    Well done. Just been listening to a bit of Dire Straits....a bit of trivia....'Brothers In Arms' was the first ever DDD recording that sold over a million in the new format of CD. So just another 999,990 cassettes to go.......Brilliant achievement and a testament to your chops that no editing was done (do 'drop-ins' count as editing?).

      Thanks man, and I didn’t know that Brothers in Arms was the first DDD to sell over a million copies! Good question if drop in’s count as editing, if so there were a lot of those in my album 😅.

    Still cant get over a) how good the drums sound, and B) how much presence there is ! That's what I love about vinyl to be honest the high end.. and c) how good the vocals sit and meld, I guess the main secret is a good compressor?

      Many thanks for watching, the eq and compressor certainly make a big difference.

    Hey, it’s the tune you made on the WS-X1! Sounds great. Your mixing skills are 💯. There are some really good dual decks that have great frequency response. This has been a great series. Rather than boosting the high-end on the mixer, did you first try calibrating your cassette deck to the particular tapes that you’re using? I’m visually impaired, so I can’t see what cassette deck you have, but a lot of 3 head decks allow you to adjust the Bias to ensure you’re getting the most you can out of each cassette.

    • @wehappyfewmusic
      @wehappyfewmusic  Рік тому +4

      Hi Tim, it’s great to hear you’ve enjoyed the series and thanks for checking out the final episode! I was using a Technics RS-BX626 and does have a bias adjustment (I should of mentioned that 😊). I adjusted it off camera but it still wasn’t quite enough for my liking.

    • @timgiebel
      @timgiebel Рік тому +1

      @@wehappyfewmusic sorry totally forgot to reply to this! That’s great that it has a bias adjustment. Perhaps it’s just not adjusting the bias enough to match these particular tapes. Or perhaps these tapes are just not as good quality. Ideally you shouldn’t really be able to hear a quality difference between the tape and sauce when you switch between them. Have you tried recording on a renowned ferric, even something like a TDK D and seeing how your results compare?

    • @wehappyfewmusic
      @wehappyfewmusic  Рік тому

      @@timgiebel great idea, yes that’d be a good way of checking if it’s the tapes or the machine! Unfortunately one of the tracks has stopped recording on this technics deck. One minute it was fine, then it wasn’t. 😤

    Nice work and it sounds really good. Do you have a video on monitoring? What I'm getting at is if you inaccurately hear the source in your room with your monitoring...then the decisions you make regarding any adjustments will be ill-informed. How do you ensure that your music translates so well and sounds good on a range of playback scenarios...headphones, earbuds, cars, laptops, ipads etc?

    • @wehappyfewmusic
      @wehappyfewmusic  3 місяці тому +1

      Thanks very much, glad you like how it turned out!
      Monitoring can be tricky in a home studio and can involve some work arounds. My main approach is to compare my mixes to professionally finished tracks that I know well. This acts as a good benchmark to help inform the decisions I make with my set up. I also do the other techniques you mentioned, including using a couple of different grotbox speakers.
      I haven’t covered this on the channel yet, but it could make an interesting video. 👍

    • @wehappyfewmusic
      @wehappyfewmusic  Рік тому +1

      I’d recommend you look out for a 3 head cassette deck by one of the big manufacturers like Sony, Technics, Yamaha or Denon. You can get some great units for around the £100 mark on the 2nd hand market.

    • @timgiebel
      @timgiebel Рік тому +1

      Or even something like a Yamaha KX393 will give good results, although it’s not a three head model, depends what you want to do with it mostly though, play, or record, or both.
