This is the review I was waiting for before picking up these items myself. Thanks Allen for putting in the long hours, much appreciated. I hope Deity knows that I’ll be purchasing their products specifically because of your reviews.
I've been searching for reviews on the Deity Slate for a few months now and this is the one I've been looking forward to all along. Just discovered your channel today Allen and I am a big fan already! Your drop test was what I've been wondering about all along and that was very nerve-wracking to watch but something I've been wondering about. I'm about to pick one up today (on sale) and this review has made me feel a lot better about my investment. Thank you Allen!
"Don't be gentle, it's a rental. If you don't want it dented, don't rent it." How cool is that~~~~ Yet, it's funny to see Bandrew being a bit hesitant when dropping the slate on his planet. I thought he should have done it the way he throws all those boxes in his studio.
This is awesome. Even i don't have any Deity piece of equipment yet cause is hard to find here in Spain, i love their way of doing things. I think they have what it takes to reinvent the tools we use everyday in our craft.
I have a bunch of those boxes, love em a lot! Sold all my other products and kept the TC-1. Just wish they were 20% smaller, lol. You're right about the cable in the 3-pack kit. Had to purchase multiple separate cables after the fact...
Sync distances? As for continuous sync... I'm thinking that I tested it but don't recall the results. If it didn't work, I would have said something. But then, if I tested it, I would have mentioned it. Maybe it was the BP-TRX timecode I tested with continuous sync... I'm sorry, I don't recall 100%. I'd be very surprised if a transmitter plugged into the slate wouldn't read proper numbers.
Deity said ~30ft distance (not sure if you got me right ;-) from unit to unit (no smartphone involved) - we want to send different timecodes realtime to the units - so preferring Lockits at the moment - and they seem to have a larger range than the Deitys. Though very compromising...
Got hired to do sound on a short film with a union crew (first time! moving on up). Needed to invest in a digital slate and went with a used Denecke TS-C over the Deity
I want to hate on this system as much as the next mixer, lol. Honestly though it seems like a great product with some innovative features. Technically speaking, it functions as well as any other TC system. You've proven that. The price point is great. There will be a lot of used slates and boxes on the market next year as a result of this release. My 2 main concerns are 1) the app is a third party app. Why isn't it developed internally and branded by Deity? 2) I feel like over time, the bottom battery latches will fail and the batteries will drop out or make intermittent contact as in your video. I guess phantom concern #3 is the longevity of Deity and hence support. Thanks for the in-depth review.
I'm wondering about the app too. The fact of the matter is, even if Deity made their own app, they could discontinue it anytime if it's too difficult to maintain. The battery door was because I didn't close it properly. I saw that when I reviewed the footage. I doubt Deity is going anywhere anytime soon.
The folks that developed our app are an internal/external team. They make another app that supports multiple brands of lights but the dev team are under our parent company umbrella. What this means is if the Sidus team approaches or gets approached by another audio brand that wants to use Sidus Audio as their ecosystem too, they could.
There's nothing to hate about these products, they are well made and built full of features that made you think why do you spend much more on other brands, build quality aside. I want to see how the other brands respond
I’m all thumbs today.
ButterfingerDrew...
Butterfingercastage
My mistake.
Wow, it got Allen's torture test seal of approval, which is saying a lot ! Bandrews Planet looks, well, yeah.
It goes to show why he stays inside all the time though.

Thank dude. They may see this comment and if they do, I'm sure they'll smile and nod.
@@SoundSpeeds *giving two thumbs up while smiling and nodding*
There you go. :-)
I have been waiting for this review for so long... glad that it finally came out. Great video as usual Allen!!
Sure thing! I hope it's everything you wanted it to be.

That's a really good point

I really like what they did with their time code products. They turned out really polished.
Very thorough review and realistic drop tests. Why wouldn't you assign the slate as the master?
You could but why not use a sync box that you can keep in your pocket as a master?
The slate dropping hurt my soul lol
Yeah, sorry. Had to be done though.

Hopefully Deity is taking notes and might release an accessories kit for sale with a bunch of cables for the TC-1s
I can buy it now thanks great video
Sure thing. Thanks for watching.
I found the TC-1 kit going for 380USD on ebay
👍
55:05 They have the "Turn everything off" in the app now.
That's good
Hi, did you test sync distances? Any continous Jam possible for Musicvideo Playback and alike?
Nice "heavy" review ;-)

I see what you're saying and yeah, you're better off using something else if you need to send timecode to different units without an app.
Wonderful! Thank you

@@DeityMicrophones Copy that thanks for the clarification.

That's not likely to happen in this thread. ;-)
Dang, that's a pretty slate.
And it works great too.
Does anyone know if tentacle e sync works with the tc sl1?
Per Andrew at Deity "It should".
@@SoundSpeeds Thanks! I love how comprehensive your review was!
Sure thing. Thanks for watching.
Not that keen on Diety after getting burned on the connect series, does look good though
I understand. The Connect's downfall was the 2.4GHz frequency range. These are truly pro timecode devices from top to bottom.
@@SoundSpeeds love the leds , if I didn’t have an ambient tc I’d buy one for sure
The Ambient TC products are solid
Looks complicated. Tentacles are easier to set.
It's actually quite easy but ye, Tentacles are easy once set up.
