With missing a beat: "Preaching". Yes! Yes! Yes! So said. Just finished Lloyd Jones' Preaching and Preacher and currently reading Stott's The Preacher's Portrait. Powerful!
A Spirit-filled preacher facing a Spirit-filled Audience! That is powerful! There will be a spiritual chemistry you cannot find in any other form of communication.
You are so deceived by him He was a pedarastic sadist Read between lines of what he says about the cross and his fixation around young men Bad but it will perish with him
Impressed with the way he wrestled every word of God before preaching, and amazed that he even composed his sermon in his dreams. Worth to learn from him.
Yesterday I was talking in a prison, for the second time. Today I was sat here thinking about how I can be of better usage to Jesus and the guys hearing what I say then out of the blue ( 🙏) this popped up here for me to listen to.
I found this video I believe by God's providence. As I am reminded that I am lazy, and need to see the importance of teaching. How can I defeat my flesh and see God's purposes without being enveloped in His word. How wonderful it is to have elders like John Stott to guide young preachers with timeless advice.
Interesting listen I thought it was much older. Sept 2016 a month before I moved from Northern MN to Southern California Orange County. On a faith journey to a Purpose Driven Church conference. Learned so much about the American Church in the last 10 years. Thanks @treyvancamp
Being “Holy Spirit” filled is an imperative life support MUST in order to preach in the modern of today [ October 2020 ] with the “ANCIENT of DAYS” speaking through His Holy Scriptures from of old ✝️
It's by the Holy Spirit & that's where we get a Message & It's called the Message of the Hour, & if it's anything else, then it's us that's doing it & not the Holy Spirit, Thank You My Jesus!!! That's why God said that mankind will forsake You, but God will never leave You nor forsake You, that's His Word, not ours, We are to be His Disciples, & His Ambassadors in Christ Jesus!!!
It amazes me how many young preachers have new ideas but when I see them years later I see the results of their new ideas. Hebrews 13:7 says, "Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith." That kind of person is not a new Christian.
Honest question here. Did Jesus do expositional teaching/preaching? Did Charles Spurgeon? Reading men during the great awakening and their sermons it doesn't seem like they did expositional teaching either? It seems like their messages were directed by whatever the Spirit laid on their heart. They would take one verse and expound upon it but I didn't see them going through the Bible verse by verse rather everything centered around the gospel and speaking under the influence of the Spirit and whatever spiritual verse/teaching He put on their hearts. I think expositional teaching is good but I was just thinking that I don't see Jesus, The Apostles or some of the great men of the past going through say a book verse by verse. It rather seems like the gospel message and story was the focus and center and they would pull many verses from all over the Bible. For instance I have an 1840 copy of Village Discourses by John Cennick, a great awakening Calvinist Methodist, and he would simply choose one verse and relate it to the gospel and then choose another verse from another place in scripture and do the same. Speaking on not mixing two types of fabric on ones garment he draw a parallel between mixing the covenant of our own works with the garment of Christs righteousness which is prohibited and no gospel at all. It seems like the gospel story and message was the focus rather then an academic breakdown of the text verse by verse. Again not saying that is bad but was just wondering why expositional teaching wasn't used more Jesus, His Apostles and even men of the past like George Whitefield, John Wesley, Charles Spurgeon etc. Anyways, hope you have a blessed day!
And maybe I'm not understanding what expositional preaching is. I'm not seminarian like Stott or many of you seasoned shepards on here. Just a question I ask :)
Advice for Preachers... The individual who has put his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior is in personal fellowship with Him all the time. Jeremiah 23:23 The problem with God is not that He's so far away that we can't see Him. Rather, He is so close that we overlook Him. That means, you can have an Conversation with GOD anytime anywhere . The eternal purpose of God in Jesus Christ is to give us this new relationship with God (John 3:16; 6:37, 39; 2 Corinthians 5:14-21). 1Corinthians 3:16-20 Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple. Not only will you need this information for yourself, but you will want to share this with others Who To Believe, GOD or Your Preacher ?
I am not a big fan of lordship salvation theology and in fact lean more to the free grace side of the lordship salvation debate (though not completely). But if I may pick 2 from the lordship camp that I like, it would be John Stott and Martyn Lloyd Jones.
It's a matter of respecting the house of God we have more respect every where else but when It comes to the House of God people think that any and everything goes.
We are only called to preach what Jesus preached nothing else nothing more! But most of the time preachers preach anything but what Jesus said which is a accursed situation for the church.
A preacher, young or old should always make sure that he lives according to what he preaches!!! Otherwise he is a hypocrite and bears the Lord's name in vain.
I want to read the Bible more deeply and thoughtfully after hearing John Stott here. Thanks sir.
The text means what the author meant! What a gem! context, context, context.
Thank you. More of John Stott please folks. ❤🙏🇿🇦

Biblical preaching.amen !!!!!!!!!!!!
Every sermon must be a biblical exposition! Biblical preaching must be recaptured
Fantastic preacher of the likes of Watchman Nee in our twenty first century.
Before you study and preach a text we need to read it so many times until we dream it, then it must be hand writed.
Sorry my bad english.
Amen.🙏
On rend grâce à Dieu pour votre vie et votre ministère

Perhaps the last best was Spurgeon
Discuss among yourselves
Who is the man of God ? Until understand the entire Bible . Jesus Christ is truly man of God He's teachings
Drugged by the TV? Imagine if he were still alive what he would say about the drugging of the computer and I Phone.
don’t know many Spirit filled preachers. most are apostate and no life in them. plenty false preachers and strange fire snake oil preachers though.
We are only called to preach what Jesus preached nothing else nothing more! But most of the time preachers preach anything but what Jesus said which is a accursed situation for the church.
Preachers expositions have corrupted the truth when guided by intellect and not the holy spirit.
