I have never used any opiates till I became a quadriplegic and found Subutex for severe burning in the lower extremities, uncontrollable spasms of my body and of course pain. Been trying to taper but symptoms slowly start taking over again. Been on them for about 13 years. But the guilt and anxiety of being on them make me feel like an addict. I think I could make it without them but the withdrawals are unbearable. Am I an addict??? Very concerned. !!!
You know I have to say as I’m watching the detox video for methamphetamine (me being a former addict and avid psychology and psychiatry buff) I have to say I am disheartened by societal reactions to the drug as well as those presented by a professional. Those things mentioned about what the drug does to people are true. It is incredibly addictive yes. But it has got a stigma attached to it. Alcohol in my mind still does far more damage to the human body and harm to innocent people and destroys relationships based on the sheer gaba disruption. I am so tired of this illusion people have with the drug as if it’s the end all be all of addiction, in law and society. A lot of the serious acute effects of meth are very recoverable for most (minus cravings). I hated being pinpointed in rehab as the pinnacle of addiction by my peers. What a false narrative and professionals in my opinion need to start addressing this in comparison to other acute SUDs. There really isn’t an end all be all drug of crazy proportion when you reach a certain stage. They really all are.

How would someone come of methadone if they have been on it for 22 years would it be dangerous if the person was not well suffering with copd and diabetes type 2?
