The confusion is saying “I want to multiply something by itself” vs “I want to multiply something x amount of times”. Multiplication is the amount of times you add something to itself. If you add 1 one time, you literally just get one. If you add 1 no time, you get nothing.

Multiplication is just a form of addition- 1×1 means you add together 1 instance of one, giving you 1. 2×2 means you add together 2 instances of 2, giving you 4. 4×0=0 because you're adding together 0 instances of 4, giving you 0.
Makes sense to me, not sure why Terence is getting confused.
Division is just repeated subtraction- 1÷1 =1, because you can subtract 1 instance of 1 from 1.
12÷2=6 because you can subtract 6 instances of 2 from 12, and 1÷0=indeterminate (or close enough to infinity) because you can subract as many instances of 0 as you want from 1 and you still have 1.

The confusion is due to the lack of understanding of what you have explained AND the concept of units. Cents is division because it is associated with measurement and is a unit within a larger unit, 1/100 or 0.01. (Like 12 inches in 1 foot, so 1 inch is 1/12 or 0.083333) Therefore, there is a conversion required and in actuality you are dealing with FRACTIONS… when you refer to 1 penny, the word penny associated to a specific numerical division(unit/value).
If this video were recreated and explained using inches….why is 1 x 1 = 1 ??? But in a calculator, 1 inch x 1 inch doesn’t equal 1 inch ???

It signifies the presence of a certain quantity in relation to another. In the context of quantum mechanics, it becomes uncertain whether there is any action at all or how many actions are involved.
You dont use miltiplication or division to find out how much money you have. You use addition. And if you give it away such as to pay bills or as a gift, you use subtraction. You would multiply your monthly income by 12 to get your annual income which is the same as adding your monthly income for Jan thru Dec.

Do the math. Suppose Terrense is 1) smarter than anyone ever, and 2) even smarter than everyone ever, altogether. Then, use Terrense's math to calculate how smart that is. Let's call it a Gigaterr, just to give it a name. However smart a Gigaterr is, the bigger problem is that it, like all knowledge in science and human experience (even Terrense's) , is finite , whereas, the unknown is infinite. No matter how much knowledge exists, the unknown is so vast that it dwarfs knowledge in any amount to zero in comparison. How can anyone pretend that, amongst all the infinite unknown, that some truth doesn't exist that disproves everything 😅 known? I could be wrong but I think they’re confusing multiplication and addition. 1x1 doesn’t mean 1 times another 1, it simply means 1 (1) time or once… the same would be true for 5x5. If you have (2) $5 bills you don’t get $25 you get $10. That’s addition. When you multiply 5x5 you don’t multiply the first 5 by 5 more, you’re saying you have 5 (5) times

I remember as a small child having difficulty with the concept of Mathematics I was being indoctrinated with, being told that my problem with the way Mathematics was being taught was that I was trying to make sense of it and that I needed to think of it as a code now understanding that the code was what the MANIPULATORS of REALITY and TRUTH have a FORMULATION that results in a VIRTUALITY of MISREPRESENTATION of REALITY of what is ACTUAL. The way i taught my son multiplication is as an extension of addition. You have 1 something, and you count it one time (1×1=1), you have 1 of something, and you count it no times (1×0=0). It's not a dime x a dime. it's a dime × 1 (you have one dime) Bc you're multiplying to quicken addition. 0 meanes you don't have anything to add

The multiplication is about calculating an area of a rectangle or square. Draw a 1x1 square, vs 1x2 and 2x2, and see the difference. This stuff looks like math for flat earthers.

To start I love Terrence Howard. He is a genius. I have been listening to him for years now. As an explorer and scientist, I question everything.
For the multiplication aspect, growing up I always assumed the product of a quantity/set is that quantity/set duplicated. The number of duplications is represented by the number it is multiplied. For example, if a set contains zero items then the set is duplicated by four, all four duplicated sets still contain zero items. As for the number one. If a set contains one item, if the number of duplications of that set is dictated by number one the items contained in the one duplicated set are one. I guess to further my explanation if a set contains one item, if the number of duplications of the set is dictated by the number two then the items contained in the two duplicated sets are two. I may be overcomplicating this however this is how my brain as a child made sense of human math. It is simple but a bit convoluted if you ask me.
Based on the explanation in the video one penny times one penny = 0.0001. I believe there is an error. If you have one penny and times it by another penny you have one penny multiplied by 2. Meaning you have 2 sets of one penny. You can't really multiply the representation of the imaginary currency by the value of the imaginary currency. (I use this word imaginary very loosely because the currency is given form by the collective consciousness, or eurocentric educational system of epistemology and axiology). A nickel represents 0.05% of a dollar. You multiply the set/representation of 0.05% by another representation of 0.05% you get 2x0.05%=0.10% or a dime. To say that one quarter x one quarter equals = 0.0625 is to say that 1/4 of a dollar multiplied by a set of 1/4 of a dollar is 0.0625% of a dollar. I guess the real misdirection is trying to associate the physical application of the universe with a meta-conceptual concept like currency. So ask if you had a box with two puppies and had only one set of the box with two puppies, how many puppies do you have?

We need to get our units straight. When we say "dime", we are referring to 0.10 dollars (1 tenth of a dollar). When we say "cent", we are referring to 0.01 (one hundredth of a dollar).
So, multiply: 0.10 * 0.10 = 0.01. In other words, one tenth of one tenth is equal to one hundredth (0.01). It's a tenth of a tenth. But a tenth of what? A dollar. So what happened there? We forgot about our units!! Multiplying a dollar (or a fraction of a dollar) by another dollar (or fraction of a dollar) DOES NOT MAKE SENSE!!! What results is a numerical answer expressed in SQUARE DOLLARS! Which is a unit of AREA, a 2-dimensional unit, rather than "dollar" which is a 1-dimensional unit.
Correcting for dimension: Since we know that 100 cents = 1 dollar, then we know that (100)^2 square cents = 1 square dollar. A square dollar is equal to 10,000 square cents. Thus, we could say that "a dime times a dime" is actually 0.01 square dollars = A hundredth of a square dollar, meaning a hundredth of 10,000 square cents, which is 100 square cents, which is 0.01 square dollars.
The calculator is not saying it's a "cent". A "cent" is a hundredth of a dollar. The calculator is correctly saying that the result is equal to 0.01 square dollars. QED

I was doing a mind experiment recently and determined that zero and negative numbers as values do not exist (except in the mind) because there is never a time when nothing or less than nothing can be substantiated. These values do however exist if (and only if) zero is used as a baseline.
For example, a temperature of zero is actually 32 degrees F and 0 degrees C, which does contain actual values colder than the temperature where water freezes. Yet we call this value zero and label values less than zero negative, which is not a true statement.
Now, we could use absolute zero, which is the coldest temperature scientifically but is it really “zero” and is there actually nothing or nothing taking place when we evaluate things at that temperature - and here’s the rub, we don’t know because we can not achieve true absolute zero in a similar way that we can not achieve the speed of light with anything other than a mass of zero (photon).
This leaves us with a mind numbing question that strikes at the limitation of science and math - what is a singularity and does it exist. In a singularity is temperature a temperature, does time have a value or negative value, and can we ever truly know these answers when science requires observable values and zero is not observable.
Two certain things are that we can’t use zero as true zero when we are working with a baseline AND altering the unit sizes (1 dime = 2 nickels, 1 does not equal 2) is not an option when trying to evaluate a calculable outcome.

Late at night when my brain is tired I have struggled with these type of koans. The more I focus, the deeper I delve, my mind starts inventing dots that need to be connected. I become aware of the fallacy of logic and reason. After passing out from enlightenment, waking up fully clothed on the floor the next morning (or days hence), I drink some coffee and eat some protein. I feel much better. With a sense of joy, I am grateful to have been enlightened and did not commit suicide.

Gradeschool math disproves every one of these claims. What it is is a misunderstanding of how math works. a dollar times a dollar makes as much sense as a bananna times a bananna. How much is a bananna times a bananna exactly? this stems from the fact that he is mixing terminology as if they were all the same. a dollar is both a Value and an object. you can multiply the value, with a number. for instance a dollar $1.00 x 40 = $40. What you cant do is take a dollar bill and multiply it with another dollar bill. you have two dollar bills at that point not one. Theres this thing in math where we combine anything that is similar into one entity.
If you have 2 cars, lets say each is 1car, that means you have 2 1cars. lets say i have 2 cars and 2 vans. what is 2 vans x 2 cars? it doesnt exist because it makes no sense. You can change your category for your numbers and say i have 2vans which are vehicles, therefore 2vehicles, and 2 cars which are vehicles therefore another 2 vehicles, which means a grand total of 4 vehicles, two of which are vans, and two of which are cars.
see how the UNIT describing the meaning of the number is critical for the math to work. well terrence is mixing units all over the place. plain and simple.

There is a huge fundamental problem with the math right at the beginning of the book, and that is that a basic calculator understands how the monetary system works, it doesn’t, it can’t, so the assumption that 1 penny times 1 penny is 0.0001, is wrong, 1 penny and another 1 penny is 2 pennies. Why the heck are people with brains getting multiples and multiplied mixed up, (1x1) literally translates to 1 lot of one item, (1x2) literally translates to one item twice. If when referring to 1 penny on a calculator, you type 0.01, you didn’t type 1 penny you just typed a fraction (1 hundredth) so you are assuming the calculator knows the different denominations of a currency, it doesn’t and it can’t. 1 of something should always be typed as 1, because a calculator doesn’t know what you’re thinking.🤔

I’m all for alternative ways of thinking and finding truth, but only if it makes logical sense. The math in the video interchanges units of measurement which is either ignorant or dishonest. Not to mention you’re multiplying a value by a value and not a value x amount of times, as multiplication is meant to be calculated.

This doesn't really make sense to me. If I have one car one time then I still have one car. Multiplication indicates how many TIMES a given sum appears. If i have one thing one time, it's one.

I actually always considered myself to be bad at mathematics when I was young. It was because of this exact information. I used to tell my teachers that the system was flawed and that it doesn't make sense. It was strange because I always did very well in school up until that point. Do the math. Suppose Terrense is 1) smarter than anyone ever, and 2) even smarter than everyone ever, altogether. Then, use Terrense's math to calculate how smart that is. Let's call it a Gigaterr, just to give it a name. However smart a Gigaterr is, the bigger problem is that it, like all knowledge in science and human experience (even Terrense's) , is finite , whereas, the unknown is infinite. @@whitetiger39619 basically he’s trying to multiply a quarter which is a PERCENTAGE OF A DOLLAR and multiply it times a quarter which is also a PERCENTAGE of a dollar and confused as to why he has to move the decimal 2x like any other percentage multiple. Also he would get his answers much more easily if he multiplied the quarter 25% times 25 total WHOLE quarters which would translate to .25 x 25 total whole quarter which is 6.25 another note he says 1x1 is 2 no 1 times itself is 1 and there are 2 separate ones if you add them. He’s trying to mix adding and multiplication into one equation
