Gary too he is real shy that's why he stands in the background so much. Gary and Allen were best of friends and they used to practice together in Allen's bedroom every day. It has been said many times that they could switch their position on the guitar and no one could tell the difference. That's how much they grew in that room. I was there on the night of the crash I only live 5 miles from it and stood on that wet country road at 8 yrs old while my daddy talked to our friend and sheriff about helping but he said they had plenty so we went home. Yeah Johnny would not sing it for a long time after he joined the band he felt that was his brother's song and he never wanted to step on Ronnie's toes but eventually the band convinced him to sing it
They are. They were one of the absolute most talented rock bands of all time, of any genre. RVZ was a gritty poet, and the musicianship was absolutely fantastic across the board. In any other band, any one of their four guitarists (yes, four - Rossington, Collins, King early and Gaines later - and that's not counting Rickey Medlocke who was with them briefly and is outstanding as well) would have been a star, but they each had their role in part of the greater whole and together were stunning.
No band has suffered hardship like this band has, One original member remains. I do hope their music lives on regardless of which new musicians play it.
@Laverne Johnson When the cops have you, and they do this a LOT, they can pressure you into a guilty plea and sometimes you have no choice. All y'all that claim to be true fans might want to take note, it is spelled LYNYRD SKYNYRD! The absolute best band to ever throw a note in the general direction of an audience. They were tight, they were right .... they were dynamite! Side note: This Lynard Skynard of which you speak is not known to me. Side note included just in case you missed my first sentence.
Ed King came in after the band got going and left before ✈️ 💥 that fateful day. But in that time he contributed a lot to Skynyrd. He brought a Fender Strat into a Gibson heavy crew and came up with that main lick to Sweet Home Alabama. Ed also wrote the riff to Saturday Night Special. And I’m sure there’s more, but those 2 are definitely Ed King riffs.
I think the band members were giving a slap in the face after the crash!!Ronnie was the main man but after all it wound not been possible without the other band members 🥺I hope things were made right w them at some point god bless all🙏🏻💙
Sad to know that Gary Rossington and Artimus Pyle are the only classic members still alive. Edit: Since I know someone will bring it up Rickey Medlocke and Greg Walker were pre-crash members too and are still alive, but they were only in the band for about a year and only appear on some demos and outtakes, and never performed on a studio album before the crash hence they aren't considered "classic members", but if you wanna count them as pre-crash members then that's fine.
Pre-crash and original are two totally different things. Artimus was NOT an original. He replaced Bob Burns who was the original drummer. Ricky Medlock came on the scene several years AFTER they formed LS. The original members were: Van Zant, Rossington, Collins, Burns, Langston.
I nearly cried when Allen's dad stood up and spoke on his son's behalf. He still looks so heartbroken.

Can you imagine if all the stars who died in plane crashes were still with us? Buddy Holly, Otis Redding, the guys from Skynyrd, John Denver, Jim Croce, Stevie Ray Vaughan...
Yeah or trade their wrecks for today's worthless POS artists like Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift etc.
Don’t forget Rickie Nelson.
On the country side, Jim Reeves, Patsy Cline and orhers.
There have been so many come and go to soon no matter the actual demise but some times a few people come along and “click” and it’s like a trip on a rocket and it’s over much to soon.there have been many,God bless ‘em all.
Most underrated band ever!
BEST BAND EVERY LOVE ME SOME SKYNRD
its nice that they let artimus take part in this. and also right that johnny was not on stage...but still sad that there is so much turmoil stemming from gary...
I've been a die hard. Skynyrd fan since the beginning and have a special love for ronnie .I believe in the afterlife so ronnie was there during this honor and very proud of his bandmates.
Love this band Rock on skynyrd
Ed King , we love you , RIP
A lot of the Lynyrd Skynyrd band members AND their families DID THANK THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, UNASHAMEDLY, UNAPOLOGETICALLY. PRAISE THE LORD!😊wado,Ann Benson.
Very emotional speeches ...You can tell how Billy Powell and Artymus Pyle were trying just deal with having to be around Teressa Gaines and Judy..Class act speeches from Arty and Ed King and ..God bless
anna leonardi Besides Arty and the now late Ed King and Bob BURNS these folks and their families are GLORIFIED DRUGGIES LOOSERS DRUNKARDS ALAN COLLANS KILLED A WOMAN WAKE UP FOLKS GOD BLESS
Ana Parada and you, you are an angel that's never done anything wrong? Remember, when you point your finger at folks there is three pointing at you from the same hand.
@@anaparada7219 ,Besides Arty? That sorry bastard is a child molester, worse than any so called drug addict.
@@anaparada7219 Allen struggled all the more after his wife Kathy's tragic death. Sad story & he paid for his bad decisions. Still one of the greatest guitar players & writers.
@@davidh1249 He was CLEARED of that. The girl admitted she lied.
r.i.p Ronnie van zant💯
R.I.P. Ed King.
It's hard to believe that Ed, Billy, Bob, and Gary have since joined Ronnie, Steve, Cassie, Allen and Leon in the hereafter.
My family lived across the street from Ronnie and jammed together. Duuuuuuuvvaaaalllll
So deserving of the induction

My favorite band!!!!
Artimus is a class act. God bless them all.
RVZ Forever!
wow at first i didn't think they were going to talk about the boys, now I'm happy.
Lynyrd Skynyrd R.I.P. To all who have died, Gary Rossington we all love and miss you.❤❤
Billy Powell was a badass on the piano, They Call me the Breeze.
Gary had the most respectful speech.
Great families... Love these people!
I think the band members were giving a slap in the face after the crash!!Ronnie was the main man but after all it wound not been possible without the other band members 🥺I hope things were made right w them at some point god bless all🙏🏻💙
Artimus Pyle is an awesome guy.
Peace and Love ☮️💟🎶🎵🎶🎭🥁🎹🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎻🎻🎻

These guys are the BEST!
Love you! Been a fan since 77
there music has stood.the Test of Time ROCK ON.....brothers
