Loved Kevin Johnson heaps. His wonderful voice and the messages in his songs.
Kevin is the only singer who can bring this song to life, after all it is about his life, and he is a great artist.
So many interpretations but Kevin Johnson's is still the best.
you probably dont give a damn but does any of you know a method to log back into an instagram account..?
I somehow forgot my login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me
He’ll always be a star!! ❤
I've heard a lot of versions of this song but Kevin's version is by far the best.
That man means a lot to a lot of people that never met him.
Great Australian song. Nice to see it covered in this series.
Classic song! ... He's from Rockhampton Queensland, Same as me
Super mooi nummer en een heel mooi verhaal Kevin. 👌👍❤️
Versie van the Cats is zeker gelijkwaardig aan het origineel.
Mr. Kevin Johnson is a very talented man. We say about people like him that God kissed him.
Great song then, great song now and one which has stood the test of time. I feel we can all associate with some bit of this if we really think about the lyrics.....
A sing which touches the heart
I really love the story in this song and the questions raised. Should you quit? Should you keep going? In 1984, some nine years on from this track being a UK hit, I was on holiday with two friends when we sank a few pints in a smugglers inn at Rye next the Sea. The lone singer/guitarist in the corner was nothing special until he played 'rock n roll I gave you the best years of my life. He nailed it.
Wow - being covered several times over - every songwriter's wet dream!
❤ Top Song.
And a top songwriter and performer - the great (under-rated) Kevin Johnston.
This was his best known song but he has written and performed many more.
I can relate :( Great montage work of the various versions from different countries!!
The original remains the best. Who can feel a personal song like this better than the person who wrote it?
Good to see that Kevin can finally buy a good guitar. Nice song.
Got my summer coat dry cleaned the other day, gave me back your transcript of the fury’s ‘
green fields of france’
Thought you might like this one from my youth!!
I've never of this song. I just recognised the Sydney Harbour Bridge and clicked the video.
Canadian Terry Jacks took this song to new heights. 😎
❤
"Aussie scene, always a little behind" - might be valid for mainstream MOR .. but sure didn't go for the Saints who were the first punk band to issue a 7" outside the USA - and a classic at that "Stranded"
and with Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon and Nick Cave, delivered a godsend to the early 80s Indy scene, proved Australia could be right with it when it mattered.
Wonder if these days, Tex Perkins would cover Kevin :)
this used to be my favourite music until it wore out
thought i was gonna hear about gary glitter ha
This is the great version. Not Mac Davis's, with the cheap, cliched change of the end lyrics to "I'm just a simple country boy...."
Had a car before a guitar
Failure outnumbers success, I guess.
Can't beat new Zealands Craig scotts version from the 1970s
Wow what a trite mediocre song
As long as there’s a hole at the back of my arse, you will never in your lifetime ,write a song like this !
Loved this song a great Australian artist
