- A few months ago we opened a cafe in Kuching, Malaysia. We offer delicious native jungle food from the Bidayuh Tribe of Sarawak. Our dishes range from Ayam Pansuh (bamboo chicken) to Sup Ikan Salai (smoked fish soup), from Midin (local ferns) to Tempoyak Goreng (fried fermented Durian)
JAK MA'AN translates to: "Come Eat"
Our Cafe is located at 85 Ewe Hai Street, Kuching (also known as Carpenter Street).

I already dined at your restaurant 3 times but didn't have the chance to meet u Nick. I'm a bidayuh and i have to say that the foods are what i used to have at my parent's house.

@@GlobalGibbon will do Nick. I got to give compliments on the coffee. It's rich, tastes like what u drink from Starbucks, really different from any regular kopitiam. If i come over next time, can i request a little bit more of sugar syrup.

Had the chance to dine in your restaurant last month while I was in Kuching. The food were amazing but too bad can't try more dishes as a solo traveller. Too bad the Gibbon shop was closed during weekend and didn't get to meet you, but congratulations on your new shop

Good to see you Nick! Thanks for the update, the new restaurant looks impressive and inviting! Outdoor folding tables are a great feature. Might I suggest you go a little slower on the selfie pans, sitting up-close to a large screen I about fell out of my chair.

@@GlobalGibbon Thanks, it's not the camera distance from your face, but rather the camera rolling like an F-16. (1:55). Slowing the camera movements down a bit gives a time to take it all in.

Hi Nick. Enjoyed your video (as I have always enjoyed your past videos). I tried to find the menu on Google, but was disappointed that information on Jak Ma'an is only available on Facebook. As an ol' timer, I am not on Facebook. Will it be posted on the web some time? I am planning a trip to Kuching sometime in December or January and is hoping to pop by.
Hey! Our menu is also available on Google Maps. Just search JAK MA’AN and you should be able to find everything on Google!

Looks like a beautiful place with delicious food. When I come to Kuching, will definitely try to find your restaurant. But, do we have a choice of having the food served on regular ceramic platters? The bark baskets are a nice touch but they seem unhygienic.
Good question. We pride ourselves in using the traditional Tipakuah. We regularly get new ones in and we make sure they are cleaned properly. If you prefer to be served on ceramic plates, you can request that from the staff, no problem!
To make it more authenticly Bidayuh,rice should be come in 'dowon buan' packing.

All the food is Non Pork! So Muslim Friendly. We do serve alcohol, but this is served in different glasses.
