libgit2: past, present, and future - Edward Thomson | GitMerge 2024

A decade and a half ago, libgit2 was born from the git project, providing a linkable git library that could be used from your application. Since then, it's been used in a variety of git hosting providers, general-purpose git clients, and custom tools that people build to solve custom problems. This talk discusses some of the background of the project, and some of the philosophical (and practical) differences between libgit2 and git itself. In addition, this talk explains the current state of libgit2, and our "north star" for where we want to take the project.
