I went from being a casual PvE scrub to enjoying being apart of any Guilds that helped train people in raids who where wanting to go mythic with the seasoned Guildies.
ICC was the peak of WoW’s design to me. The Lich King appeared through out the expansion and then finally we get to his fort and have to fight to the top to kill him, each floor getting closer and closer. The fights were fun and memorable. My top 3 raids: 1. ICC 2. Kara 3. Firelands
Cata will always be my favorite. Asmon is so right about the beginning on cata being S teir. I will always remember watching soda on XFire while dueling him outside Org. Those where the days man...
Soda streaming and other people streaming. Was a really fun time. Exploring everything never got old. Sad to say just about everyone but 1-2 people on my full bnet friends list still plays from that time.
@@exeterra4825 yes. Having to choose between 3 talents a whole 10 fricking levels, pruning classes, and dealing with overpowered monks made it totally the best PVP compared to previous expansions, what a joke.
For me, who personally play a solitary experience by choice, Patch 5.1 Landfall actually made a huge difference as it was the patch which removed the raid group restrictions for old end-game content, as it id away with the need to be in a raid group to even enter the raid in the first place. This opened up so much for me because I could finally see what a lot of those old content raids looked like as I finally wrapped up storylines I had lingering in the quest log since back in TBC.
Wotlk my favo still but mop was my 2th pick not wrong but killing lich king was still the best experience I've ever had. I think asmon is wrong for the b. I always loved the story telling in the raids and dungeons.
Everyone hates dungeon finder, im just over here remembering how many dungeons I never saw, how much lore I missed because I couldnt find a group to run a dungeon with. After dungeon finder came out I was able to reroll and see all of this missed content.
WotLK 1ST patch is S tier because they listened to us and gave us what we asked for. We wanted Naxx back and nerfed, and we got it. You forgot to mention that and it plays a huge role as it reflects the different leadership and management mentalities of the different iterations we've had of Blizz. S Tier dude, no less.
Honestly Cataclysm deserves such justice. People think its AWFUL because Dragon Soul was boring and lasted for a long time, but that doesnt define the entire expansion....
I like how Asmongold still plays WOW and enjoys it. In contrast, some people get bored and want to play other games, so they don’t renew their subscription unless there is a new expansion or whatever.
@@eqquito Mop was fun as hell, the classes feels amazing. You get a new race AND a new class, pokemon battle, scenario's, amazing environment. There were lots of new contents. I loved the fast levelling pace and rushing through the dungeons kept me in a "flow state". Sure there were problems with the expansion, but it beats legion imo. Even the classes felt better in wod than legion, bfa and shadowlands. The problem with wod is that u have nothing to do.
Man this is actually the first time I’ve completely and utterly disagreed with Admin and I can’t even complain because it’s a personal opinion, but man ICC was one of the coolest fucking raids in the game. The theme alone carried it. How you went through the different areas, seeing each death knight spec theme in each different areas (ie the frost areas, blood areas and the disease sections all as you’re fighting these constructs of the Lich king. I know a lot of people didn’t like it but that air fight was sick too. Then you get up on the lich kings platform and he’s chillin there MAAAAAN dude the vibes were immaculate. If you look at it completely objectively as a raid, take the theme away and just look at the mechanics, then of course it will suck, most of blizzards raid mechanics back then were simple but thematically is were they shined. I think ICC was one of the best raids simply for the fact that it genuinely felt like you were taking the fight directly into the heart of a vastly powerful enemy and fighting your way to the source, the music the cinematic to wrap his story, everything about that raid, personally anyway, was a 10/10. But that’s just because I personally don’t care about the raid mechanics, the theme/lore are more important for me.
34:30 I 100% with McConnell. I did have guild groups for some raids like Karazhan, ICC, SoO and some Legion raids but outside of that and someone who doesn't work a "traditional" 9-5 schedule it's almost impossible to find a weekend guild so LFR, while technically easy mode, allowed me to see raid content I could normally never see and on that note I didn't use it till the Throne of Thunder patch lol
I thought corruption was pretty cool early on, how you had to balance your power to the negative effects you would get. How you could play around with gear and different corruptions for each boss you were progressing. Later on it just became a "stack x or y stat" however but... It was fun, the insane Haste made classes feel soooo fun to play
That is how min max does it, look how wow classic raiding went with world buffs, dispite being 100% optional and yet people get forced to follow meta by hardcore tryhard elitists
Yeah it happens in M+ too. I have been kicked from +15s before they start for playing Outlaw over Sub because Sub is the MDI meta despite +15s being easy and not needing meta specs at all
I tried getting into World of Warcraft when The Burning Crusade came out, but my buddy who was all-in on Warcraft at the time kept falling asleep while trying to teach me the game (he worked third shift at the time). Even though I never really got into WoW, Asmongold makes this content so fun, I can't not watch. 🤣🤣🤣
Honestly, I wish they hadn’t changed the classes after Wrath, they were perfect back then and should have only gained new abilities and talents instead of being changed and nerfed to heck. And Death Knights in Wrath were freaking awesome, I don’t care how Asmon felt about them. I also found having your ghoul Zerg rush your target only to blow up like a crate of dynamite hilarious, wanting to destroy your enemy by any means, even if it means nuking your own minions to do it. Ahh, will always miss those freezing nights in Northrend.
I actually loved WOTLK release DKs because they were actually, ya know, marketed as a 'Hero Class', meant to be seen as something better than a normal class. GRANTED, the presences stacking in a raid might have been a smidge broken
Yeah but having a hero class didn't make sense lol. And it wasnt even that good. It was a melee dps which are worse then ranged. DKs dps was still lower then pure dps classes as Rogue, Hunter, Mage, Warlock. And it was a tank without shield ... It wasnt that OP
I'm detecting some biased on the ranged DPS point, but I can somewhat agree, and to make up for the lack of a shield, blood Death Knights had alot of self healing and single target damage. I'm kinda with you on DPS though, Frost and Unholy left alot to be desired in terms of numbers when compared to Rogues rocking the same ilvl gear in Frost's case and say, an arms Warrior it Ret paladin in same ilvl gear as an Unholy. I guess my point should have been the Blood Death Knight was the true hero class lol.
@@KyrexNuope I played DK as main in Legion as Frost dps and also Blood for tanking. But I came too late for the party. It was very slow class. Breath of Sindragosa was stressful to play as when you had to move you could drop it and lose damage. It was still fun though. In Wrath I played ret pally. And blood Dk did more damage. I wouldnt say it was exceptional. And ret pally had blessing of kings, auras, hands, lay on hands, sacred shield, jugdmeent of light and many other valuable buffs. So actually they wanted me in the raid over DKs :D
Well Kaxcer I apologize for my assumption of Ranged DPS biased, but when I was referring to the Death Knights, it's coming from someone who played till Mists of Pandaria and had to quit, hence why I was referring to release DKs, and yes paladins provided buffs. But I'm in the camp of Blood having always been the tank spec. So when I referred to blood, I was referring just purely to tanking. Now mind you this is also from the perspective of a Combat Rogue main back in Burning Crusade. But when I put together raids, I had a preference of A Blood DK and Prot paladin for 10-mans, just for their overall reliability on aggro control and self preservation, not necessarily for their damage, though they could still pump good numbers. So it's a bias on my part, a preference of having blood Death Knights tank for me was just Omni present. And as for my original comment,in release, Death Knights presences acted like Auras on Paladins, but they stacked, so on release day, me and the boys rolled DKs and right when we got free, we charged ZG 9Dks deep with a priest for fun making it to Hakkar. Later that week it was patched, and the world was forever deprived of hilarious shit like the idea of an all Death Knight raid group lol. It was less a statement in the class as a whole, and more a statement on the fun memories of a release Death Knight spree
@@KyrexNuope no problem about the ranged bias. I actually had alt hunter in Legion. And after maining DH tank in BfA. I decided to switch to MM Hunter for SL. So im now a ranged main spec. But that im not biased. Its just opinion that perhaps ranged are better since I always played melee before. But ranged dont have it that easy. They still have lot of mechanics to dodge and most importantly they are casting abilities which roots them and they cant dodge. I still have my DK alt which I play as dps.
Yeh marrowgar might be ez, it's the first boss. Lady deathwhisper who was the 2nd boss was hard af on HC tho and is considered the 2-3rd hardest fight in ICC

@@BattousaiHBr I came back a the end of cata to do some top tier raids with the guild and see if my quitting after so many years was valid, and apart from a couple of zones that were nice to look at. most of everything was pretty shitty. I didn't like how they changed the classes. excluding rend spread for protection. Firelands bored the pants off me after a month. as I didn't watch any vids on it and jumped right in and hardly messed up any mechanics. it did not get harder. The 5mans were not as interesting as even the prior ones. LFG had separated people so much that it was less about doing things together and just about loot grabbing to hang out in cities bragging. there was no build testing. as most classes had obvious choices. The fact I was geared in the first month I started back and then was left to wanted the world with nothing to do or lvl an alt got old fast. and the content its self left me wanting more. some of the mechanic requires people to communicate but LFG killed that for daily 5mans were a chore... overall it was boring. so I quit again.. @@BattousaiHBr if the game was good it would have better numbers. I was hyped and excited for all the new content. it did not last long. I played with 12 other friends locally and they too left cata after playing wow from day 1. All my guild members had the same thoughts. many of them left around the same time. yes the LK died but wow was all about team play that was stripped when LFG was introduced.. it became pocketed and guilds hung with guilds and trade/global became not much more than advertising
So, ive done the math. Lets give each patch a number of points, depending on its rank (S: 3; A: 2; B: 1; C: -1; D: -2; F: -3), add them up together, then average them out to determine the ranking of each addon: BC: 3+3+2+1-3 = 6/5 = 1.2 WotLk: 3+1-1-3 = 0 Cata: 3+3-1-3 = 2/4 = 0.5 MoP: 3+3+3-1-2 = 6/5 = 1.2 WoD: 2-3-1 = -2/3 = -0.67 Legion: 1+2+3+3 = 9/4 = 2.25 BfA: -3-1+3-2 = -3/4 = -0.75 This leaves us with this final ranking: Legion > BC = MoP > Cata > Wrath > WoD > BfA
Cata is what killed WoW for me. I started playing in vanilla when I was like 13. By the time cata hit I was 19 or 20. Some very formative years. If times were bad I could always go home to azeroth. It became a place of comfort. I could just log on and run around the zones I liked and pick herbs or fish or whatever. And then cata came and they decided it would be a good idea to have a big stupid dragon come destroy the world I had come to know and love for nearly half of my life. I could no longer go to my favorite spots. My azeroth was gone. It was like blizzard had decided to put one last nail in the coffin. One final "fuck you" to the players who loved the challenge of actually using CC and watching threat meters and wiping on progression. They had been making the game more and more casual friendly for years which is fine but it seemed to have lost all the challenge. Hence the term "wrath babies" coming to be known. By cata it seems they had gone so far into that design choice that they wanted to get rid of the world too, just like how they had successfully gotten rid of most of the origonal playerbase. So they did. They sent a big stupid dragon to get rid of the last of us. And it worked.
Compared to other MMO's from the late 90s and early 2000s, Vanilla WoW was as casual friendly as it gets. Classic showed us that the game wasn't challenging; the playerbase was just bad. Personally, I haven't touched WoW or any Blizz game since MoP but I'm fairly certain current retail content on Mythic is more challenging than anything you did in Vanilla or TBC
3:30 ZA was the first real 10 man. And easy to get ppl together for it. But, great layout, challenging fights. Mount loot. I ran a lot of pugs for that. Lots of wipes.
I have to agree with @ Asmongold TV here! I still remember doing my first dungeon in wow BC and we went in with 3 dps DK's and 1 shadow priest and non of us was even close to dying DK's was so broken so when they fixed it I made a new DK to experience the DK as it should be
So agree with Cataclysm expansion classification. It was insane when it came out with so much to do, especially if one was willing to begin from scratch and experience the new world content. The raids were brilliant and challenging. And yes, the 5 man dungeons were varied and HARD! Completing anyone of them gave you a true sense of accomplishment. Too bad Blizz caved to the cry babies and nerfed things after a short time :(
saying they were too hard was a valid complaint, blizz messed up in wotlk by making everything way too easy so they overcompensated on difficulty in cataclysm
Cata 1st patch is 100% an S tier patch/ expansion launch. Was so much fun to play at launch and stopped not to long after the nerfs, Just made the game less fun
Bruh, mop was easily my favorite xpac. There was so much to do! And 95% of it was actually fun as fuck. ICC was the peak of WoW’s design to me. The Lich King appeared through out the expansion and then finally we get to his fort and have to fight to the top to kill him, each floor getting closer and closer. The fights were fun and memorable.

Mists of Pandaria was amazing

FACTS. People hated on it while it lasted and now they all miss it. Mop had THE best, most exciting and balanced pvp scene ever in wow
It's understandable why many people disliked it, (mainly to talent board) but you are right, Mists was amazing.
@@exeterra4825 yes. Having to choose between 3 talents a whole 10 fricking levels, pruning classes, and dealing with overpowered monks made it totally the best PVP compared to previous expansions, what a joke.
@@kataangsucks so wrong
For me, who personally play a solitary experience by choice, Patch 5.1 Landfall actually made a huge difference as it was the patch which removed the raid group restrictions for old end-game content, as it id away with the need to be in a raid group to even enter the raid in the first place. This opened up so much for me because I could finally see what a lot of those old content raids looked like as I finally wrapped up storylines I had lingering in the quest log since back in TBC.
This made me feel better about saying mists is my favorite expansion of all time
Alot of people are there with you dude plenty of my guildies love MoP
Wotlk my favo still but mop was my 2th pick not wrong but killing lich king was still the best experience I've ever had.
I think asmon is wrong for the b.

It is so wonderful
Mists was objectively a good expansion. People didn't like the theme but mechanically and content-wise MoP was stacked.

Everyone hates dungeon finder, im just over here remembering how many dungeons I never saw, how much lore I missed because I couldnt find a group to run a dungeon with. After dungeon finder came out I was able to reroll and see all of this missed content.
11:19 - Ive never agreed with Mcconnell so much in my entire life until this statement LUL
Trial of the crusader gave us lord jarraxxus, and that's all I need from it. YOU FACE JARRAXXUS, EREDAR LORD OF THE BURNING LEGION
Honestly Cataclysm deserves such justice. People think its AWFUL because Dragon Soul was boring and lasted for a long time, but that doesnt define the entire expansion....

I honestly spent so much time playing private server Vanilla > TBC > WotLK after Cata because I enjoyed the old talents.
Cata 5man heroic dungeons were amazing. It forged me into the tank I am today.

This is like when people say Fallout 4 was good bc "it looks better than New Vegas"
Agreed, played since BC and Ulduar and ICC were the rust raids that ever got me genuinely excited. Ulduar is better but ICC was definitely a runner up

Yeah that’s more of the problem of the “players now” too. Min maxing is the only acceptable solution and games like WoW rewards that Behavior
Yeah it happens in M+ too. I have been kicked from +15s before they start for playing Outlaw over Sub because Sub is the MDI meta despite +15s being easy and not needing meta specs at all
@@Khranok my point exactly. It’s not a “healthy system” for players are generally only rewards toxicity. League of Legends was the same way for me

This is just two overgrown children screaching at each other. Beautiful

Firelands bored the pants off me after a month. as I didn't watch any vids on it and jumped right in and hardly messed up any mechanics. it did not get harder.
The 5mans were not as interesting as even the prior ones.

So, ive done the math.
Lets give each patch a number of points, depending on its rank (S: 3; A: 2; B: 1; C: -1; D: -2; F: -3), add them up together, then average them out to determine the ranking of each addon:
BC: 3+3+2+1-3 = 6/5 = 1.2
WotLk: 3+1-1-3 = 0
Cata: 3+3-1-3 = 2/4 = 0.5
MoP: 3+3+3-1-2 = 6/5 = 1.2
WoD: 2-3-1 = -2/3 = -0.67
Legion: 1+2+3+3 = 9/4 = 2.25
BfA: -3-1+3-2 = -3/4 = -0.75
This leaves us with this final ranking:
Legion > BC = MoP > Cata > Wrath > WoD > BfA

The raids were brilliant and challenging. And yes, the 5 man dungeons were varied and HARD! Completing anyone of them gave you a true sense of accomplishment. Too bad Blizz caved to the cry babies and nerfed things after a short time :(
