That and the whole "to many people over the wall" rule I feel is pretty stupid. I know that it would give some teams an advantage, but if it's clear that someone hopped over before counting how many others where already out there to grab a tire, or something that fell, I don't see the problem. There is rewind, reply, slow-mo and many other things for a reason. And for the foot or hand=too many people? The first instinct if anyone was falling, just normally, or over that wall because they are to focused on their job, would be to put out your hand or leg if you were to stop you. And again, here's rewind and replay and everything else. There should be some leeway for these teams. They're stressed enough with doing their job on the team. And on the spot, don't really have time to worry about petty rules like that.
Xavier Corum shouldn’t be disqualified either. If anything a time penalty or a drive through..something other than that. I could be wrong on the punishment thing but nonetheless
Josh Davis only time your disqualified is if you have too many people over when you are on the 5 minute clock for repairs. Otherwise it’s either a pass through or tail end.

@@dhruveshpatel1109 NASCAR races used to be far more dangerous than they are now. While many of the regulations seem kinda weird, NASCAR has to take a hard line on a lot of the rules because not too long ago it was common for crew members to get hit by other cars. Even now they still get hit somewhat often, but there were a couple crewman deaths in the 1970s-90s and nascar doesn't want that to happen.
@@dhruveshpatel1109 I notice a severe lack of signaling for when the driver is good to go, unlike F1 where they have flags, lights, etc. Radio communication can be ineffective in pressure moments, and of course the drivers want to get out of the pits as soon as possible.

That was a big part of what started it all, because when they cracked down on moonshine they had to find another way to make money, so they raced cars.
Nascar is just a former shell of what it used to be, regulations, stupid rules, and its now a lot more restricted than it used to be. It wasn't a big deal. The problem is that nascar has become an asshat sport. I thank the race tracks in the world that promote good, old fashioned, racing. REAL racing.
Yeah he stayed in pit road so it shouldn't have been an issue. Pit road is dangerous and everyone who works there knows it. They knew what they were getting into. Plus there are no clear markings for where the crew are and aren't allowed to go.
2:04 crew member leaves the pit box to retrieve an air wrench and it's no big deal, 4:10 crew member leaves pit box to retrieve tire and it's a fireable offense with officials involved? Huh???
Also; team member checks for traffic and then walks out in pit lane, retrieves a tire and gets barked at by a Nascar official. In a later clip a Nascar official stand 2-3 feet into pit lane to watch the pit crew for violations, with his back against on coming traffic ...
Being an F1 guy, I look at these pitcrews and marvel at the amount of work they go through in one single stop. No wonder there's hiccups here and there. To imagine that there's just 6 guys and they have to change 4 tyres, refuel the car, maybe adjust something or buff out some race damage in that short amount of time. Pretty mind blowing. A few things would just not fly in F1, like leaving the pitlane with a fueltank stuck to the car and shaking it off or doing a full lap and bring it back home. Same with loose wheels. When a tyre is loose on an F1 car, it has to stop immediately and the race is done for that driver.
Mark Martin commenting after the race about the pit blunder "I love my pit crew, they do a good job most of the time, it's just one of those days; we'll get'em next time!"
This is the thing that makes or breaks your NASCAR race... pit stops. If the driver comes in at a wrong angle, if a crewman fumbles the jack, if a carrier loses a tire... that’s basically your race ended right there. I’m not really a NASCAR fan, but the one thing I’ve loved more than anything about it, is the pit stops, and how cool it is to see 6 men change 4 tires under pressure on a stock car in under 20 seconds
F1: "... How many guys to change a tyre?" Pitstop crew: "... Uh... 3? I think? One hold the older, one hold the newer, one to do the bolt..." F1: "Okay, you can have 12 people just for tyres" Pitstop: "... What? 12 to do one tyre?" F1: "No, three for one tyre. There's four tyres." "... Oh Okay, so 12 max." F1: "No no... You've got a guy for fuel, a guy on direction, and... well there's more than that." Pitstop: *thinks, Bejebus... that's a lot of people." NASCAR: "Six guys max, people." Pitstop Crew: "... What, one person will take ages to change a tyre!" NASCAR: "No, it takes two." Pitstop... "No, it takes three, and What that means we can only do one tyre at a time!" NASCAR: "No, Two people doing two tyres." Pitstop: "wait,... you do realise that we'll probably take way too long to do it like that, and two per tyre means the guy *not* holding the airgun will have to swap from holding the new tyre to the old one, and so it's not a case of if but *when* one of them's gonna loose hold of the tyre, and unlike F1, our pits don't always have barriers between pit lane and the normal track! NASCAR: "... Six people. Max." "And also, when we getting the gantry to dangle our air lines from? We've had cars drive over and break the air lines way too many times this seaosn, just for our team alone. NASCAR: "... uh.... Six People.?" "... can we atleast have a seventh, who will tell the driver when he can go, instead of guessing that a hand gesture to go was meant for him or not?" NASCAR: "SIX. PEOPLE." F1, see's the other Pitstop Crews struggling and getting hurt, takes note... looks at their pitstop crews: "Hm, One solely to give indication to the driver..." *notes the issues with carjacks in NASCAR, "Might need some to lift the car... maybe one where the driver can see, make it obvious they're not ready for..."
drivers are told to "go" or "hold" by radio from the spotter who is watching the stop and knows what the crew chief has ordered. why do you need one to hold the new and one to hold the old? you aren't holding both at the same time. (this right there is 5 guys, driver commands and 4 tire carriers) also nascar doesn't change 4 at one time so there goes another half the crew because they will get new tires as the come around the car. so don't need 4 extra guys (2 extra tire changers or 2 extra tire holders) that's a total of 9 people nascar eliminates from the pit stop. during a normal pit stop you can have a 7th guy for the driver comfort. (tear off windshield screen, ice, water, towel, etc.) during the damage vehicle policy you cant have 7 working on the car. if you could have whatever over the wall, higher funded teams would have like 15 people going over the wall.
The "too many man over the wall" thing is stupid. It makes it fair but frankly, stupid. Look, if a vehicle is damaged, it makes sense that its all hands on deck to ensure that the car gets to race again. Look at 2019 Germany or Austria. Hamilton was totally shafted with front wing damage and same as NASCAR, the crew have a limited number but during that incident, at least 15 people were rushing like mad around the pits just trying to fix his car and yet Hamilton gets no penalty as he had already lost precious time with the fumbling of his repairs. I mean, if the car is damaged and it requires more men to make it work then sure. Go ahead. Penalize them by taking off some time ie: 5sec penalty or some thing instead of outright disqualification of said event just because he had another guy over the wall, eager to fix the car so his driver can race. That rule os utter donkey dicks.
You said it better then I could. You can hear him at 9:15 saying something like youre telling me we're losing a shot at the championship because we had 1 too many guys? That is bs.
@@BillyHudson1 Bruh. That's not how it works. When a car breaks, it doesn't matter if you change the tires first of change anything else 1st. For that rule, it doesn't apply to the team's DQ as the rule that forced their DQ was that they had too many people over the wall which weirdly, was a "safety breach" (however that dumb rule came about...) when clearly, the numbers set for changing the tires won't be able to set the beaten panels straight so obviously more men was needed to fix the car. That's why I brought up Hamilton's case. His wing was totalled and nornally, only 11 men should be around the car during a pit stop but special rule can be applied if certain parts ie: front or rear wing needs to be changed where the pit chief can decide whether to pull in one or more men to assist in "repairing" but NASCAR outright DQing a team because "herp derp one more men came out to assist which means one more potential crew members for other drivers to mow down in a chaotic open pit" is just stupid.
I think what Nascar did is stupid but I disagree with allowing more people. Pit stop tests the crew in their ability to quickly do whatever needs to be done and adds another factor for any team out there. The more people the less interesting it the pit becomes
On Pit Entry... Driver: "Is this F1? I think it is" Pitstop at 5 seconds, Driver: "They should be done now ACCELERATE!" Crew: "FFS STOP THIS IS NOT F1 DUDE, we need a good ten seconds to do your tyres!" Driver: ... "what was that bump?"

The tires are the same but the pressure is different. The right front tire will almost always be the most pressurized one because thats the tire that takes the most force during left turns. It can be a difference of even a few PSI. you have a tire at like 29 and another at 33, if you put the 29 on the right side its just not gonna ba stable enough in the turns
7:25 - 7:47 is just hilarious chaos. Cars running into each other. Debris on the track. Serpentine to throw off the fuel can, nearly causing more wrecks behind him. Penalties galore. Just a complete shitshow and it's so god damn funny.
The biggest pit crew fail IMHO is one that we didn't get on tape: Atlanta Motor Speedway, 1992: In his first race in the cup series, one of Jeff Gordon's pit crew accidentally leaves a roll of duct tape on the roof of Gordon's car, which falls off onto the track, where Davey Allison hits it, crippling his car and ruining his shot at the title that year

Simple solution then, if your about to fall use your head (literally) and balance on your helmet until the car leaves so you won't be counted.
I get the foot part of it but wtf with the hand? Ppl don’t walk on their hands. It’s obvious if your hand touches the ground it not because your trying be an active part of the “over the wall” crew. Stupid.
He technically didn't touch the pit with any body parts, the tire he reached for was touching the pit meaning he didn't touch it himself the tire did
I still like the guy that ran out to get the tire, not the smartest choice sure, but that's the kind of guy that won't let you down
10:37 what if he was to fall off trying to reach a tire. is he not allowed to save himself by putting his hand there? Ngl I don’t like that if your hand touches the pit road too many ppl rule.
Yeah I'd say a hand shouldn't count, nobody is going to use their hands to walk around pit road, so its just a unnecessary and unreasonable rule
Yeah, I thought the same thing.
@@refraggedbean But, to be fair, supporting yourself with a hand can let you reach further out into the pit, which is theoretically an advantage.
I found fall over the railing, you are over the railing, and thus the rule is broken.

I'll tell you one thing is for certainNASCAR needs to work on their pit rules cuz some of those rules are like made up by a preschooler
Nah, in racing they will exploit the living shit out of the rules so they need to be very strict. If there is a rule that seems dumb it's probably to prevent teams from getting an unfair advantage or for safety.
@@JettXxB Safety? LOL. For a guy that only watches F1 these pit stop looks so freaking dangerous!!
Radio communication can be ineffective in pressure moments, and of course the drivers want to get out of the pits as soon as possible.
not to mention the crew is jumping over a wall into the pit area while a car is moving into position, half the crew runs in front of the car while its trying to stop, they run in front of the car again when its dropped off the jack and is ready to go and there is no pit lane speed limit. holy crap it just seems flat out dumb.

@@Fyodor48 Not specifically but I'm thinking there are vidoes out on the internet as you've said. It was pretty much known that Junior Johnson one of the pioneers of stock car racing was a mooonshiner. That was a big part of what started it all, because when they cracked down on moonshine they had to find another way to make money, so they raced cars.

Yeah the lack of awareness, and safety in Nascar is pretty insane. Especially the fuel tank debacle.

This is the thing that makes or breaks your NASCAR race... pit stops. F1: "... How many guys to change a tyre?"
Pitstop crew: "... Uh... 3? I think? One hold the older, one hold the newer, one to do the bolt..."
F1: "Okay, you can have 12 people just for tyres"
Pitstop: "... What? 12 to do one tyre?"
F1: "No, three for one tyre. There's four tyres."
"... Oh Okay, so 12 max."
F1: "No no... You've got a guy for fuel, a guy on direction, and... well there's more than that."
Pitstop: *thinks, Bejebus... that's a lot of people."
NASCAR: "Six guys max, people."
Pitstop Crew: "... What, one person will take ages to change a tyre!"
NASCAR: "No, it takes two."
Pitstop... "No, it takes three, and What that means we can only do one tyre at a time!"
NASCAR: "No, Two people doing two tyres."
Pitstop: "wait,... you do realise that we'll probably take way too long to do it like that, and two per tyre means the guy *not* holding the airgun will have to swap from holding the new tyre to the old one, and so it's not a case of if but *when* one of them's gonna loose hold of the tyre, and unlike F1, our pits don't always have barriers between pit lane and the normal track!
NASCAR: "... Six people. Max."
"And also, when we getting the gantry to dangle our air lines from? We've had cars drive over and break the air lines way too many times this seaosn, just for our team alone.
NASCAR: "... uh.... Six People.?"
"... can we atleast have a seventh, who will tell the driver when he can go, instead of guessing that a hand gesture to go was meant for him or not?"
NASCAR: "SIX. PEOPLE."
F1, see's the other Pitstop Crews struggling and getting hurt, takes note... looks at their pitstop crews: "Hm, One solely to give indication to the driver..." *notes the issues with carjacks in NASCAR, "Might need some to lift the car... maybe one where the driver can see, make it obvious they're not ready for..."
drivers are told to "go" or "hold" by radio from the spotter who is watching the stop and knows what the crew chief has ordered. why do you need one to hold the new and one to hold the old? you aren't holding both at the same time.
6:14 Just noticed the tire carrier and how close he came to getting his foot crushed by the fender. Yikes!

*P A T H E T I C*
That is bs.
So instead they can just wait until guys are finished with the tires... Not difficult.
The more people the less interesting it the pit becomes
but thats f1
On Pit Entry... Driver: "Is this F1? I think it is"
Pitstop at 5 seconds, Driver: "They should be done now ACCELERATE!"
Crew: "FFS STOP THIS IS NOT F1 DUDE, we need a good ten seconds to do your tyres!"
Driver: ... "what was that bump?"
Imagine being the one guy who caused your driver to be disqualified because you were over the wall.

I absolutely used too hate nascar when my dad watched it when I was a kid but now that I’m 23 I’m honestly starting to dig it
preferences and interests change with age. I used to hate it too, i always laughed at "they're making another left turn" and thought it was boring. but now that i'm older i see the skill involved and the more subtle aspects of it. Now i can watch and i don't feel like i wasted my time.
5:48 Wait am I hearing that correctly? R front and L front are switched? They make R and L specific tires? Wouldn’t that be a waste of time? I’m leaving of UNOH the 18th of august which is 10 days away, but I’m not learning about tires only that’s for sure. Someone care to explain for me? Thanks
NASCAR had the most ridiculous rules by far out of all motorsports
