One of the most important books on the UNO is by a very prominent American historian Paul Kennedy. The book entitled "The Parliament of Man" takes a historical look at the evolution of international organizations, a process which culminated in the establishment of UNO in 1945. A very enjoyable read indeed.
Preoccupation with attainment of veto status in UNSC is unnecessary, somewhat demeaning and sign of weakness. It will come when it comes. India only has to get stronger economically, militarily and diplomatically. It must remain relevant in both bilateral ties with as many countries as possible and world context.
It's not a pipe dream. India deserves a permanent seat at the UNSC. To do that India must improve its track record. Track record of India is tarnished by its very hawkish policies towards its close neighbours. The Akhand Bharat agenda of RSS is tarnishing its image even further.
@@ziaushshams8840 Ur words can tell ur thinking . Hawkish policy ??? Bhutan , nepal , Sri Lanka , Bangladesh no one is at war at us. We are the biggest buyers of Nepal and yet we are hawkish . Wow
We should abolish permanent UNSC membership and limit the Council to six members, one from each continent which are randomly selected for six year terms and with one member swapping out each year.
With respect, why does India need to have a veto power or be in the UNSC permanently? For example, when UNSC voted on Russian aggression against Ukraine, what did India do? Abstain! When asked about sanctions, Jeyashankar said it is in India's interest to trade with Russia! Okay, why should India get a UNSC seat if it has no universal views, for example, in punishing Russia for its aggression? So, India did not want to be counted despite an imperial war on Ukraine by Putin. India has not really stood up for much of anything even in South Asia where it bullies its neighbors, including land locked Nepal and tiny Sri Lanka pushing them both to China. No UNSC nation represents a region, and certainly not China! That is not how it works! Representation is just absurd as a concept in global politics! This is embarrassingly poor analysis by the Hindu, no wonder people do not take New Delhi seriously to something global! It is as poor as India's pro-Russian hiccups.
Then what about US invading all the smaller countries for its own politics.. what about China which doesn't respect any international laws being a permanent member.. I believe except the prejudiced view against India, you don't have any understanding of global politics and btw all Europe is buying oil and gas from Russia during the war
Rather criticising the neutral stand of India , think on the neutral line : 1.What actually is the function of a security council , other than just to kindle enmity amming themselves by grouping ( NATO) and by starting a war ( Russia) and doing veto everytime when India wants the membership ( chinese ). 2.why India should become a prrmanent member in this ?. .....
@@Behappy11231 Indian is not neutral, just neutered by Putin, and this so as New Delhi has no vision/agency of its own. Thank you for the book recommendations. It was interesting to hear your perspective. However, I would say this time India's push for a permanent seat at UNSC is much stronger than the effort in 2009. Circumstances in the world politics have changed and US has shown unequivocal support to India's ability to take decisions as a responsible power in the region and the world.
For India, Brazil, Germany and Japan to get a Permanent Seat at the UNSC they need the support of African Union or Africa which has more than 54 countries. Africa wants a larger security council with more seats for non-permanent and one African Permanent security council seat. The dilemma here is that with a larger security council it will become ineffective and USA a Permanent member with veto powers will not allow this to occur, same with Russia. In conclusion, USA, and Russia do indirectly oppose the reforms at the UNSC.
Reform essential sure but for the reform to be a benifit then un has to gain something from it.will including more members in security council enable proxy control by the more powerful thus increasing their power still more?in exchange of a seat in security council will un get a more unbaised council.more than a official seat meaningful relationships among the leaders of the world working towards the common goal of sustainable equitiable world is important

UN Security Council needs add lots of permanent members of Africa , Asia , Latin America
