! and it's just a dam shame what happened, no matter who is to blame it happened. and hopefully we will have answers one day because there is no answers among the living, I've played guitar most of my life and these guys inspired the hell out of me..stevie Ray would have quite a run for his money with Steve gains, and rip..stevey as well..hope there lickin and pickin together on the other side 🤠😎😎
RIP Mr. Bob Burns, a dear friend of mine. We miss you brother. What id give for another wild story of yours. I’ve also had the pleasure I’ve knowing Artimus for over 15 years now and he’s a great man as well. He is a little odd and there’s definitely a screw loose 😂, but a great man indeed. Sure wish I could have known the late members who are no longer with us and I wish Johnny would quit ruining his brothers legacy.

I to graduated in 77 but good times bad times was our class song with freebird losing by one vote. We were so privileged to live through the greatest period of music in history imo. Can you just imagine the houseband in the heavens when we join them?
Love Allan Collins father.
No band has suffered hardship like this band has, One original member remains. I do hope their music lives on regardless of which new musicians play it.
well deserved!!!!!! and as a fan I'd like to thank lynard skynard for all the great great great music it's all been a honor to hear them play on
Indeed the heavens are rocking tonight. What a houseband. Can't wait to join.
I wish Leon could have been there...R.I.P. LEON keep that low end grooving up there in the heavens!!!!!
good old bob burns.. nice to see him here!!
When I saw them they played Freebird but did not sing it. Just a spotlight on Ronnie’s hat on the microphone. It was the 1990s. I loved the concert. The tribute to the lost band members was epic and very moving. Thank you!
Wow, the hat must have been recovered from the plane crash. That sounds like a very sentimental moment. Wish I’d been at that concert.
Yeah Johnny would not sing it for a long time after he joined the band he felt that was his brother's song and he never wanted to step on Ronnie's toes but eventually the band convinced him to sing it
Artemus Pyle is a class act
Daniel Colón he is my favorite
He's also a sex offender.
@@williamthompson5504 Bullshit.
TOMinPDX he didn’t have the money to afford lawyers to defend him.
This was a long time coming but it was worth the wait. As for those we loss over the years, may they all RIP We love & miss ya so much!!!!
So late so late! :(
+Chirag Moily Yea, so true. But ya know what they say. Better late than never.
my heart just always carries this sadness
What a great band and well deserved. Artimus is one cool cat.
Long live the Skynyrd!!
ronnie vanzant was a true man.
remember Allen Collins was a huge part of this band
So many great songs .. just one after another on that Vinyl.
Thank you, Lynyrd Skynyrd, for what you gave us all!
How could 68 people not like this this is a great song, by a great band, and certainly the best jam ever at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame
Ed never fails to let everybody know which lick he wrote.
If i wrote SHA i know i wouldn't
One of the Greatest Licks in Rock he deserved the recognition rest in peace.
@@ThomasMilner Plus EK' contributed that AMAZING Slide Intro' to "Freebird" also!!....
@@ThomasMilner Also Supplied that KILLER/THROBBING Bass-Line on "Gimme Three Steps" Thomas"!!
@@ThomasMilner He got his recognition. He lived a good life off that one song.
Wow. Gary speech is like appreciated not just by Ronnie, but the big man above, that echoing heavens high.🤙
The reunion is complete
“ronnie van zant should be here” he sure should 🙏 love you RVZ forever
How can you not love them. ❤️❤️❤️🏆🏆🏆
I loved how they saved Artimus Pyle for the end. I’ve always really enjoyed his work with Skynard.
Well if this doesn’t tear you up you’re not A Lynyrd Skynyrd fan 😢
I love that Lynyrd Skynyrd,is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they definitely deserve it,RIP,all of the members that are sadly not there.May you all know that your impact of your music has really affected us, and we're glad to have your music 🙏 💙 in our lives🎉🎉
its nice that they let artimus take part in this. and also right that johnny was not on stage...but still sad that there is so much turmoil stemming from gary...
Billy actually began as a sessions key boardist but Ronnie was so impressed with his playing that he invited him to join the band.
no, Billy was one of their roadies.
I remember when Sweet Home Alabama came out the radio station got so many requests to play it that the DJ played it continuously for several hours. It’s great to be from the south but I guess you could tell my southern accent in the way I was typing.
RIP Bob Burns
A lot of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band members AND their families DID THANK THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, UNASHAMEDLY, UNAPOLOGETICALLY. PRAISE THE LORD!😊wado,Ann Benson.
Can you imagine if all the stars who died in plane crashes were still with us? Buddy Holly, Otis Redding, the guys from Skynyrd, John Denver, Jim Croce, Stevie Ray Vaughan...
Yeah or trade their wrecks for today's worthless POS artists like Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift etc.
Don’t forget Rickie Nelson.
On the country side, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and orhers.
There have been so many come and go to soon no matter the actual demise but some times a few people come along and “click” and it’s like a trip on a rocket and it’s over much to soon.there have been many,God bless ‘em all.
Well deserved award. What a great group of people & greatest band ever! God Bless
It's hard to believe that Ed, Billy, Bob, and Gary have since joined Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, Allen and Leon in the hereafter.
Umm- Gary wasn't running anywhere from that crash- he had many broken bones, including his pelvis... I believe you're thinking of Artemis. Ronnie and Steve died instantly on impact, there was nothing anyone could do. If you're gonna hate someone, at least do it for real reasons.
Very emotional speeches ...You can tell how Billy Powell and Artymus Pyle were trying just deal with having to be around Teressa Gaines and Judy..Class act speeches from Arty and Ed King and ..God bless
anna leonardi Besides Arty and the now late Ed King and Bob BURNS these folks and their families are GLORIFIED DRUGGIES LOOSERS DRUNKARDS ALAN COLLANS KILLED A WOMAN WAKE UP FOLKS GOD BLESS
Ana Parada and you, you are an angel that's never done anything wrong? Remember, when you point your finger at folks there is three pointing at you from the same hand.
@@anaparada7219 ,Besides Arty? That sorry bastard is a child molester, worse than any so called drug addict.
@@anaparada7219 Allen struggled all the more after his wife Kathy's tragic death. Sad story & he paid for his bad decisions. Still one of the greatest guitar players & writers.
@@davidh1249 He was CLEARED of that. The girl admitted she lied.
What a great bunch of people. So humble. Love y'all
These speeches brought a tear to my eye. Especially Gary, Artemis, and Mr. Collins. Classy and heartfelt. Lynyrd Skynyrd will live forever in our hearts. ❤🙏
I see alot of people hating on Johnny...
and while no one can replace Ronnie Van Zant,
who better to be his replacement & frontmant
of Lynard Skynard than his younger brother.
Question:
If RVZ had every intention of divorcing his wife / widow, Judy...
1) how in the world did she get the rights to the band's name & music
(unless, of course, RVZ named her his beneficiary...
which is strange if he intended to divorce her)??
2) Why haven't the other band members or their families
sued the ass off ofJudy or at least tried to get their share
of what is rightfully theirs??
VredesStall Ronnie died intestate or without a will, so his estate would pass to his wife and his heirs.
She is basically Ronnie at this point.
VredesStall if only Johnny could sing!!
I think the band members were giving a slap in the face after the crash!!Ronnie was the main man but after all it wound not been possible without the other band members 🥺I hope things were made right w them at some point god bless all🙏🏻💙
Best band to ever walk onto a stage.❤
Ed King , we love you , RIP
First of all Johnny is great he is not what people say he is he loved Ronnie better he front the band then some poser and Gary couldnt have saved Ronnie or Steve or Cassie they died on impact plus he was badly injured he id not run and neither did Art he ran for help but who can blame him for being afraid it was horrific what happened Johnny is Family he should have been up there
iDIOT !!!
Gary told johnny once when he wouldn't or couldn't sing freebird " ronnie was a song writer and a singer, he didnt write these songs to never be sung again"
Be grateful that they give us that.
Ok rant over
It's been 43 years I hope by now you know cassie didn't die on impact.. my god you live under a rock.
God bless Lynyrd Skynyrd!
I've been a die hard. Skynyrd fan since the beginning and have a special love for ronnie .I believe in the afterlife so ronnie was there during this honor and very proud of his bandmates.
Most underrated band ever!
Lynyrd Skynyrd R.I.P. To all who have died, Gary Rossington we all love and miss you.❤❤
My favourite band! Lynyrd forever!
R.I.P. Ed King.
wow at first i didn't think they were going to talk about the boys, now I'm happy.
With only two original members in the band some people say they’re just a tribut band to the original.
Because they are.
@@perbes100 I wish I would have had the opportunity to see Ronnie play live. I was born in 1983 so that sucks.
Artimus Pyle is an awesome guy.
johnny carried on this band long after the tragedy and should have been here, such a shame
DUMB ASS
Johnny will never be lynyrd skynyrd. He came along after the name was made and recognized as the best southern rock band in the world. He got his fame off of others sweat and tears. How many songs was he involved in writing the words ond music from the first six albums? How many hours did he spend practicing in hell house trying to perfect the songs so a record lable would sign them to a record contract? How many dive clubs did he play in trying to earn enough cash to continue the dream?
@@timhuggins7069I agree 100% I won't even listen to stuff after '77

Artimus is a class act. God bless them all.
Sure wish I could have known the late members who are no longer with us and I wish Johnny would quit ruining his brothers legacy.
there music has stood.the Test of Time ROCK ON.....brothers
Gary had the most respectful speech.
