Me watching acting like I can afford either
Me too
You can get anything you want to - if ya want it bad enough. ✌️
I don't see how anyone can justify getting either with the way the pandemic has messed up business.. Just people who have gas gear acquisition syndrome.. Lol
@@rezjrprodI think the local camera shop I bought mine from was quite happy that I was there to buy it.
Now is THE time for anyone who can to support local businesses.
@@tomdivittis2688 all fine with supporting local camera shops when it makes sense.. Supporting family first should be priority for everyone right now... Unless you have disposable income
Went with the R5 for multiple reasons - 1. Shutter Actuation Lifespan - 500K for R5 to 300K for R6; 2. Wifi - R5 has 5.0 GHz; 3. MP Sensor - R5 has 45mp v. the R6 20mp. At least for me, the 45mp gives the camera greater diversity; especially, for architecture, studio, landscape, or macro work; 4. EVF Resolution - R5 has 5.76m dot v. R6 3.68m; 5. Resale Value - Assume the R5 will give a greater return on investment. Looking forward to an R1.
I just LOVE your dead honest 'reality-checked' reviews and this one is no exception. You covered all the topics that needed to be discussed clearly and succinctly. thanks again for another piece of entertaining information. Now I only need to decide which of these Canon cameras I can't afford least!
Very very good ama Türkiye de hersey pahalı 🤑
Great video! I'm currently looking to upgrade from my aging 6D. This is really helping to solidify the decision to go with the R6. It looks like Canon has really stepped up to the plate to stay competitive in the mirrorless market. One thing that I truly love is the swing out back screen. That's a feature that I loved from my 60d as it helps with not only high and low angle shots but also with wedding candids. Nice to be able to get guests when they are camera unaware and in the moment of a wedding.
I was literally researching this topic this morning, you're a damn mind reader Jared
My preferred it provider have the R on sale, so I did some research and ended with R vs, and R5 vs R6 (here), and have not bought the R :)
I’m on a 6D and have been holding off for a long time. I think Jared sold me on the R6.
Thank you for this Jared and team!
Thank you for an excellent, detailed comparison. Very helpful.
The best comparison review on this, man!!! Love this guy … I just watched another comparison where the guy was talking about Finland for like 10 mins. Bruh, I’m here for cameras!
I like your humor and realism.
Video that I’ve been waiting for
Great video Jared. I still don't know which I'm going to pick.
Great video as always Jared !
Thanks for this video! I really wanted to see it and suggested it a few weeks back and was told there was no need for it..... sorry other commenter who shot me down 💁🏼♀️ Fro knows photo thought it was worth comparing for some of us! Thanks, Fro!
Thanks Jared! Great information.
I have the R6 and to be honest - I’m just watching the video because it’s so much fun. Love your videos .....greetz from 🇩🇪
Wie ist den die low light performance, habe z. Z. eine A9 und bin auf der Suche nach einer besseren stills cam. Was denkst du?
R5 is definitely a great camera I use it as my main body (EOS R is my backup). I only wish that Canon could implement a larger back screen. They could easily fit 3.5” with smaller bezels.
🤔 awesome video fro. Choosing which of these cameras to buy in 2021 is gonna be a tough one.
That's a quality content right here. Thanks for the detailed comparison.
that was truly a nice comparison of these 3 cool cameras
Well done! I've been shooting with the R6 since launch and haven't been disappointed. As a real estate photographer I shoot over a thousand houses a year and the low light in video and photo are amazing. Do you ever record externally with the atomos ninja v and if so what are your thoughts.
I don't usually comment but I wanted to say thank you for your awesome videos and this one especially. Was thinking which one I should save for and was on the fence for the R6. Would be nice though to see a comparison between the RP and R6.
Love your videos man.
Great job Jared, thank you

Great video Jared
This definitely helped... Thank you greatly
hey Jared love your vids I subscribed and liked video
Pretty sure I'm going to hang on to my EOS R until the prices start coming down on these. Not sure which one I would prefer whenever that happens though.
It's about time for this video
Thank you! This was great.
Such a GREAT video! I learned a lot and thank you for educating me about what to purchase. I am embarrassed to say that I am getting back into photography and still have Olympus E-1 and a Olympus E-10. I think I will go with the R6 now.
Excelent comparison, thanks
Wow! An amazing video!
Long but informative. Thanks
The video I was waiting for.... 3 months ago lol. Anyways on your R6 video it was what I needed, so I got the R6 a month ago and man... what a beast!!
Where is your real life R6 review? I love these videos
Will you do a user’s guide for R6?
Thank you Jared! Ur the Best!
Nice review again. It makes the choice between the Z6II and R6 way more difficult. :-)
Am I missing the sample photo's on your website?
Great review.
Great video! And as a heads-up, its upupdowndownbaba SELECT start! 😉
I have always agree with the fro when it comes to photography, glass, glass, glass I have two EOS R'S and no plans to buy new bodies , the RF glass is what I'll get first , I only need the Trinity, a true macro and a 35mm 1.2 , then ill get the R5 mkII or whatever is new by then 😆👍
Have my R5 back ordered and I really need them to get it in my hands so I can be as excited about this video as you are for describing these mechanical works of beauties
I would definitely pull my pre order and go to Amazon or something. They are definitely in stock just harder to find
@@kcidd12 I ordered a couple trinity lenses with it from canon itself so when I saw Amazon had a few I definitely had a few choice words 😂 so I’m hoping it won’t be too much longer. But thank you my friend!
@@ThirdMonarch no problem dude just looking out because I went through the same thing lmao...I was looking all over the web to find it and I did! It was from company that was a mom and pop business and I didn't have to deal with high tax...Enjoy your camera because it's definitely a beast!
@@kcidd12 oh no way?! So you have one in your hands. That’s awesome bro!! People like you make the photography community better. So thank you. So stoked to hear you’re enjoying it. Only reason I’m really not doing that is I had 10% off through canon and I couldn’t turn that down. What’s your Instagram or where you post? I’d love to follow good people. The mom and pop shops are coming in clutch these days.
@@ThirdMonarch Thanks! I just got it two days ago actually haha my instagram it's keenanhillproductions and I'm guessing your instagram is the same as your name?
thanks for full details
Nice review..just wondering what camera did you use to film this video? Looks nice 👍
Good vid. (And thanks to Stephen, Mr. behind the camera technical)
Merci pour Cette Vidéo j'ai commander hier mon eos R5!
YESSSSS I NEEDED THIS AT THIS !!!! How bout a vid about a vid about should you buy the rp and great glass or r6 and non L glass.
I was going to suggest the same!
Worth noting is that only newer Canon lenses give you 12 fps mechanical shutter. All other give you less than 7 fps. Learned this the hard way but I still love my R6.
Thanks Jared !
Just ordered an R6, can't wait to see how it performs!
5:06 I have read some articles / saw videos stating that R5 actually has slightly less rolling shutter effect than R6 🤔. Great video, thanks! 🙂
Great practical comparison! Love the T-shirt, eh! 🍁🍁🍁 It is the best version of the RAW Ts. All I need now is a gagillion CAD to buy one of those cameras!
Great video and very informative. Thank you! Two things that weren't discussed though that may be important to video shooters with the R6 are the lack of dynamic range and rolling shutter. Both of these two are bad on this camera.
Jared, entertaining and informative as ever. I shooting with the R5 for a while now and use compressed RAW. Thanks for pointing out the difference in bit rate. However: does it really make any noticeable difference? And BTW, I also find that for everyday use, I can get away with using a normal SD card just fine, instead of CFExpress or UHS2. Saves me the new card reader and some money.
Typically the 12-bit files will fall apart a bit sooner on extreme shadow raising or show slightly more noise / pixels in really low light situations. I've done extensive testing in Nikon land in 12 vs 14 bit and honestly, it was almost not noticeable -- if I flipped back and forth between them and looked REALLY close, I might have found the differences. Granted, these were Sony sensors in the Nikon cameras -- play around a bit, you might not notice. For me, I set my former Nikon to 12 bit and had no problem.
Reply to self: Jared, I cannot really verify that CRAW is 12bit whereas RAW is 14bit. The Canon specs are claiming that both RAW and CRAW can be 14bit with mechanical shutter, only 13 bit in H+ mode and 12 bit with electronic shutter. Any other source here? (BTW, I do not see a difference :-) )
Great comparison.
It'd be kinda cool to see how the 5D mk IV and 6D mk II hold up against the R5 and R6 respectively
Short version: They don’t, at all.
I have not used a 5D4, but have used an R a bit. For most uses, I would take the R.
I upgraded from the 6D2 (which i think is a very good camera), and can tell it does not belong in the same sentence with the R5. It does have 26mp, vs the 20 of the R6, bit all things considered, it does not belong in the same sentence with the R6, either.
Again, not bagging on the earlier Canon’s. They are great cameras.....but no, they do not hold a candle to these.
I personally think my 5dmkiv still looks usable at 12.800ISO if there is not a lot of fine detail in the frame. I will definitely use noise reduction and than slightly bump up the sharpness or texture depending on what looks best.
Hey! Love your videos and have been watching them for years!! I watched a more recent video where you spoke about you using the r3 as your main camera . Is there ever a time you need more mp and when you do which camera do you go with? With all the updates to the r5 do you use it also for higher mp work? I also preordered a r6mkii but am thinking about maybe getting a used r5 instead . I have a Sony a1 and a7iv but miss my canon camera haha
Loving that Canada shirt.!
Inspired - again!
What about that glowing “Nikon”, up there on the left, though?
That’s just overheating.
I forgot to comment the last two times. Happy Holidays Jared! Ho Ho Ho
Jered....Most wedding photographers do not want the huge files of high MP cameras. Heavy cropping is not the norm. Great ISO performance and AF are most desired. 20mp is a sweet spot that can produce beautiful 20x30 prints.
Agree totally
Most wedding?? We need those extra megapixels…
@@guillermomiranda9350 Why?
CRAW!!!
@@jmich5123 Yep. I use it for sports and wildlife. Weddings involve exposing for whites and blacks. CRAW gives up a little.
Thank you @jared Polin for this comparsion. Ιt became clearer to me which one I would choose.
did you choose the r6?
This is the video I've been looking for. I'm switching to mirrorless from my 7 year old Canon 70D. Very well put together. Thanks.
I upgraded from the 70D to the R6 and could not be happier. Such a great camera!
@@viluu1547 Have you noticed any banding in your images when shooting at 20fps using the electronic shutter?
@@viluu1547 .. I have the 70D and 90D .. the R5 and R6 was not released then
@@ahmedbebars6844 I don't really shoot fast moving subjects so cannot really comment on that.
I'm considering the R6, but my question is whether my existing third party EF mount lenses will work seamlessly. I understand that Canon EF lenses will work with the adapter, but will my Tamron 24-70 2.8 G1 lens work seamlessly as well?
Canon literally makes the best mirrorless FF cameras on the market, they are a do all cameras.
I'm so early today 😌✊🏻✨
Hello Jared,
thank you for your effort for making these comparisons.
You mentioned sample raw Files for both Cameras. I could not find a link in the desciption box to download these files and would be happy to.
Thanks in Advance, stay healthy and Greetings!
I really wanted an r5 but as a hobby photographer, I couldn't justify the cost so I went with the R6 which in terms of MP, is a step down from my EOS R but I shot @20mp for years so I wasn't too concerned. I just used it for the first time this morning and I am BLOWN AWAY! The AF destroys the AF in the EOS R.
That's good to hear as I absolutely hate the EOS R AF.
@@lubintasevski5985 so do I. The majority of my images are landscape type stuff so the AF isn't much of an issue but once in a while I do a little bird photography and the R is horrible with my sigma 150-600. Even my M50 out performs it. But I put my Canon 2x and my sigma on my r6 and it was awesome. With the IBIS and lens IS, I was shooting birds 1200mm @ 1/320 hand-held leaning against something. And the animal AF was great.
Have an old 5D Mark II with some full frame lenses, but never used for videos. Now have a food UA-cam channel, do you think the R6 would be good? Thanks a lot for great content. Subscribed! ☺️
Hey pls do a R5 vs a7r iv
Thx your vids are the best
Thank u!
Fro, you should have 5 million followers with all the work you do, AND YOU WILL! ✌️
nice video great cameras
i definitely in the market to get the R6 for hybrid purposes...then c70 for video
Very interesting and comprehensive review. Just bad that lightroom does not include Canon profiles. I currently own an EOS R (coming from a 7D Mark II) and I am very happy with it. I would greatly appreciate Canon profiles in lightroom and would hesitate to upgrade just because of the lack of Canon profiles (in lightroom).
Hey Fro!
I don’t want to be a naysayer but I want a 5D 4! Can’t afford one until later in the year but have Canon stopped manufacturing them? Or will they still be around to be picked up new later in the year?
Cheers Fro
Happy Christmas :)
Jared I love your videos , also there is only B A in the Konami code you said twice . Side note if you ever need a player two in any Konami game , I got your back .
im 10 days late seeing this awesome video I have a R5 and love it just need reliable nyc nj metro area models too shoot
Good comparison
I'm anxiously awaiting the Sony a7 IV if it will do what I think it will do (4K 60p and 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 recording with real-time tracking autofocus).
Love my R5 and 28-70 combo! I also have the RF85 1.2 and RF70-200 2.8.
Waiting for this 14-24 F2 to maybe come out one day.
Could you use the 15-35?
@@Shaz121298 I certainly can. I’m not in super need for a wide angle so I’m gonna wait to see what happens this year.
There was talk of a second Trinity combo. Most likely, I will be getting the 15 to 35.
Wow! I’m envious! Happy shooting.
Nice review. Great cameras. The video is better than the z6 video in the past, but not significantly and it's your business so it's good that you do the very best presentation possible. I agree that at this time you can't really go wrong with any of these modern cameras, as they all do a fantastic job. I have to hand it to Canon for the rf glass and the top quality bodies. I am not sure I would buy a canon DSLR at this time as they are really focused on moving users to the rf system for good reasons. Nikon is probably the best choice for DSLR fans. Sony finally has a worthy competitor in mirrorless. I really like the new Nikon z glass also and would expect they will have a great pro body soon, as their z6/7ii bodies have a lot of promise. When sigma and tamron get to support all 3 manufacturers there will be a strong reason to move off DSLR, but for the entry level photographer the value vs quality still goes to the low cost APS bodies like the D3400 and canon equivalents which are still amazing cameras in the right hands.
One thing I think people overlook is that if you switch to mirrorless you will want to get new glass as it's much better and quieter, so really look at all 3 manufacturers and don't stick with what you already have as it's a really big investment worth putting a lot of thought into. Don't listen to fanboys.
What's that damn beeping sound!? Oh, it's the Sony money truck backing up to the Fro Factory. LOL
Looked at these after 30 years with Canon and bought the LUMIX S5, & sigma 14-24/2.8 , sigma 24-70/2.8 , never happier OMG just wonderful.
Good review! Also so relieved to finally find someone who understands photography and not just another blogger! I was looking at the Key difference between R5 and R6 from the 'Camera' perspective and got it here - Thanks!
Grab a goat 😂. That needs to be on a shirt. You are the G.O.A.T. Your vids are the best and have helped pass the CoVid time more than you can believe. 🙏🏾
I’m late but raw to one card is for me jpg to one card is for my client to choose which pics they want edited. Makes it faster to share in Dropbox. In reference to “Not shooting double raw is dumb to me”
I shoot wedding & portrait the r6 does the job for me
using rf lenses?
I’m shooting with EF glass. How are the adapters, if you’ve used them?
@@thebrandalorian8271 some of the adapters crop the image from ef lenses
@@PallyGonzalez can you be more specific? Are you talking about canon adaptors? If you choose to use an efs lens, then you need to select 1:6 crop mode. Other than that I don't have any issues with my range of ef lenses, in fact they perform better than they did on my previous dslr....using the canon ef / rf adaptor on my R6.
I'm putting money aside every week to upgrade to something of this level, I'm super keen to get my hands on either the R5 or R6. Both are a great investment. Looking at the 24-70 and 70-200 as well
Hi, Garret ! Yes I'm on the same boat. I'm about to save myself. I think it would be a good investment for sure. I'm hoping the price will drop slightly when the R3 becomes available.

very helpful, but I'm still undecided... I do mostly stills, little bit of vlogging, I don't know if 45Mp and 8k would make a difference for what I do. Also the R5 goes for $5k over here vs. $3k for the R6 at the moment.
loving the MC Hammer dance lol
I shoot a lot of high school wrestling. Not always the best lighting. Would the R6 be able to handle the low light and fast movement with out blurring. At a higher speeds?
