    I think grading gold it worth it almost regardless of the outcome since it certifies authenticity for easier resale.

    The incuse gold coins are toughies as they don't have a rim to protect the fields. The 1911 has overall lustre, even on the cheek of the Indian, so I would give it an MS64. The 1914D has strange die deterioration around the edges. However looks mint stateish. The 1909D looks MS62-3. The 1881 is cleaned. UNC details. For other readers of this comment, if lines go right to edge of devices and are raised, that is die polishing. If they don't make it to the device edges and are incuse, then polishing. Whether incuse or raised, is sometimes difficult to determine with one eye and no 3D vision, but a careful catching of the light, will determine if raised or not.

    If I see any 2.5 Indians I remember a video from a grading service saying 25% of those submitted are fake
    😢😢😢. I know different video. Great content. I didn't see the scratches at first. So u showed again.

    Do coin dealers offer a "pre-grade" service so that a novice can avoid sending coins for grading that are cleaned?

    • @TheCoinGeek
      @TheCoinGeek  4 роки тому

      Most dealers will offer their advise and opinion of a grade if you show them coins you are considering sending in.

    Indian Heads are the only US coins of its kind.It can be hard to tell the difference between AU and MS,scratches in the fields?They kinda defy the laws of grading

    I really love your judgment in coins and I enjoy the way you take your time to explain the details of the coin.I hope you get an MS grade but I think an AU58 is the likely grades for at least 2 of them.I'm really pulling for you to get higher grades.Good luck my friend.

      @@JuanOrtiz-si6tm that would be nice but I am very horrible at grading small coins and gold coins at that. I was just putting my 2.5 cents in...lol. we shall see. I see maybe 1 of the 2.5 cents that could aquire a ms 62....but idk. For Ben's sake I hope it does!

      These coins are hard to grade - even experienced collectors who don't collect these coins can easily misgrade them. Thanks!

    If silver spot hits, say, $40 and continues up, what impact will that have on the coin market, especially Morgan's...most Morgan's MS63 and lower, can be had for under $40...does it back all the prices up?? Just curious to your opinion
    Thanks

    I dont know how you were able to see where the coin was cleaned? Its comparable to when a wine taster says they taste apple and chocolate and a hint of leather... where does that come from?

  • @typeviic1
    @typeviic1 4 роки тому +1

    Making the grade is never my worry. Coming back "cleaned" is what I worry about.

    hi ben,
    the lines you described with the 81 half eagle, aren't there circulatory lines which appear that way as well? what is the difference between circulatory hairlines and cleaning hairlines? i know for certain that on certified, circulated coins, that there are circulation hairlines that look similar to that, perhaps a bit more spread out and not so tight, however.
    cheers man! good luck on the coins

    Gold the hardest for me to grade and i even worked at a coin shop for a summer. My best eye was for bu Washington and walking liberty halves. Buffalo nickels were my main specialty. Good luck.on the gold 1 or 2 of those maybe unc cleaned.

    Nice instruction on the 1881 $5 showing the cleaning. Good to know what to watch for. Really need some practice in picking of the flow of the luster as the Coin is rotated on the incuse Indian design
