    I believe Garth Brooks was the start of the bad country music we have today.

    • @2packs4sure
      @2packs4sure  8 років тому +9

      Nah,, Peggy, it started LONG before Garth. The 70's really.
      It's hard to blame ANYONE because what they ALL wanted was to sell records and be successful and if that meant hard country, country rock, pop country, straight pop with a splash of steel,,, whatever... They tried it.
      All those hard country guys tried some countryfied rock stuff in the 50's when Elvis was eating their lunch.
      Webb Pierce, George Jones, even Ernest did a few.
      Some of that stuff is great by the way..
      If Ernest Tubb or George Jones or Kitty Wells could have held their heads at an angle or found a little trick in their vocals and figured out a way to sing a smoooth country pop ballad like Eddy Arnold or Ray Price and sold MILLIONS and MILLIONS of records in the 60's and 70's and got filthy rich like those guys did without all the touring and hole in the wall joints they had to play they would have AT LEAST thought about it... Who could blame them.
      Knowing E.T. he probably would have passed cause he was pure country and a man of great integrity,, but,,, that scenario i laid out and all the money it would have meant to those performers ,,, that would be tough for anyone to resist.
      Even E.T.
      We'll never know.
      Of course back to reality,, there was NO WAY an E.T., Webb Pierce, Kitty Wells, or George Jones could do what Ray Price did. They were just too country and there was no hiding it.
      Thank God.
      Having said all that, Garth had an amazing voice and i never liked him, talented guy and all, just not for me.

    • @webbjr37
      @webbjr37 8 років тому +1

      Agree, money can tempt most anyone, and ET did try for the larger audience at least once,(House Of Glass) we all are to blame for Country going Pop as we supported it, and as you said some of it was great, Ray, Marty,Faron,Eddy, & even Ferlin Huskie all did the Poppy stuff great.Thanks

    • @2packs4sure
      @2packs4sure  8 років тому +3

      ET tried it a few times but mainly it was because Skeeter Davis who was touring with him in the mid to late 50's talked him into it.
      She LOVED rock and roll and knew it well, ET would just like the song for what it was and tried em' out.

    I had no idea that Ernest Tubb recorded popcountry, i thought he was the only one of all the country legends of the 1950s that never recorded a popcountry song. This makes me so disappointed...

    • @2packs4sure
      @2packs4sure  7 років тому +4

      Well, ET would have preferred to cut records and keep the sound the way he had it in the 40's FOREVER, that was what he really loved. Simple, straight country Jimmie Rodgers style,,,,,,,, that was his thing.
      I'm sure Decca records through Owen Bradley pushed him in those directions and they were ultimately his boss if he wanted to make records especially in the late 60's when he was well past his prime as a seller of records.
      So don't be disappointed in ET,,,,,,,,,,, AND ,,,,,, he cut a few pop"ish" sides in the late 50's - early 60's too during the Elvis years mainly because Skeeter Davis talked him into it. Like this, ua-cam.com/video/hYZs_t9FqFY/v-deo.html ~ I love it by the way.
      BUT,
      Just remember that 98% of ALL his output from 1936 -1982,,,,,, OVER 800,,,, I repeat,,,,, OVER EIGHT HUNDRED SIDES,,,,,,, were straight country.
      Around 700 of those plus or minus, were for Decca.
      It may be 99%, 800 straight country songs recorded and "maybe" 20 semi pop sides in there....
      I suck at math and I don't know the actual # of popcountry sides he cut but it's a low #...........
      The defense rests.................
