This guy has done it properly, focused in the right places. Seats, steering wheel, tyres, brakes and not too much power but enough to enjoy the sound. I reckon I'd thrash this thing 24/7 if I owned it
They’ll take the thrashing as well! Although the hydraulic tappets always end up sticking and making a racket on the 16v’s... also had a 1.4 16v one shoot a spark plug clean out the engine into the bonnet, was fine though just had to get a thread insert fitted cause it took the threads with it.
@@ClaytonJoness damn clayton! Don't you have instagram or something? I too have a little 1.6 16v polo, with tuned length headers, exhaust, remap, induction, but yours is on point!
I'd agree. I used to own a Peugeot 107 which weighed around 800kg. Fun little car to drive even though it had a 1 litre petrol engine. I now have a fiesta mk6 zetec s diesel which may be fun to go around corners for its ST suspension setup but I still debate if my Peugeot City car was more fun to drive. Engine also I'd say is another factor. The 3 cylinder 1 litre petrol was more better to listen to than the tractor sound I hear in my current diesel.
Lupos/Arosa’s aren’t actually that light at all for their size, and their centre of gravity is quite high because they’re built to take a roll properly (think someone one the forums survived rolling one off a motorway at about 120mph). The GTIs actually have thinner windows to try to bring the COG down a bit, as well as aluminium doors/tailgates/bonnets... Still heavier than a saxo VTR/VTS though, and that’s why they never sold well, boy racers didn’t care that their saxo was made of biscuit tins and would probably crush them to death in a crash, they just wanted to go fast for as little money as possible.
I currently drive a VW Polo with 60 hp, it weights about 950 kilos.. Its fun, atleast on flatland. As soon as tge street goes up a little bit its over.. =D
There loads of ppl trying to make money from UA-cam doing car shows. First person I’ve seen that knows a bit about cars and don’t just chat shit to make time up. Well done mate
What a great presenter, a lot of the YT car reviewers seem to specialise in being smug, punchable bores but this guy is great! A Lupo GTI owner here hence why I found this video. Great stuff!
Had a new Lupo GTI in 2002 and it cost me 12k ...... still one of my favourite cars of all time. Fast forward to 2019 and I'm rocking a MK8 ST-Line with 172hp. These type cars have always been the car of my choice, never had a car over 200hp but have driven a RS4 with 444hp and still prefer the more fun in the lower horse power cars..... power and speed is not the important part of driving pleasure.
What an epic little car. Props to who ever built that they have improved every aspect rather than wreaking it. Fantastic presentation and driving skills as always. Keep it up!
I keep coming back to this video. Really enjoyed it, and really jealous you guys got the Lupo GTI in Europe. Would love to have one here in the states.
Another car to consider alongside the Lupo GTI and the Twingo 133 is the Suzuki Swift Sport. The pre facelift is a 1.6 16v with 125bhp and a 5 speed box, the facelift is a reworked version of the same 1.6 16v engine with 135bhp and a 6 speed box. Can pick up decent pre facelifts for £1500 as well, chuck a few quid at it to upgrade the discs and pads along with some suspension mods and they are very capable around a track for not a lot of money
If this geezer doesn't become a top gear presenter I will be very disappointed ,,he is a capable driver that would show llf Ricky a few skills he is not half the driver of saucy Sid !!!!
Sid, your vids are by far the best of the currently trending stuff coming from the UK right now. I'll tell you why: you're clearly smart, you've got a good command of the English language - this is key for me - and you're very articulate. Again Mr. Harris comes to mind, although I appreciate we're all individuals. Keep it up man, you're a 'gentlemen's' car reviewer :). love to see you do some reviews of some punchy diesels, like the 335d for example.
Loving your videos Sid. Just good solid car review content and not at all ,"look at me everyone, I'm doing this and that and the other" like many UA-camrs. It's all about the cars.
In 20yrs, I reckon the Up! GTI will be lauded as being underrated, too. It doesn't quite fit now because people are expecting a performance car and getting a pumped up city car. It is great fun though and is much more affordable than the Lupo was in its day (where many people probably saved their pennies and just went all out on the Golf GTI)
Such a sick car, got a 1.0 Arosa shitter atm but would absolutely love to upgrade to one of these in the near future. Definitely done the build right compared to the stanced out ones you see
Nice to see someone modify a car and not just chase big power numbers. Yes people have put 1.8T engines in these with circa 300bhp. But I bet this car would lap a track quicker.
2:25 - are the tyres uni-directional? Kinda looks like they're on the wrong way...so in rain they'd push water to the inside of the tyre rather than the outside..? Either way, stunning car. I had a 1.4 back in the day, Weitec coilovers and ATS Classics...the only car i truly miss..
Great cars had one brand new in 2002 got another one in2019 so glad I did still can pick up usable ones cheap enough but definitely ditch standard suspension also got a tdi sport and an up gti for day-to-day driving each one has its own merits wouldn't mind another twingo too
I know it’s not the same but I had this on Grand Tourismo 4. About 190 hp , proper sorted and could go round the ‘ring sub ten minutes. GT4 came with Mac F1 dlc but I just used the LupoGTi .
You should really try our a Vauxhall Adam S (if they have the S in the UK that is) With the Recaro seats it's quite a fun car on the roads like you drove it. I've only been in one as a passenger for insurance reasons (of course) but my friend knew he car and roads so that made it possible to push the car. It's a great experience and a sort of hidden gem, the Adam is getting discontinued soon actually so they will become a rarity...
I really thinking about to buy 1 off this little funny guy's 😆👍cool Video. The cool thing is, you don't see that cars not on every single corner it's a cool fun car 👍👍👍❤️
I love my pug 206 180 but tell u what wouldn't wanna mess with that but if love to own that one of best modified cars I've seen fair play lad tastefully modded
I have one of these. The rear seats weigh very little so removing them does not make a lot of difference appart from it looks racy. Mine is basically standard but with a lightened flywheel and quick shift. Where I live are lots and lots of sleeping policeman so a lowering kit would not be practical as It grounds on the standard setup.
This guy has done it properly, focused in the right places. Seats, steering wheel, tyres, brakes and not too much power but enough to enjoy the sound. I reckon I'd thrash this thing 24/7 if I owned it
Cheers man, yeah it gets thrashed every time i drive it😂
He’s done a great build on this 100%....you should see his brothers mk4 r36 that’s a monster as well 💪🏻
They’ll take the thrashing as well! Although the hydraulic tappets always end up sticking and making a racket on the 16v’s... also had a 1.4 16v one shoot a spark plug clean out the engine into the bonnet, was fine though just had to get a thread insert fitted cause it took the threads with it.
Its is big power for that light car
@@ClaytonJoness damn clayton! Don't you have instagram or something? I too have a little 1.6 16v polo, with tuned length headers, exhaust, remap, induction, but yours is on point!

I agree, even driving a 1.0 lupo on £300 coilovers, pollybushed and barely any interior with decent tyres was the funnest I've ever had in a fwd
I have Suzuki swift only 95 hp but is fun to drive and is very fast because if so light

This is the best video you've produced in my opinion.
Great, now I want one.. Super clean Lupo!
get one ex cupra r owner and i love mine
Ben_Cupra280 buy one, it looks super cool
Sick spec, I had one of these around 15 years ago as my first car and loved it, it was a black 5 speed car. Respect to the owner.
Naughty 🔥 Clayton you’ve done the lupo wonders mate!

I've never looked at a lupo and thought I want one of them until now, what a sick little car 👌
The gearbox on these is an absolute peach! Excellent little cars
love the sound, sounds like a honda. 4 cylinder all the wayyyy
What a blast this thing must be😉🇺🇸
very capable cars with a few mods. owners done well and his brother got a cool car aswell

It's like a German Clio 182 Trophy.
Thats a great comparison actually
Doubt it comes close tbh.
BluPrinTAutosport You’d be surprised, setting similar lap times to 172/182’s
The Lupo is the German Twingo in my eyes, though this one could probably take on a 172 quite happily
Standard vs standard, 182 trophy would smash it. Modified the clio would abbliterate it.
Okay this is officially my go to 'car review channel'
yes please!! lovely intake noise indeed
That looks like real fun . tasteful mods too 👍
Checked my notifications all day long for your video :)) Such a driver's car. Good job, Mr. Sid and good job,Clayton!
Props to Clayton...that’s a really cool classy modded lupo 👍🏻 I love the sound too
these are such wicked little cars ! Great video dude.
Loving your videos Sid. Just good solid car review content and not at all ,"look at me everyone, I'm doing this and that and the other" like many UA-camrs. It's all about the cars.
What a weapon. Same pole position seats as the Z4MC I drove the other week

wow, great little go cart, and a great host that actually knows how to drive properly, liked the video and subscribed

Steven Thomson Exactly this, 300bhp would be far too much power👍🏼
1.8t is a dull dull engine, nothing compared to a barky revvy na engine
@@matteightytwo I couldn't agree more. They sound boring and as standard don't even feel like they have boost.
They're solid, they're robust, I personally did 100k miles in one, we use one for track days now, but they're missing soul unfortunately
VW Lupo, Renault twingo 133 and Suzuki swift sport are my favourite old school formulated hot hatches
I can only imagine the excitement driving this lil thing.great video lad
i wish we had these in vegas, i drove one in prishtina and it was fun. Love your review though man! keep up the great work
Pro vid' dude, really easy to watch, and informative.
This guy knows what he’s saying. Man I’m impressed.
That v w Lupo g t I
Sounds flipping awesome 👍👍
The rivals have rot away except a few while vw lives on
Ohhh, I love it. It's pure fun car ❤️
Great fun car and video. You are a great presenter too so I subbed. Well done mate :)
awesome little machine. :-) Engine seems so rhoarty and revy. Congrats and respect to the owner.
Only just discovered this channel, but you sir have a lot of potential :)
Wicked bit of fun. Nice one Siddy boy.
Looking at this makes us want to get our ABF Mk2 Golf completed, the Lupo has been impressive since day one, VW’s tough little baby
Awesome video, great little car also. Pretty much the same handling mods as my Lupo Track Toy and that's a tonne of fun too
Great little car what great fun. Thumbs up.
Try and find a Panda 100hp or a Suzuki Swift Sport!
I had an original one that I took to the Nordschleife twice. Great fun.
Proper content as usual 🤙🏼
Awesome video man, didn't know much about these but they seem like a really track car
Pls do a Twingo 133 video. Looking to get one this year
Oh yes! And maybe if he could get his hands on a Clio williams to see where they came from... (been in a rally-prepped one and that was amazing!)
What exhaust is this exactly?? Sounds so nice! Not so hardcore metallic like the Bastuck in my opinion
Its a bit of a mix match, Custom manifold decat with a Janspeed catback👍🏼
2:25 - are the tyres uni-directional? Kinda looks like they're on the wrong way...so in rain they'd push water to the inside of the tyre rather than the outside..?
Either way, stunning car. I had a 1.4 back in the day, Weitec coilovers and ATS Classics...the only car i truly miss..
James Underhill That just how Rainsports are, confuses everyone
Nice vid as usual mate🔥

Yes!! More cars like this 👍👍
I just wanna say, this car is soooo cute!
My Arosa has 50 and i treat it like a go kart, and you know what, it loves it
I love the way this lad talks about when 106 gti's and saxo vts's came out. He probably wasn't even born.
I was a toddler.
But I’ve driven both tho 😈
Must have watched this video about 10 times 😂 really want one of these in raven blue, either that or a audi s3 8l
Better shift then and s2000? I thought that was impossible
"than a S2000"
“than an S2000”
I have a quick shift on mine and it is even better.
Cool video! I'd love to see a review of the ep3 type-r also.
1:20pm Me: youtube suggest video on a lupo to a American
1:30 pm me: how To import cars from Europe to the US
Wait till the car is at least 25 years old 😂 and a Peugeot 106 GTi would be better, lighter and faster and obviously Peugeot heritage
@@tommcmahon14 Too bad the Peugeot has rusted away in 25 years!, the Lupo GTi will still be here!!
