My dad had bought the Fiat 1100 in 1956 . Inside on the glove box door was a plastic piece with the word Millicento written in a stylish script. The original car came with a Weber carburettor.
The gear shift was quite precise (unlike those in Ambassadors) and once one got the hang of it, one could do the shifts smoothly ( Faisal - you weren’t doing this well 😊) .
We’ve done many long trips with 5 people from Ranchi to Delhi and Durgapur to Delhi (with stopovers at Varanasi and Lucknow) in that car with luggage on a roof rack. It was quite reliable and the only hazard was the occasional punctures . Cruising at 50 mph (the speedo was in MPH and not KmPH) on the NH 2 / Grand Trunk Road was quite comfortable.
The owner definitely loves his car...
I had owned a 1992 Premier Padmini till I was compelled to sell it in 2004 due to lack of additional parking space in my building, as I simply refused to park it on the open road. Everything in the car till its last day was as it came from the showroom and through the 12 years of ownership, I maintained it in brand new condition. Even parts like the silencer box I used to hunt around and replace with the original OEM PAL box by spending almost double than the local substitutes that were available in the market. Of all the cars that I have owned, no other car gave me the satisfaction of ownership more than maintaining that Padmini in mint condition, as I used to personally spend hours every weekends in look after it, including tuning it up. Till this day I regret selling the car on which I had spent so much of time, money and energy to maintain it literally in showroom condition, but I guess at some point of time we all have to move on!! Sorry if I've blabbered too much, but this video opened my floodgate of fond memories of this car!!

That sound man!!! Old childhood memories came back all of a sudden. When we used to go to Mumbai to roam around gurgaon chawpaty, gateway of India and all. That sound of this car is one of the fond memories of those time while traveling in taxi in the city. ❣️❣️

Launch at 14:09. Brought back old memories of my old Premier Padmini 1983 (model).
Then sound it makes when in first gear is so nostalgic throws me back almost 10 years in past, when I used to go to marine drive in taxi with my dad. ❤️
We had this Fiat Padmini, it was my dad's first car and I loved her
The Padmini had a monocoque chassis and it was equipped with AntiRoll bars
Over the Ambassador's Body on frame platform hence the good handling with little Body roll . The old padmini you drove in the earlier vlogs sounded original, smooth, soothing ,mechanical and Raw full of emotions . This one with mikuni carburettor and custom exhaust sounded too gruff . Maybe you found it a little difficult to get used to the clutch and steering mounted gearshifter .Regardless it was fun to watch padmini in action with those Retro mods.🙌😅Reminded me of my childhood for a change 🤩😍😇😌❤. Our Fiat (Premier padmini) was from 1986. Our family's First car back in the day .
Fun fact : Our Building/Society was made by Premier employees back in early 70s and many workers and employees from Premier lived there , they still do even today.

We had the Padmini S1 but we had the same sofa type seat and steering mounted gear. Enjoyed driving that car. It had an Panasonic AC too with a separate key for the compressor 😀

I got my cream colored Premier Padmini in 1989.
I drove it for 14 years till I got my Ford Ikon in 2003. Really a family car and actually it was called Executive's car.
What a wonderful front view for the driver ! He can view the left side headlight !!

Our first family car was a Premier Padmini.
I learnt driving when my parents were away in Chennai and I was alone with my grandma . I was 12.5 and somehow managed to remember how my dad drove the Padmini with hand gear attached to the steering. Gear shifting was quite an effort and had to use two hands between certain gears :)
Till date that self learning had kept me in good stead. Driving my Merc C- Class / skoda rapid after decades and not a single accident till date. Training on the Padmini made me the driver I am today ! :)

Ahh the fiat . I learnt driving on the predecessor of the Padmini, 1960s fiat. What a beautiful engine note and slick gearbox. A gem of a car
The gearbox has synchromesh from the 2'nd gear only, the first gear does not have synchromesh. You cannot shift to 1'st from any other gear. 1'st gear can be applied only when the car is stationary.

Nothing like this classic fiat. Love the vintage design and awesome sound of the engine on standard exhaust pipe. The handgear format is much better than floor gear system.

Best thing about this car was the engine sound. Used to enjoy it as kid and still sounds fab.
Dad’s 2nd car was a 1971 PP that he bought 2nd hand in 1979…we had it till 1988 when PP brought out economy model to reduce the price to compete with Maruti..that’s was dad’s 3rd purchase and his first new car (bother before that were 2nd hand)… this finally got sold when Dad bought Daewoo Matiz ….All my childhood memories are in PP

Actually all these cars are brought back to life at the garage shown at 10:24.
I have many a times talked with the mechanics at garage and it really feels nice to see them doing "Pran Pratishtha" in these beauties.
It wasn't a car it was a feeling which everyone had before 2001 and thanks Faisal for geting us reminded of this feeling

The first car that my father bought was a 2nd hand Fiat Padmini Premier with a petrol engine in 99'. it was navy blue in color with a glittery finish. Had the car till 04'. the engine did give a lot of problems in winter. You could get a tan in summer due to exposure to direct sunlight if you sat in the rear seat. It also had the hand gear system. Mixed memories.

Don't be biased, u didn't know how to change to the third gear saying it's old school. U have to select before changing also, slow the vehicle to almost standstill and change to first gear 😧😧😧. Ua not fit to handle old cars🤔🤔🤔👍🏻
