    Really a simple safe nice project.
    I would personally find a case, protect the capacitors from accidental shortcuts and replace the terminals with longer good quality wires.
    And i would builda pedal for it to activate the circuit only when you are in the correct position. Like this you have to guess that the welding spot will be the right one at the moment of the shortcut.
    With a pedal - ab hand made one - you can press it only when you're ready.
    To metal bars with a wood frame and a spring can do the job.
    Anyway the idea is amazing.

    • @AnthonyHigham6414001080
      @AnthonyHigham6414001080 6 років тому +1

      Any 12 volt car bulb will do the job. An 8 watt side light will do. It is just acting as an in series resistor and the higher the wattage the faster the recharge time for the capacitors. As this will only be of the order of a few seconds it really doesn't matter.

    This is a good simple design, but what is the advantage over going directly to the battery terminals (skipping the capacitors)?

    • @MrElectron
      @MrElectron  7 років тому +15

      Time.
      Spot welding needs really high current for about a sec or even less than that.Capacitors cut-off automatically after dissipating large current while going though a Shot circuit while direct battery connection not only reduced battery life but also damages the welding strip.Also you are the one who has to perform the disconnection.High current for longer time results in blackening of the strips....If you can some how control the Short circuit current discharge time,i am sure that direct batteries should work the same..

      Use a 12v solenoid relay switch instead of capacitors and fashion the terminals so that you can hold them with one hand. The solenoid will do your connecting and disconnecting for you, you just have to press a momentary switch to set the solenoid off. Boom! You're welded!

    Very nice! Need this for the same job! On your site you say: 'super capacitor spot welds are not as great as the method that i am teaching you now', but why? Don't they release the current fast enough?
    Why do you say 3,30,000 uF instead of the world standard 330.000 uF? Is that normal in India?

    • @iceberg789
      @iceberg789 7 років тому +1

      yah indian numerals go like this -> 1thousand (1k), 1 lac (100k), 1crore (10m). then it repeats, hundred crore, thousand crore, lac crore, crore crore (1,00,00,000,00,00,000).
      but electrical components are normally not referred this way. only everything else is referred.

    Hi Mr Electron. Regarding the above arrangement, I have a 330,000 microfarad capacitor, but unlike yours mine is rated at 10 volts. Will this slightly lower voltage make it insufficient to spot weld 0.15mm pure nickel strips to a battery? Also, please tell me what thickness of nickel alloy strip you use? Thanks

    • @MrElectron

      Nathanael Corker 10V is less.. You should use thin nickel strips for these

    Follow the wire from your non-copper electrode to the first capacitor. Then follow it across to the next capacitor. It appears to touch the second pole of the first capacitor: why is there not a short circuit there?? THe wire does not appear insulated. Look late in the video, around 13 minutes... you can see the short clearly. Current should be flowing directly across there... should be lighting the bulb constantly?

    • @MrElectron
      @MrElectron  7 років тому

      Ruud de Graaf - Thanks 🙂. Supercaps are less efficient coz they produce high current which if not disconnected in time damages the nickel strip without even creating the welds.
      i said "3 lakh 30 thousand" which is indeed the Indian way & now i know that i should have used "three hundred & thirty thousand".

    • @ruuddegraaf886

    • @MrElectron
      @MrElectron  7 років тому

      Sure you can but i would suggest the you charge the capacitors only to 10V max to compensate the high capacitance.I am charging mine upto 12.5V.Yours should also do the job. All the best.

    • @ktgohdt125
      @ktgohdt125 7 років тому +2

      i am using a 12v dc batt like yours and that means if the voltage is constant at 12v5, the higher the capacitance, the higher the discharge amperage right? so it will melt the nickel strips unless i use the lower voltage like you suggested. many thanks for your fast reply...

    • @MrElectron
      @MrElectron  7 років тому

      energy level is= 0.5 x C.(V)^2 .Yes try some low voltage source.Try using 2 mobile chargers in series.They are each rated 5.1V ,so in series they make up 10.2V which should do the job.

    Ola Pessoal!!! Bem na minha opinião diversos compradores desse aparelho no qual eu estou incluso, foram lesados, e não culpo os vendedores, vejo isso como uma falha na fabricação do aparelho e isto acontece devido a um super aquecimento no mesmo foi projetado com pouca área de ventilação,, acredito que o fabricante deveria oferecer um reparo um Recall oferecendo o conserto e talvez até sugerir aos compradores para colocar uma ventilação melhor com a instalação de um cooler, pois estes aparelhos estão queimando com pouco tempo de uso e muitos vídeos que vi falam da ventilação como problema o meu veio a queimar com 3 meses sem uso continuo

      Ernie Bolado Sure but try charging the capacitors only upto 11V because you have to compensate for the increased capacitance. All the best.

    "Lakh" is only used in India, not in other parts of the world, and also the notation "3,30,000" is only meaningful to Indian people, meaningless for people in other countries. It should be 330,000.

    Gentlemen: Please don't hate me. I enjoyed the video immensely and will put this procedure to use. But a SERIOUS CAUTION is in order. Please correct me if I am wrong. The 12.5 volts DC and 3 capacitors at 330000uF provide more than enough power (amperage) to electrocute you if the skin of both hands or fingers touch the bare electrodes or conductors at the same time. 5 mAmps across your heart is well enough to kill you. This circuit produces much more than 5mA. Under lack of caution or any inattention this circuit can easily kill you. I believe that the only reason this did not seriously injure or electrocute the instructor is that he never touched the bare electrodes or both conductors at the same time. He maintained contact with the insulation on the copper conductor at all times. Much caution must be used with this circuit to prevent death or serious injury. Make sure that both electrodes are well insulated and absolutely never touch both bare electrodes or bare conductors at the same time without proper insulation. It would not be excessive to wear non-conductive gloves while working with this circuit. Large capacitors are always dangerous. One must always use great CAUTION when working with high capacitance. This is a very dangerous circuit. (Electronics Technician since 1965.)

    • @MrElectron
      @MrElectron  7 років тому +5

      AWK not dangerous at all since the voltage is only 12.5 volts.

      "Current kills not voltage"

    • @cruiser97eric1
      @cruiser97eric1 7 років тому +2

      The 12.5V divided by the skin resistance determines how much current will flow. The capacitors being large makes no difference as far as how much current will flow through the skin.

    • @melgross
      @melgross 6 років тому

      Well, that’s true, but if your hands are moist because it’s hot, and you’re sweating, the salt water you sweat out is very conductive.

    • @cruiser97eric1
      @cruiser97eric1 6 років тому +1

      You won't be electrocuted by 12.5VDC even if your hands are covered in sweat. If you stick your tongue across it you will feel some uncomfortable tingling, but that is it.

  • @Funibert-Fox

    Indian technology. The uploader should charge them to the maximum and short it out with bare hands. For all others: Don't build this, it's more like a killing machine.
