This is definitely a budget version of the victory lap raceway from 1988. I purchased victory lap raceway off eBay 4 years ago and I love it to bits. The pit lane road plates are my favourite road plates ever. I also own victory cup racers from 1993. I think pit stop crew also from 1987 is a great add on to motor speedway. I’d love to own this, pit stop crew and fast track finish from 1996. Late 80s to the mid 90s is definitely my favourite era of LEGO town and the race is probably my favourite sub theme from that era
Funny you reviewed a set I bought this summer opened box but all content new and sealed bags etc. Never owned it back in 1987 but sure remember it from catalogue etc. Love the 80ies.
I once also noticed, that the "Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Bar Arm Up" (4623) pieces look slightly different than regular plates, so I thought it may be a different material. Kind of similar as with the "Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Ladder" (4175) pieces...
This is a classic - I got this one for Christmas sometime in the late 80s! I have it still - complete! :-D It's amazing what could be done with 185 pieces back then. I love how they suggested other building ideas right on the box - that's awesome! Great set and thanks for sharing. PS: Didn't catch the grey handle right away, but someone in the comments did :-D
Hmmm, are the pants on the race control mini fig dark gray? They should be light gray (can’t tell in the video). And unfortunately the box insert is the wrong one. The box insert for this looks like the ones from the 70’s sets with the thick sides (if that makes any sense). I got this set last year shortly after I got the Victory Lap Raceway (which is an AWESOME set).
They are the correct one but it is good to point those out. These are left waving flags. There also right waving flags. It’s one of those subtle differences. But this is just I positioned different that one of the pictures
The missing piece is hotdog, that goes with ketchup
Do love these vintage sets. Wish City would do sets like this now.

I’m pretty sure I had this set growing up so this video is a treat for me so thank you! I wish sets these days came with specialised road plates.

Ketchup? Haha I thought it was a fire extinguisher
It’s always ketchup in my world - lol
The blue guy's left hand is upside down. When I'm searching figs on Brickset it triggers me when the hands of the fig are all outta whack. haha
My question to you is what is upside down? They cannot hold certain utensils when the come as from the factory.
Most surprising thing to me - according to that price tag - there were Target stores in 1987
I like LEGOLAND, they have alot of obstacles course and different rides! This set do represent LEGOLAND!
I had this as a kid. I really wanted the bigger version (set 6395) but this is the one I ended up with. It was still a lot of fun.

Hey! I had this set. Got it from a yardsale for $5.
I think it is one of the awning parts, the end close to the repair area.
Find the wrong piece or pieces
Was it the lever on the camera?
Controller guy got wrong hairpiece.
Is it the window from the tower?
@@penfold7800 I was afraid I missed more. You are right though- that hair piece is wrong.
great video
I just acquired this set. My hook pieces are an odd blue color as well.
The blues have the blues

Almost thought it was mario kart in the thumbnail! 😆
Lol
Great set. One of my first. Still have and need to rebuild. 😎🌊☀️
Also meant to say that this review was a fun watch! I can't figure out which piece is not correct without cheating and going to the instructions. 😆
Cool set, I see it as an smaller version of Victory Lap Raceway set.
I've have seen part 4623 (Plate 1 x 2 with Arm) in blue often in bad shape, where the blue is faded. Maybe it was a wrong early batch?
That’s very likely.

That makes sense. Should it be yellow?
It’s white, I’ll send pic via FB.
And the base plate STILL doesn’t fit! lol
I had this set. :3
hehe nice :)
Had this set
is it the wrong flags? they wave in the opposite direction to the picture on the box?

@@BrickTsar I always have to look about 10 times to check I have the right flags and probably still end up with the wrong ones!
Think the camera man is the best part
