I’ve got a t27 which is great but when you mow up thick leaves, go slow and use 1/3 to 1/2 of the deck width. You will find that’s quicker than blowing, mulching and double handling the leaves. The bin alarm is a must. When mine goes off you need to stop immediately but leave blades running for about 5 seconds to clear the blower tube.
The walker mower is a great idea but hopeless in wet weather , for the price they should work better, I sold mind due to clogging wet grass , they need a belt to carry grass to catcher not a blower, take a look at Husky
Its great, no spray saves time blowing grass spray and clean up on job site. I have the clog problem as well. I assumed it was wet grass clumping but even dry grass does. It takes a lot of time to unclog it several times. I raise the deck. Clean out deck shoot, leave back box up, run motor in park, cut on blades in to blow out schute tube. But deck shoot always gets clogged quickly.
Yes, leaves will catch fire, this has happened more than once, Walker sent out a protective horizonal plate, which I added, but still you have to be careful about doing dry leaves!
I have a 40 year old Walker and it still does a wonderful job. The previous owner was a lawn and garden service and his employees beat the crap out of it but I have fixed many things that they damaged. I have learned to listen for the change in sound when the box is filling up plus I reach around on the right side and try to lift the box. I have learned what it feels like when the box is nearly full of leaves or grass. I also only take half swaths when doing heavy leaves and raise the deck up higher than when mowing. Even though the deck is higher it still sucks the leaves up with no problem. I do not have the dump system that you have nor do I have the type of easy lift deck you have. As I said, mine is very old, It has the 16 horse cast iron Kohler and runs great for a 40 year old mower. I have had it for about 30 years now. She aint pretty but she sure knows how to dance.
The x blades for the walkers chops the grass and leaves and it will make less dumping and plus when its fall time and alot of leaves we take half swipes . But I really do love the walker just not the price lmao
Worked for a company and the walkers were ALWAYS in the shop. We spent more time on loaner mowers than the company mowers. I use Toro personally and havent had really any issues that were major. We just moved to a ranch to caretake and theres a brand new (residential) R21 Walker. 16 hours on it. I mowed for 10 minutes yesterday and it broke. They use a strut as a belt tensioner instead of a traditional spring. Strut is blow rendering the mower inoperable. I also spent 2 years working for a small engine shop/ mower dealer. We absolutely hated working on walkers so much to the point the owner today doesnt work on them at all. Too much labor time and most customers dont like the sticker shock when they come to pay the bill. He sends them down the road to the walker dealer. We didnt like working on them because of how tight they pack stuff and to do almost any engine work youve got to pull the motor. We saw gear box failures, collection system failures, electrical issues the most. The blades were also more expensive. The machines themselves cost more as an initial investment and due to the complexity of the design they cost a hell of a lot more in maintenance than say a typical style zero turn of good quality. This is my unique experience and everyones mileage will vary.
I find that turning into the leaves with the side of the deck cuts down on clogs because the blades get a better shot at crunching up the leaves before the reach the blower intake, only problem is the wheels might peel out the turf if you’re not careful but this can be avoided with practice. Another idea is when you’re sucking up leaves go a bit slower and leave the back of the hopper (bin) open so that they blow out and then suck them up after once they’re smaller.
Get the buzzer fixed and install the larger hole screen in the hopper or take the screen out all together. If your mower can't discharge it won't suck as well. Also replace your blower belt.
I get rid of the fill switch all together, it can contribute to clogging I had trouble keeping working any way. You can tell when you gone to far. I also check or monitor the air flow coming from the back of your box raise the spring flap a little when that air low stop your about ro stop up or already have. Install the discharge screen that allows more air to flow thru the catcher. Raise the front of the deck higher than the back, and if it clogs on me I sometimes just go ahead and mulch the leaves while it's clogged. I haven't tried reverse rotation deck yet I would think that would be a good choice for dense leaves.
Usually I find that if you’re going to fast and are trying to pick up a lot of debry that’s when it will clog up so I usually go slower and watch for the tell tale signs that it is clogging
Mulching first is fine and dandy but you have to spread them as well before you sweep them. It thins them out and allows them a time to dry out a bit before you hit them. So, when you use your mower, put your side discharge on, to thin them out. Most important is go slow. the machine has to have time to sweep, swallow, and then digest the leaves just like you do when you eat a salad. If you swallow whole you choke and going fast will do that to your bagging system.
You might try raising the deck to its highest setting, this will allow more air flow through the chute and should reduce clogging with more velocity into the hopper.
When it clogs up, instead of raising the deck and cleaning from underneath, use a blower to clear the clogs. Put the tip of the nozzle in the chute and easily unclog it.
For clogs I usually use my leaf blower and blow our the chute from bottom and top. Lift the front of the deck one notch. When your in the thick leaves go slower. I usually mulch with one Walker then Suck them up with the other Walker.
Kevin, Another suggestion for leaves is to lift the front of the deck up 1 or 2 holes on the adjustment. This seems to help. Also only take about 1/2 the deck when they is so much then come.back and make another pass with deck lower. I am glad you are happy eith your purchase.
The alarm is common, quick easy fix they're like $20 I always keep a spare they go out occasionally. As far as the fire, I've heard of many guys having that issue. I never have but that being said I blow my machines completely off after every lawn and that seems to help. I hated dealing with those clogs during leaf season. This year with the Versimow x blades, haven't had that once and you see the leaves I deal with. Can't wait to try in the Spring because I get that same clog in thick wet grass. I would mess with that lever. Mine doesn't pop out on either machine. There's adjustment bolts to them that hold tension inward. Glad you're enjoying it, they're a love/ hate machine but I'll never go back.
Ya gotta love a walker!....I have a 20 yr old MTD 48 ghs kubota diesel walker. Hour meter went at 800 hrs so no telling how many hours this thing has. All in all I’ve spent 2500 dollars in it this year. It was my wife’s grandpa’s so anyway. It done awesome all mowing season. Got into leaf season and it just wasn’t performing. It would clog every 5-10 minutes. I almost sent into the lake at one property! I was so frustrated. When I would flip the deck up to clean under and into the chute going to the blower I was feeling a piece of loose metal (on the chute from the deck to the blower there’s a piece of what I call flashing that’s about 1-2” thick around the house where it meets the blower. That piece of metal is just riveted on there. Probably due to its age it was just worn lose and wasn’t allowing the debris to get into the blower. Long story short put a new chute coming from the deck to the blower fan and it sucked harder than a hook on some mlk drive trying to make a buck! One thing I noticed helps to is to make sure the vents on the side of the deck stay clean too. They can come compacted and doesn’t allow the deck to breath or circulate as good. That and just keep the screen clean and keep your ground speed as fast as the conditions allow for. I’ve liked my walker this year but I really haven’t just loved it. It’s one of those tools I think you do need though. Cuts and striped like nothing else. But it’s slow and mud and isn’t worth a flip on any bit of slope. I want to add a 48” scag with clamshell I think to go along with my 61” cheetah 37 vanguard. I’m also planning to pick up the new exmark commercial 30 X series next year which is suppose to have the improved transmission and bigger engine. But a walker mower or an equivalent has it place no doubt. Guess you could say I have a love hate relationship with my walker. But like my dealer says can spend a little here an there on it or fork over 16-20k for a new one lol
I don’t have the burning issue on mine since it’s the diesel and the muffler is different. My beeper doesn’t work either. After I got it I noticed it was just unplugged. Plugged it up it beeped one time when it got full then haven’t heard it since. But with the diesel I can tell instantly when it’s full by the sound of the engine it was changed immediately and I’ve learnt to listen for it even with my head phones on

When I was in business doing leaf cleanup I would have someone first mow the yard right ahead of me with a mulching deck then the walker does the actual clean up. Both mowers being used at the same time works fast. I see on your video you have already figured this out .
That bar across the outlet is causing most of your trouble. You somehow need to streamline that like you would port and polish an old carburator but you need to maintain structural integrety as it looks like a link. Good luck
I don't know much about Walker's, but would Gator blades work on that, maybe help chopping them up a little better and easier to pass through the chute. But I see Country Side mentioned something about the X blades also.
I use a walker and when it clogs for me that usually means that the hopper is full, the best way to do it is use a blower on the chute from the deck to the blower in the machine then do what you were doing and run the blower with the hopper up
I have never had mine muffler smoke I as for the lrm make sure it has the paddle on it won't sound it a way fix as for 5he clog just go slower on the et levels or blow the leves around spread them out
Seems the muffler slots allow leaf debris to get behind the shield , perhaps a sheet metal shield add to the out side in an upside down L shape would help , or making the slots larger to allow the debris to escape the oven before flames happen .
As its been said the mower makes a more muffled sound when its about full. Try setting the front pins a few notches higher than the back pins for deep leaves then set them to the same height for a final cut. Also check out the versimow products. Defently look into getting the shredder blades and plug for the summer months.
I guess im asking randomly but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid lost my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Julian Coleman i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
On thicker layers of leaves I mulch first with gator blades then go over it with the bagger to pick up all I can, which is about 15 percent of the original volume of leaves.
Try having a new $14000 walker with the flames 😳. As far as clogging, I pitch my deck 1/4 to a 1/2 inch higher in the front. If mine clogs I turn it into a mulching deck, hit everything, unclog it, then hit everything again and it doesn’t clog. Love/hate machines
Your height adjuster handle problem is because the adjustment bolt and nut (located at bottom of handle) aren’t adjusted properly, not allowing slot pin at upper part of handle to fully drop into desired height slot.
Also depending on the age of the mower make sure you check the voltage regulator is relocated to the motor bay. If you don’t and the rear tails go flat you will rip it off
I hate this mower was one of the worse investments I ever made but I did sell it and bought a brand new Wright and bout a leaf sucker attachment but where I live in NY this particular machine gets beat up and cause a lot of problems might work well for others but I have no use for this machine EVER again but much success it’s whatever works for your set up but this machine I feel not worth the $$$ they want for them
I find that it's better to use half the deck instead of hitting the leaf piles head on, sort of like eating and apple when you lost your front teeth as a child. nibble at it
I run walker mowers myself for my lawn care business, and what I would say to do for the clogging so quickly issue would be to make sure you have proper tension on the pto belt as well as having correct engine rpms at full throttle. With the pto engaged at full throttle I believe the factory spec is 3700+-. 3900 no load. That should help, I use 48 decks and I think they can handle more with the wider debris opening and shoot.
Hi Moses ! I'm a Hall too, wonder if we have any kin ties. ? Where you from. Im in Oklahoma but Dads family are from N. Arkansas . Probably not but ya never know.
As far as it clogging up, if you have a bunch of leaves, your better off going slow or just blowing them. You should be able to notice a change in sound once the mower gets full. I have used walkers for years and also have an exmark ultra vac, the walker is by far a superior mower.
@@HFConstruction The video footage shows it to be the standard rotation deck. If it throws it straight into the tube it's standard rotation. In think areas we turn the blades off & use the deck as a plow to push the bulk of the leaves to the woods or truck loader. Often to get this process started you need to make the edges of these areas a little more dense with a back pack blower so that they won't go under the deck & will push up into a pile instead.
I do not have a walker but did have some thoughts. I would suggest cutting off the exhaust heat shield at the bend in the bottom. This would allow the leaves to fall out better. I would think. I also noticed that your leaves were not shreaded very well. Does walker offer mulching blades ?
So I bought a walker 42” this summer and it took some getting used too. But with the leafs I just raise my deck as high as it’ll go and suck up the deep leafs. Then after I do that I drop it down a notch or 2 and finish sucking up the stragglers and it does good! The clogging stuff sucks!!! Lol I just go slow and hope the leafs aren’t wet. And my walker doesn’t have the heat shield around the muffler so it doesn’t trap the leafs against the muffler. But like everyone else says it’s for sure a love hate relationship haha
I’ve got a t27 which is great but when you mow up thick leaves, go slow and use 1/3 to 1/2 of the deck width. You will find that’s quicker than blowing, mulching and double handling the leaves. I would use mulching blades and cross cut setup if possible
I solved the muffler fire problem by taking the front off the muffler cover.
It's a finish cut mower.... not really intended to suck leaves. The smallest debris can and will ruin your blower. We repair them all the time.
42" deck is great for getting into more gates and not clogging on heavy stuff
The walker mower is a great idea but hopeless in wet weather , for the price they should work better, I sold mind due to clogging wet grass , they need a belt to carry grass to catcher not a blower, take a look at Husky

Love my Walker
Randy at country side is who I would ask
He commented and told me what to do but thanks for the tip!
My number one tip to fix the alarm it’s a must. I’ve had three walkers over the years and love them.
My alarm broke.. I just start seeing clogs on ground to know it's full lol. It rides smoother when full too lol
Yes, leaves will catch fire, this has happened more than once, Walker sent out a protective horizonal plate, which I added, but still you have to be careful about doing dry leaves!
It's a finish cut mower, not intended for leaf pickup. Smallest debris can and will damage blower. Then you get a 800 dollar repair bill.

Also I made a 1” dowel with a 2” L bracket screwed to the end and it makes cleaning GHS at the mowing end a breeze.
What I do Kevin..is I mulch up first ..so i will go over the property once or twice then I begin to suck up ..helps tremendously with clogging . 👍👍

Tilt the front of deck 1 notch higher than the back. Helps keep leaves go thru the chute instead of clogging
fire/ fabricate a extrduded metal screen

how many hours did your walker mower have when you bought it
Not really sure because the hour meter doesn’t work.

That too
Awesome mower!!!!
Thanks man!

I raise my front deck as high as i can and the back deck at the 2.5" mark works grate
Kevin,

I will try the deck adjustment trick thanks for the information

Your height adjuster handle problem is because the adjustment bolt and nut (located at bottom of handle) aren’t adjusted properly, not allowing slot pin at upper part of handle to fully drop into desired height slot.
Next time use mulching blades it will help......

Slow down going through leaves and really tall grass. Your feeding it too quickly.
When leaves get really thick for us we just run a z mower with a mulch kit and run the walker behind it to suck up the mulching. Works quite well
I run walker mowers myself for my lawn care business, and what I would say to do for the clogging so quickly issue would be to make sure you have proper tension on the pto belt as well as having correct engine rpms at full throttle. With the pto engaged at full throttle I believe the factory spec is 3700+-. 3900 no load. That should help, I use 48 decks and I think they can handle more with the wider debris opening and shoot.
I will have to check that. I have kinda wondered if I was getting the right rpms when Mowing. I kinda feel like it might be low.
Hi Moses ! I'm a Hall too, wonder if we have any kin ties. ? Where you from. Im in Oklahoma but Dads family are from N. Arkansas . Probably not but ya never know.
My dad was born and raised on the farm where we live now. We were from Kansas I believe way back. Our family has been on the farm since like 36 or 37'
Just leave the deck clogged to mulch up everything first but unclog the rest. Then just give it another pass and it won’t clog.
I think I’m going to try using mulching blades and see if that helps.
As far as it clogging up, if you have a bunch of leaves, your better off going slow or just blowing them. You should be able to notice a change in sound once the mower gets full. I have used walkers for years and also have an exmark ultra vac, the walker is by far a superior mower.
Slowing down is one thing I have to start doing. It’s just hard because the walker already feels so slow compared to the SCAG.
Look into the fully bagging deck. That deck is the reverse rotation correct
Yes it’s a reverse rotation
They do have mulching blades, I think I’m going to try them out.
Would it be worth it to just put a bagging system on the Scag?
I have one of those side bags for my 36” and it fills up so fast it doesn’t feel like you can get much done before it’s full.
Good to know. I was going to get one for a 36” but think I’m just going to get the three bag system for the Ferris 61”. Everyone loves walker tho!
simply answer SCAG Bagging System
Does the bagging system work with the v1?
@@HFConstruction I think there was talk about them making kits to fit the old vrides
