Burnout is REAL in residency and medical school. This is why it is very important to pick programs that acknowledge wellness and have work schedules that reflect this. For anyone going into IM please pick programs with a X+Y schedules and avoid traditional schedules at all cost! This will make your work life balance so much better and supports your mental health.
"why dont we better it" and that is facts, increased compensation and reduced hours for residents, i think that will be excellent and it should be the focus. I had no idea that residents were paid that low, knew about the hours..
Hi Julia, I’m premed and I’ve recently watched all your videos. They are SO helpful. ❤ Thank you so much for sharing your journey!! It’s has helped me so much. It’s has been so refreshing to see someone who looks like me in Medicine. You are very inspirational!!!
This was really well said. I'm currently an intern too and feeling burn out as well. I hope we can be the generation of residences who can make change in the system. Enjoy your vacation!
you were spittin for the first half of this video. We really need reform. Residents are underpaid and overworked and they expect us to be on 100 all the time.
Thank you so much for doing this residency videos! You have come this far and you will get through residency as well! Please keep encouraging us by your vlogs❤️
Glad you get to enjoy some much needed vacation time! Does your residency program require you to take vacation 2 weeks at a time? Are you able to split up your vacation time into 1 week vacations?
We have to take it in two week blocks! Which is nice because it gives me enough time to actually rejuvenate and travel if I want. One week goes by quickly, especially when the first few days I’m catching up on sleep 😩☺️
Also, how does residency affect your relationship? Do you find it makes it harder? I worry that my future partner will look elsewhere or be overwhelmed when I may be more concerned about my mental/physical health in residency
Hey Julia! I have some questions for your Q and A video! I was wondering: if pay in residency is pretty bad, how do you finance the life you have rn? Also, considering all the struggles you've been through to get to where you are now, did you ever consider going another route- like NP or PA?
When is your residency going to become more tailored to what you are specializing in? Is intern year more like first year in college…wetting your feet?

The way you inspire me. I get so wide tracked as a pre med and you always upload at the right time. Thank you Dr.Carter❤
I would start bursting in tears when I would be in the phone with my mom once a week every week. Residency was complete hell.
You have no idea how much I look forward to your VLOGs! It's the realness for me!! Thank you Dr. Carter. Keep going, God's got you!

Enjoy vacation! You are absolutely right…the pay should reflect the responsibility.

Did you watch this video? Dr Carter explained the vacation policy clearly so your questions were redundant.
