Yeah but it happened awhile ago and the video he criticized was certainly worthy of it, I just find that his chat has got no mercy sometimes and he panders to that toxicity every so often. It’s not a big deal but I’ve certainly been self conscious about making content when I don’t have tons and tons of vehicles and mostly play a niche game mode since that happened. During one of his streams he eluded that he is some kind of consultant for businesses in his day job (assuming he works from home too) His community went pretty apeshit to specific CCs for a while too. He had a video where he went over a bunch of fellow CCs videos and tried covering for Gaijins behavior. Including mine which he nitpicked my weakest point in the video due to a bad phrasing on my part. Which leads to people writing off the whole video entirely. It made discourse even worse. There is a reason why he is regarded as a shill by many. And many like me said that eventually it would blow up in Gaijins face and it did over the early 2023 summer. Gaijins secretive attitude & the attitude of many volunteer representatives have led this game to get the hate it, in some part deserves

Been an ex-WoT player since 2016. Played WT when it first came out but stopped because air is kinda eh. When Ground Forces came out, I stuck with it for a while, try out other nations I couldn't grind in WoT like Germany and Japan. In the end, I ended up back with France recently as my main. I recently came back to War Thunder because I was feeling the tank itch that the clearly P2W WoT stopped scratching long ago. Using WoT as my goal, I attempt to at least unlock the Tier 10 tank equivalent (Maus, AMX 50B, post-WW2 tank) that I never could unlock normally. I gotta say, as long as your tank BR is 7.7 or below, you've pretty much unlocked all the unique and fun tanks. Anything afterwards just plays and look too similarly, which exponentially feels a disappointment. Tl;dr Just grind up to BR7.7. Anything afterwards start to get stale and samey. And p2w. I am looking at you Obj 279. Fucking laser rangefinder.
Love how the video puts into perspective time spent. “Time is money” as the saying goes. Another thing to put into perspective for newer players… you wonder why some people like me say the things we do about the game? We’ve been here for 10 years already and are telling you it’s gonna hit you someday too. Not to mention that WTs CORE gameplay hasn’t changed fundamentally in years. After tanks were added, Air and Ground settled into what they are now: TDM, Spawn Rush Kill All, and of course naval being a longer running TDM like air. The more people actually advocate for a better quality game, the less the grind will ruin you.
I’ve been saying it for 10 years (and I know you have too) people keep grinding and progressing for progression’s sake rather than trying to just *play* the game. Stuck on the idea of getting the shiny without thinking about how much fun they might have actually playing it. Beats my soul in the dick to see how far we (haven’t) come in an entire decade and how the entire time the new players base rushing in premiums and attackers only ever seem to say “X games till I get Y vehicle, I can’t stand this game”. I’ve had players get mad at me when I told them not to try to speed run the grind and just focus on enjoying the game. Between this and the flood of CCs suddenly calling for a change to RB’s gameplay, I’m feeling at least a little validated for the comments I made during the last 9/10 years I’ve spent playing.
War Thunder is all about perspective. The grind, the matches, the balance, the modes... everything comes down to how you approach the game and understanding your own limitations as well as those of WT. I cannot understand the rageaholics and people who routinely spout that they hate the game but they're just as invested as I am. For the grind- you have to see it as a means to an end and not an end in and of itself. For instance, I spent about 3 weeks playing Soviets to unlock all the helicopters. By the time I got to the last two things were a bit stale. Fortunately, I play a lot of other nations and modes so I could/can shake things up to cure any woes. Did I go for the helicopters because they're OP and I want to wreck whole teams? No- having another option for ground attack to get a few kills here or there, shut down a flank, and supporting the defense/attack on caps. Sure, some of these vehicles have a reputation, I'm just more interested in the utility than the capability. The same goes for grinding aircraft- its a way to get CAS and if I find an option aside from the top tier aircraft that's plenty suitable, so be it. For the matches- realize that just because you die doesn't necessarily mean the perpetrator's vehicle is OP. Take stock of what you're doing, how you can improve, and focus on that. Worrying about teammates and how random players behave on certain maps will drive you up a wall. You do you and work around the limitations as best you can. Join a squadron or bring friends if you need to as it helps a ton. The game can be massively isolating without (healthy) communication and having a core group of folks you know and play with will alleviate many issues, both within the game and your psyche. For the balance- embrace the suck. If you've ever done any semi-competitive games you've probably experienced the latest update altering the meta as it lowers the proverbial stocks of some features/items while raising those of others. This happens a lot in WT. Realize that fortunes for nations/lineups come and go. Realize that the contours of imbalance does imply there are differences between things (that go beyond "it's just better"). Realize that doing well with off-meta strategies or equipment is an accomplishment and that that's something you could find joy in if you aren't in on the flavor of the month. For the modes- play what modes you want, how you want. Naval is a fairly relaxed alternative to ground and air, especially at the higher tiers. You don't have to be Phly, Spookston, Ash, Justin, or any of the other big creators in terms of skill and habits. Don't try to force things, have fun and play. Don't sweat daily tasks and hyper focus on them- 95% just playing foe the sake of playing will resolve them in short order. As cheesy as it sounds, you have to be zen about it.
Pretty true! I got into the game from a friend's invitation and so I wasn't initially aware of the modern aspect of the game, I simply joined to have fun and pick things up as I went along. "Oh the P40 looks cool I'll play some Italy!", "the KV-2 looks funny I should get it to mess around in!", "Oh dude the FV4005 and the Tortoise go in the same lineup? What?", "China gets a T-34 with a mounted machine-gun? Awesome!" And so forth. Just going around playing whatever you feel like playing and especially with friends will just get you to eventually unlock the other tanks anyways, I've been on China 7.7 lately and my friends have been taking me to 10.0 constantly and it's still a chill time because my goal is not to grind out the whole nation as fast as possible, just to enjoy our time together.
I usually know what I want and I just grind straight for it, and I had fun, get bored and found something else I want, grind for it, had fun, get bored, switch back, have fun, and occasionally find something else I want, grind, then have fun.
I was a veteran of world of tanks, and world of warships before coming to the blessed war thunder. My only flying experience was grand theft auto san andreas before. I've gone from props to early jets to supersonic jets. I'm hooked 😆 It definitely pays off no pun intended to be strategic with your purchases. The fifty percent off sales are the time.
9,700 hours since 2017. I don't enjoy playing the tech trees and haven't since a suicidal episode in 2019 while unlocking the M26 Pershing in the American tech tree. I buy premium vehicles and talismans and almost exclusively only play those now. It probably sounds stupid for the M26 to be the reason why but at that point I had amassed practically 5,000 hours in the game. I had gone up every interesting part (to me) of every tech tree available at the time and I was going up a missing branch of the US tree. It was a snowstorm day, we didn't have much food left and we didn't have much power because it was cutting out here and there. When I got the M26 on the 8th day of the snowstorm without premium, boosters or anything. I didn't feel gratified, I just felt alone and cold. I was there, I had used this vehicle as a vice to escape reality and now I had it. The vehicle itself was meaningless and as a teen trying to escape reality, meeting my goal meant I had to face reality again and it was just fucking awful. I play premium vehicles and talismanned vehicles now purely because I don't want to grind anymore. I don't see fun in the act of grinding or progression. I just see two sides of the game, premium and free-to-play. I choose premium because I want to collect, play and have available a vast collection of vehicles that I can re-enact movie scenes with, that I can just play care-free and without worry of some arbitrary looming negative amount of currency being charged to me. A thousand vehicles in and I only ever play 10 exclusively. It's nicer to see a bunch of gold cards in my line-up too because I know that by paying, I'm no longer having to worry. I can just pay and play at my leisure like an hourly game bar instead of forcing myself through something I don't like just to get five seconds of joy. Can everyone do it? hell no. Should I be giving money to an often-times predatory company? no. I just don't want to be back in that snowstorm again, escaping reality by grinding for something meaningless. To be grinding again for something while me and my father are ill and only to find out I chased an illusion while not taking care of my health. War Thunder alone did not make me feel suicidal. It was the way I approached with my obsession of progression, with my determination to escape reality, that did that. If you are ever in a situation like that snowstorm, spend time with your family instead and watch stuff together if possible. It's going to be better to stay together and do something you can have memories over, good memories.
I absolutely agree with you, I've been unemployed for the last 5 months due to war thunder addiction, I've been playing for like 5h a day, even my butt hurts because of 5h straight with no stretch whatsoever, I recently went back to GTA 5 and it's helping me alot with my war thunder addiction, not only I'm playing only 2-3h a day now but I'm also trying other games and I really regret spending 100 bucks in war thunder this past Christmas, I realized how bad Gaijin treats the player base that they don't deserve our money, war thunder addiction is real, follow this guy advice and see videos as a time of the day to relax and escape "temporarily" real world problems but don't stick to it, try to find enjoyment, war thunder is a grindy game, just ask yourself "what if I grind this hard for my life?" you'll realize war thunder has no meaning to your life and at some points, those servers are going to be shutting down, so go out, be with your family, friends, work on that project you have been delaying because of video games, grind the real world, not video games, the weight of regretting later on will be greater if you don't start today.
The truth is, playing warthunder is like being a wife to an abusive husband. You swear that you'll leave him, but somewhere deep down inside you unknowingly like it. There's a point, when you've been fucked so much that at one point you just start to like it.
i love the game but i wish we had a actual pve mode i feel like people would have waaaaayyy more fun if we were all able to play a mode where we cap points or team deathmatch with ai enemies and actually make sl/rp without spending sl like the current pve mode cause i dont care how much you love pvp sometimes you wanna take a break from the pvp pain and doof AIs with the boys....or alone.
Time is money, I know some people who do professional WT grinding and are able to go from 0 to F-15 (plus 5 million SL) in less than a week. The grind is unlike any other game I know but WT is somehow also one of the best games I have played at the same time.
Been playing since 2013. Honestly, the best rule of thumb is play until you stop having fun then log off for the day. I got friends who continually get super heated and rage on mic from various things. All you need is a premium account and most of your concerns just go out of the window. From there, play the way you see best and enjoy yourself. You are not losing money ever again. Fortunately, I am a big military vehicle enthusiast, so I have a lot of things to entertain myself with along the way. Ultimately, do not chase after top tier. Get vehicles you genuinely want and skip ones you dislike. Be sure you advance your skills along the way and avoid P2Wing your research. To this day, I always grabbed premiums on the basis I liked the vehicle or need a lil booster along the way. What you should not be doing, is grabbing a top tier premium and melting your tree away. Teammates like me will hate you and you're just a nuisance more than not unless you're properly competent. Where am I going with this rambling? I don't know. I'm just advising there are better ways to enjoy the game and not treat it like a job. A favorite time of the year for me on WT, is when they do event grind sessions. It's a good incentive for me to pick a line then start grinding. The 40k Score is a good limiter on how much I should be playing, which doesn't take long for me to fulfill. I find my grind to be less tiresome when I get to see that slider fill up. My biggest regrets in WT? Spending 200$ annually every year until 2020 because the grind was miserable to all hell before. Advice there; DO NOT FREE RESEARCH IN MODERN WARTHUNDER. The game is infinitely easier to progress in now than it ever has been. If you think not, you simply have not been there in the past. It was total hell. Anyway, thanks for listening to my 5 AM Ted Talk. Edit: Buy premium accounts only when it's on sale and use it as a charge for the year/or half the year.
you dont have to quit just dont expect to get things instantly like i personally like the grind as im a sl*t for unlocking things randomly i mean i dont pay attention to the tech tree till i need to pick a new vehicle to research then i just go about playing for fun with the squad just yesterday me n the squad did a TOG line which ended in us getting bombed by a bomber but it was fun.
So I have spent a couple thousand dollars on War Thunder over the years, mostly on premium vehicles, some premium time, and I've ground out the entire American Air Tree, minus the handful of planes that get added every patch, that grind will happen eventually as I just play the game. I used to play War Thunder as a job almost, trying to complete the tree and snag whatever new event vehicle is being promoted, but now I just play for fun. Even though I have all of the high tier US jets, I only play those with friends. If I'm flying solo, I'm probably at low tier and I'm also probably in sim. I have buddies who rib me about not being that good in jets (I was pretty good back when the F-4E and the MiG-21 were the top dogs but whatever) but I don't mind, because if I'm going to play, I want to enjoy myself.
Spot on. I only buy premium time when it’s on sale during Christmas so I get a years worth for half off. Then that takes me to the next Christmas season and get it again. Still…it took me roughly 1,005 hours total to unlock all current jets and tanks as of right now, except for the SEPv2. Been working on that one for a week, because I work. The 1,005 hours it took to get air and tanks for US took me about 12-13 months, not even including helis and naval. I’ve made it to rank 4 Germany and rank 4 Russia after that, I simply don’t want to play like that anymore. I’m tired boss.
I have 280 hours in war thunder in probably the last 2-3 months. I've mainly focused on just the US air tech tree, and I'm about 30k RP from the F-80 Shooting Star. I don't mind the long grind, but the hardest part for me is trying to get over the frustration of brain-dead teammates, level 100's spawn camping and the fact that in order to progress decently you have to pay. I've so far spent no money on the game but holy shit am I starting to lose my mind over it.
Im 6 years in and I still do not have a top tier tamk or jet😂 and you know what thats ok because it allowed me to broaden my knowledge and grind different nations (relatively evenly)
Same here i play with: russian br 7.0-8.0, Germany from tiger to maus, and brits chieftain. And of course the T-35 landship because i love that. I play the game for fun and with vehicles that are fun for me or enjoy it. Most of the time a loggin for the daily stuff then play something else.
This is not the first time I have read/heard that games should not feel like work. And past few months it felt exactly like that to me. Main reason I was doing that, is that I decided to grind free battlepass vehicles (and winter event on top of that). During that, I already realised it very much feels like work. I very much feel like I hate playing it and I am just doing it to finish the current battle task. But I kept doing it, because I started it, I wanted to finish it and not let the first half of grind go to waste. I amassed much more hours in WT than in any other game, because of that. Now, I am in a state where I am completely uninterested in unlocking any new vehicle, to try it out and the only motivation is to have as many unlocked in time for next sale. The main regret I have now, is that put so many hours in amassing so many vehicles that I am not interested to play anyway and frankly too many to play all of them anyway. Also when I am playing already spaded vehicles I feel like I am wasting time, because I don’t play new vehicles instead, because its more efficient way to grind.
I kinda disagree i got top tier in 2 nations in little time, most people focus to much on the grind and not enough on getting better if you do that the game will stay fun and the grind will go way faster. Im not a insane pilot but i still get about 2 kills a game and survive to the end of the game about 60 % of the time.

Yeah, I started playing naval a while ago, KMS and IJN navy mainly, naval isn’t really a fun mode as it is right now, but it is a lot less frustrating than ground or air RB
I’ve been playing for just over 2 years with like 670 days logged in, with low tier American jets, almost the entire French air tree, almost all of the Swedish air tree and ground and I have only started having fun cause of sim, but gaijin keeps messing sim up for some ungodly reason, and also I hate the SU-27
3000 hours since 2016 here, my pc is out of action for a bit so im playing on my brother's ps4 for now. my advice is to set a nice small goal like the bf109E4 or Cromwell I. low - med tier = fun tier
I loved what this game promised to be. And I hate how its now going. As someone who try to find the best way to play each and every vehicle, I have only just reached F-15A with like 5-6 years of going on and off. And I'm still not having fun.
started playing 2017 highest rank tech tree vehicles are 11.0 air 9.7 ground im 1.2 million research from the gripen that will take until probably april to get and then onto the US air and ground from my safe place sweden air and ground. i have 1.3k hours on WT with $820USD spent on GE and vehicles and premium time
I think the naval is a bit forgiving. I almost maxed out US naval blue water tree less than 4 months (bought moffets only) / 5hours a day no premiun acc
im on the verge of buying the f4junk to get the gripen, harrier, and british early jet tier after selling the mirage 2000 star event vehicle convince me to stray from that and settle for the three air trees I do have grinded out (USA, Russia, China) pls I need help
TL;DR: the F-4J has always been not great compared to other planes, even when the first version was added to the US tech tree, and the british version is by far the worst 11.3 Phantom. You won't have fun using it, because it sucks at being part of the TDM gameplay loop that is 11.3-12.3 RB. You will get burnt out from the game by the time you finish grinding. The british premium F-4 sits at 11.3. It is worse in almost every way to the regular F-4J in the US tech tree. Most matches (>60%) will be full uptiers to 12.3, so enjoy fighting F-14s, F-15s, F-16s, MiG-29s, Su-27s, Gripens, and Mirage 2/4000s all with their array of IRCCM missiles. Even in a full downtier, the MiG-23ML and MLD are, and have always been, distinctly better fighters than you. The Mirage F1's magic 2s have been buffed now making their IRCCM almost entirely unavoidable when fired from rear aspect. Your RWR cant even pick up some of the radar guided missiles that will be regularly fired at you. The american F-4J at least has AIM-7Fs (you don't) and HMD (you don't). The F-4S has better sparrows (AIM-7F), leading edge slats (you don't), HMD (you still don't), and a less-draggy gun pod. Literally you vs the guy she tells you not to worry about. You are completely outclassed in air to air engagements requiring BFM, and so most players flying premium phantoms attempt to rush bases at the start of the match. If you join them, you are going to spend every game competing with anywhere from 3 to sometimes upwards of 6 players to bomb one of 4 bases that take over 5 minutes to respawn, all the while trying not to killed by the enemy players coming straight at you on the deck just long enough for you to drop your bombs die. The gameplay loop will be entirely unfun and unforgiving, and most players who get them wind up feeling like the game is a job or a chore, and by the time you get the gripen you're going to be burnt out from the game. It's a bad plane and a terrible premium. You are better off trying to find a plane you actually like flying and ignoring the grind entirely so you can be surprised like a kid on christmas when you finally get to the end of the line. Save your money and buy an enjoyable game on steam or if WT is all your PC can run, put it towards an upgrade fund so you can get a better PC and start playing games that don't hit you with a shovel for not having the flavor of the month thing.
That's mostly untrue tho. The grind in war thunder is NOT bad. Try to play games like Black Desert and shit like that to see an hellish grind. In just 15 days i went from NO USSR PLANES to the Su-27 Flanker, just because i have a premium and i know what i'm doing.
To be honest I don't even like air because it is all dogfighting or nothing so I don't play it at all. Due to the way the game is it holds no interest for me so I normally skip right past Air content creators, but I started watching you on Tiktok and you've hands down become my favorite and probably the only person to watch for planes in war thunder.
For the gameplay I was flying in full real controls with my flight sim setup tbh 😂 That’s why it did that, I didn’t feel like flying with a controller lol. If ur talking about in replay mode, u can select “Attached camera” and then just zoom out and it should stay with the rotation

War Thunder is all about perspective. The grind, the matches, the balance, the modes... everything comes down to how you approach the game and understanding your own limitations as well as those of WT. I cannot understand the rageaholics and people who routinely spout that they hate the game but they're just as invested as I am.
For the grind- you have to see it as a means to an end and not an end in and of itself. For instance, I spent about 3 weeks playing Soviets to unlock all the helicopters. By the time I got to the last two things were a bit stale. Fortunately, I play a lot of other nations and modes so I could/can shake things up to cure any woes. Did I go for the helicopters because they're OP and I want to wreck whole teams? No- having another option for ground attack to get a few kills here or there, shut down a flank, and supporting the defense/attack on caps. Sure, some of these vehicles have a reputation, I'm just more interested in the utility than the capability. The same goes for grinding aircraft- its a way to get CAS and if I find an option aside from the top tier aircraft that's plenty suitable, so be it.
For the matches- realize that just because you die doesn't necessarily mean the perpetrator's vehicle is OP. Take stock of what you're doing, how you can improve, and focus on that. Worrying about teammates and how random players behave on certain maps will drive you up a wall. You do you and work around the limitations as best you can. Join a squadron or bring friends if you need to as it helps a ton. The game can be massively isolating without (healthy) communication and having a core group of folks you know and play with will alleviate many issues, both within the game and your psyche.
For the balance- embrace the suck. If you've ever done any semi-competitive games you've probably experienced the latest update altering the meta as it lowers the proverbial stocks of some features/items while raising those of others. This happens a lot in WT. Realize that fortunes for nations/lineups come and go. Realize that the contours of imbalance does imply there are differences between things (that go beyond "it's just better"). Realize that doing well with off-meta strategies or equipment is an accomplishment and that that's something you could find joy in if you aren't in on the flavor of the month.
For the modes- play what modes you want, how you want. Naval is a fairly relaxed alternative to ground and air, especially at the higher tiers. You don't have to be Phly, Spookston, Ash, Justin, or any of the other big creators in terms of skill and habits. Don't try to force things, have fun and play. Don't sweat daily tasks and hyper focus on them- 95% just playing foe the sake of playing will resolve them in short order.

Pretty true! I got into the game from a friend's invitation and so I wasn't initially aware of the modern aspect of the game, I simply joined to have fun and pick things up as I went along. "Oh the P40 looks cool I'll play some Italy!", "the KV-2 looks funny I should get it to mess around in!", "Oh dude the FV4005 and the Tortoise go in the same lineup? What?", "China gets a T-34 with a mounted machine-gun? Awesome!" And so forth. Just going around playing whatever you feel like playing and especially with friends will just get you to eventually unlock the other tanks anyways, I've been on China 7.7 lately and my friends have been taking me to 10.0 constantly and it's still a chill time because my goal is not to grind out the whole nation as fast as possible, just to enjoy our time together.

I usually know what I want and I just grind straight for it, and I had fun, get bored and found something else I want, grind for it, had fun, get bored, switch back, have fun, and occasionally find something else I want, grind, then have fun.
I was a veteran of world of tanks, and world of warships before coming to the blessed war thunder. My only flying experience was grand theft auto san andreas before. I've gone from props to early jets to supersonic jets. I'm hooked 😆 It definitely pays off no pun intended to be strategic with your purchases. The fifty percent off sales are the time.

I don't enjoy playing the tech trees and haven't since a suicidal episode in 2019 while unlocking the M26 Pershing in the American tech tree. I buy premium vehicles and talismans and almost exclusively only play those now.
It probably sounds stupid for the M26 to be the reason why but at that point I had amassed practically 5,000 hours in the game. I had gone up every interesting part (to me) of every tech tree available at the time and I was going up a missing branch of the US tree. It was a snowstorm day, we didn't have much food left and we didn't have much power because it was cutting out here and there. When I got the M26 on the 8th day of the snowstorm without premium, boosters or anything. I didn't feel gratified, I just felt alone and cold. I was there, I had used this vehicle as a vice to escape reality and now I had it. The vehicle itself was meaningless and as a teen trying to escape reality, meeting my goal meant I had to face reality again and it was just fucking awful.
I play premium vehicles and talismanned vehicles now purely because I don't want to grind anymore. I don't see fun in the act of grinding or progression. I just see two sides of the game, premium and free-to-play. I choose premium because I want to collect, play and have available a vast collection of vehicles that I can re-enact movie scenes with, that I can just play care-free and without worry of some arbitrary looming negative amount of currency being charged to me. A thousand vehicles in and I only ever play 10 exclusively. It's nicer to see a bunch of gold cards in my line-up too because I know that by paying, I'm no longer having to worry. I can just pay and play at my leisure like an hourly game bar instead of forcing myself through something I don't like just to get five seconds of joy.
Can everyone do it? hell no. Should I be giving money to an often-times predatory company? no. I just don't want to be back in that snowstorm again, escaping reality by grinding for something meaningless. To be grinding again for something while me and my father are ill and only to find out I chased an illusion while not taking care of my health.
War Thunder alone did not make me feel suicidal. It was the way I approached with my obsession of progression, with my determination to escape reality, that did that. If you are ever in a situation like that snowstorm, spend time with your family instead and watch stuff together if possible. It's going to be better to stay together and do something you can have memories over, good memories.
I absolutely agree with you, I've been unemployed for the last 5 months due to war thunder addiction, I've been playing for like 5h a day, even my butt hurts because of 5h straight with no stretch whatsoever, I recently went back to GTA 5 and it's helping me alot with my war thunder addiction, not only I'm playing only 2-3h a day now but I'm also trying other games and I really regret spending 100 bucks in war thunder this past Christmas, I realized how bad Gaijin treats the player base that they don't deserve our money, war thunder addiction is real, follow this guy advice and see videos as a time of the day to relax and escape "temporarily" real world problems but don't stick to it, try to find enjoyment, war thunder is a grindy game, just ask yourself "what if I grind this hard for my life?" you'll realize war thunder has no meaning to your life and at some points, those servers are going to be shutting down, so go out, be with your family, friends, work on that project you have been delaying because of video games, grind the real world, not video games, the weight of regretting later on will be greater if you don't start today.

The truth is, playing warthunder is like being a wife to an abusive husband. You swear that you'll leave him, but somewhere deep down inside you unknowingly like it.
There's a point, when you've been fucked so much that at one point you just start to like it.
i love the game but i wish we had a actual pve mode i feel like people would have waaaaayyy more fun if we were all able to play a mode where we cap points or team deathmatch with ai enemies and actually make sl/rp without spending sl like the current pve mode cause i dont care how much you love pvp sometimes you wanna take a break from the pvp pain and doof AIs with the boys....or alone.

Time is money, I know some people who do professional WT grinding and are able to go from 0 to F-15 (plus 5 million SL) in less than a week.
The grind is unlike any other game I know but WT is somehow also one of the best games I have played at the same time.

Honestly, the best rule of thumb is play until you stop having fun then log off for the day.
I got friends who continually get super heated and rage on mic from various things.
All you need is a premium account and most of your concerns just go out of the window.
From there, play the way you see best and enjoy yourself. You are not losing money ever again.
Fortunately, I am a big military vehicle enthusiast, so I have a lot of things to entertain myself with along the way.
Ultimately, do not chase after top tier. Get vehicles you genuinely want and skip ones you dislike. Be sure you advance your skills along the way and avoid P2Wing your research.
To this day, I always grabbed premiums on the basis I liked the vehicle or need a lil booster along the way.
What you should not be doing, is grabbing a top tier premium and melting your tree away. Teammates like me will hate you and you're just a nuisance more than not unless you're properly competent.
Where am I going with this rambling? I don't know. I'm just advising there are better ways to enjoy the game and not treat it like a job.
A favorite time of the year for me on WT, is when they do event grind sessions. It's a good incentive for me to pick a line then start grinding. The 40k Score is a good limiter on how much I should be playing, which doesn't take long for me to fulfill. I find my grind to be less tiresome when I get to see that slider fill up.
My biggest regrets in WT? Spending 200$ annually every year until 2020 because the grind was miserable to all hell before.
Advice there; DO NOT FREE RESEARCH IN MODERN WARTHUNDER. The game is infinitely easier to progress in now than it ever has been. If you think not, you simply have not been there in the past. It was total hell.

you dont have to quit just dont expect to get things instantly like i personally like the grind as im a sl*t for unlocking things randomly i mean i dont pay attention to the tech tree till i need to pick a new vehicle to research then i just go about playing for fun with the squad just yesterday me n the squad did a TOG line which ended in us getting bombed by a bomber but it was fun.

So I have spent a couple thousand dollars on War Thunder over the years, mostly on premium vehicles, some premium time, and I've ground out the entire American Air Tree, minus the handful of planes that get added every patch, that grind will happen eventually as I just play the game. I used to play War Thunder as a job almost, trying to complete the tree and snag whatever new event vehicle is being promoted, but now I just play for fun. Even though I have all of the high tier US jets, I only play those with friends. If I'm flying solo, I'm probably at low tier and I'm also probably in sim. I have buddies who rib me about not being that good in jets (I was pretty good back when the F-4E and the MiG-21 were the top dogs but whatever) but I don't mind, because if I'm going to play, I want to enjoy myself.
Spot on. I only buy premium time when it’s on sale during Christmas so I get a years worth for half off. Then that takes me to the next Christmas season and get it again.
Still…it took me roughly 1,005 hours total to unlock all current jets and tanks as of right now, except for the SEPv2. Been working on that one for a week, because I work. The 1,005 hours it took to get air and tanks for US took me about 12-13 months, not even including helis and naval.
I’ve made it to rank 4 Germany and rank 4 Russia after that, I simply don’t want to play like that anymore. I’m tired boss.

I have 280 hours in war thunder in probably the last 2-3 months. I've mainly focused on just the US air tech tree, and I'm about 30k RP from the F-80 Shooting Star. I don't mind the long grind, but the hardest part for me is trying to get over the frustration of brain-dead teammates, level 100's spawn camping and the fact that in order to progress decently you have to pay. I've so far spent no money on the game but holy shit am I starting to lose my mind over it.

Same here i play with: russian br 7.0-8.0, Germany from tiger to maus, and brits chieftain. And of course the T-35 landship because i love that. I play the game for fun and with vehicles that are fun for me or enjoy it. Most of the time a loggin for the daily stuff then play something else.
This is not the first time I have read/heard that games should not feel like work.
And past few months it felt exactly like that to me.
Main reason I was doing that, is that I decided to grind free battlepass vehicles (and winter event on top of that). During that, I already realised it very much feels like work.
I very much feel like I hate playing it and I am just doing it to finish the current battle task.
But I kept doing it, because I started it, I wanted to finish it and not let the first half of grind go to waste.
I amassed much more hours in WT than in any other game, because of that.
Now, I am in a state where I am completely uninterested in unlocking any new vehicle, to try it out and the only motivation is to have as many unlocked in time for next sale.
The main regret I have now, is that put so many hours in amassing so many vehicles that I am not interested to play anyway and frankly too many to play all of them anyway.
Also when I am playing already spaded vehicles I feel like I am wasting time, because I don’t play new vehicles instead, because its more efficient way to grind.
I kinda disagree i got top tier in 2 nations in little time, most people focus to much on the grind and not enough on getting better if you do that the game will stay fun and the grind will go way faster. Im not a insane pilot but i still get about 2 kills a game and survive to the end of the game about 60 % of the time.
That is sort of what I’m saying though. I never want it to feel like grinding so I find planes that I think are fun to fly and use those

I’ve been playing for just over 2 years with like 670 days logged in, with low tier American jets, almost the entire French air tree, almost all of the Swedish air tree and ground and I have only started having fun cause of sim, but gaijin keeps messing sim up for some ungodly reason, and also I hate the SU-27
only got 155 hrs and up to 5.7 on US, and up to 2-3 br on the other majors, completely free to play, love messing around in the chaffee
i am 12.0 america air 10.3 tanks and some decent progress in other tech trees completely f2p took 970hours
3000 hours since 2016 here, my pc is out of action for a bit so im playing on my brother's ps4 for now.
my advice is to set a nice small goal like the bf109E4 or Cromwell I.

As someone who try to find the best way to play each and every vehicle, I have only just reached F-15A with like 5-6 years of going on and off.
And I'm still not having fun.

started playing 2017 highest rank tech tree vehicles are 11.0 air 9.7 ground im 1.2 million research from the gripen that will take until probably april to get and then onto the US air and ground from my safe place sweden air and ground. i have 1.3k hours on WT with $820USD spent on GE and vehicles and premium time
I think the naval is a bit forgiving. I almost maxed out US naval blue water tree less than 4 months (bought moffets only) / 5hours a day no premiun acc

TL;DR: the F-4J has always been not great compared to other planes, even when the first version was added to the US tech tree, and the british version is by far the worst 11.3 Phantom. You won't have fun using it, because it sucks at being part of the TDM gameplay loop that is 11.3-12.3 RB. You will get burnt out from the game by the time you finish grinding.
The british premium F-4 sits at 11.3. It is worse in almost every way to the regular F-4J in the US tech tree. Most matches (>60%) will be full uptiers to 12.3, so enjoy fighting F-14s, F-15s, F-16s, MiG-29s, Su-27s, Gripens, and Mirage 2/4000s all with their array of IRCCM missiles. Even in a full downtier, the MiG-23ML and MLD are, and have always been, distinctly better fighters than you. The Mirage F1's magic 2s have been buffed now making their IRCCM almost entirely unavoidable when fired from rear aspect. Your RWR cant even pick up some of the radar guided missiles that will be regularly fired at you. The american F-4J at least has AIM-7Fs (you don't) and HMD (you don't). The F-4S has better sparrows (AIM-7F), leading edge slats (you don't), HMD (you still don't), and a less-draggy gun pod. Literally you vs the guy she tells you not to worry about.
You are completely outclassed in air to air engagements requiring BFM, and so most players flying premium phantoms attempt to rush bases at the start of the match. If you join them, you are going to spend every game competing with anywhere from 3 to sometimes upwards of 6 players to bomb one of 4 bases that take over 5 minutes to respawn, all the while trying not to killed by the enemy players coming straight at you on the deck just long enough for you to drop your bombs die. The gameplay loop will be entirely unfun and unforgiving, and most players who get them wind up feeling like the game is a job or a chore, and by the time you get the gripen you're going to be burnt out from the game. It's a bad plane and a terrible premium. You are better off trying to find a plane you actually like flying and ignoring the grind entirely so you can be surprised like a kid on christmas when you finally get to the end of the line. Save your money and buy an enjoyable game on steam or if WT is all your PC can run, put it towards an upgrade fund so you can get a better PC and start playing games that don't hit you with a shovel for not having the flavor of the month thing.

That's mostly untrue tho. The grind in war thunder is NOT bad. Try to play games like Black Desert and shit like that to see an hellish grind. In just 15 days i went from NO USSR PLANES to the Su-27 Flanker, just because i have a premium and i know what i'm doing.
To be honest I don't even like air because it is all dogfighting or nothing so I don't play it at all. Due to the way the game is it holds no interest for me so I normally skip right past Air content creators, but I started watching you on Tiktok and you've hands down become my favorite and probably the only person to watch for planes in war thunder.

For the gameplay I was flying in full real controls with my flight sim setup tbh 😂 That’s why it did that, I didn’t feel like flying with a controller lol. If ur talking about in replay mode, u can select “Attached camera” and then just zoom out and it should stay with the rotation
