I really like Ayaka's hard working never quit attitude. She knows she's the least skilled member at this point but she keeps giving it her all and absorbing everything like a sponge and improving each performance. A perfect song choice for her. Nina sounded good imho but she mostly showed things she had already proven strong in. JYP is stressing growth this time around. Riku and Maya's performance are among my favorites of the show.
I think the Nina comments made a lot of sense, personally. She came into the competition with one existing A+ skill that everyone's in awe of, but seems to have a tendency to just completely rely on it every time, despite the challenge here being growth.
Good call saving your judgment before the final evaluation, as it's still anybody's game - a good performer now may still end up faltering, a weak one might bloom later on. Make a prediction after seeing their journey, but before they arrive at their destination. Also, take note of these performances, as the good ones will form part of a girl's "resume" wherever she may end up. 😉
While I personally loved Nina's performance, I defer to JYP, who has the knowledge and experience to guide Nina correctly. If Nina wasn't worth it, he wouldn't offer her such advice. He did the same thing with others like Rima and the copied gestures while rapping. As a judge and mentor, he gave Nina the advice she needed to raise her to a higher level.
With Ayaka, her never say die attitude and I'm going to give it everything I got and see what the results are, just make you want to root for her. This is the reason she has improved as much as she has, even though there is a way to go, JYP see the improvement and lets her know she is headed in the right direction. Nina, didn't put the study into her song like Miihi did, but gave a good performance with her powerful vocals, but that isn't what JYP was looking for. JYP comment weren't to make her feel bad, but to make her better and she realized that, even being 14 years old, which is good. Riku just blew me away with her performance, never saw that coming from her, she took the song and made it her own and did a great job. Yuna has a problem with nerves, you listen to her when she is in lessons and she sounded wonderful, but when it came to getting on the big stage and performing it wasn't there. This is part of what this is for to see if you can perform on the big stage, because there are many who have the talent, but can't do it in front of other people. Their nerves take over and they clam up, which it what happens with Yuna, in my opinion. Then there was Maya, this is one of my favorites from her, she just move with such grace and her vocals were very good. She has that ability to pull you in and not let go until she is done, and this was one of those occasions. I do encourage you to go watch the full performances as these are so abbreviated you don't get to see some of the greatness of what these girls are doing.
