How? It's objectively bad. The criminalization of substances just results in black markets with untaxed, riskier alternatives. Why not create better resources to help smokers rehabilitate?
Not at all. I really dislike Lis Truss but I don’t think this bill is compatible with liberal democracy.
The first cigarette or two may be a free choice, but subsequent ones are not, that's the whole point.

So they wont legalise cannabis for medicinal reasons, but banning cigarettes which cause terrible illnesses can’t happen? It doens’t make sense.
Cannabis causes a whole host of lung diseases too. You're still drawing smoke into your lungs that contains benzene.

Cannabis can be prescribed, seems to have been kept fairly quiet, but I know a couple of people who have legal medical access to it in England.
@@xinaesthetic You cannot get it on the NHS though. You need to get it privately and it costs a small fortune. Also, you need to have exhausted ever other people costing avenue, and have proof that cannabis helps with your condition. It is difficult to prove cannabis helps with all the various conditions due to a lack of research. Bottom line: It’s still too difficult to access.
Countries like Canada, the USA, and Germany have allowed their populations to grow the plant for medicinal purposes.
The fact that people need to fight to access cannabis is ridiculous. Especially when tobacco has no medical value at all.

@@CR-og5ho Theres an argument that alcohol does have beneficial effects (it has a positive social impact as it has provided social cohesion, conviviality, medicinal and antiseptic properties) alcohol has been pivotal for society but yes can be subject to abuse and causes a great many deaths but actually can be moderated by much of the population. Tobacco is addictive and extremely harmful even in low doses. Those who consume it lose choice due to the extreme addictive nature of the substance. Yes alcohol is addictive, harmful and destroys a great many lives but it is too endemic in society (and arguably has more benefits) to ban.
Why does she talk so slowly? Not complaining, the gaps are the only bits worth listening to.

At my workplace we had this multipurpose room for those who want to pray, breastfeed or just need a quiet private space. You could reserve it the day ahead and they had several rooms. It wasn’t a problem.

We banned smoking in the workplace in Ireland decades ago.
Best thing that ever happened!
Thousands of nicotine addicts stopped smoking because it was too much trouble.

Cigarettes should be banned. Get your nicotine in a way that doesn’t affect other people. The only reason to not ban it is because people make too much money off the product and the suffering it causes.

Smoking is a massive burden on the nhs. Skateboards and trampolines not so much.

It takes decades of smoking for damage to be done, in most cases. It takes no time to end up in a wheelchair from a trampoline accident. Per hour spent indulging, it's far more risky.
I think there is a bit of religious ideology going on, and I don't think Sunak is entirely happy with people drinking alcohol either. We should be able to discuss this without fear of accusations.
