    I have put in for public elk hunts for over 15 years and still have yet to draw a tag. I agree this is all about money. The local residents are getting screwed out of these tags. I have only draw a deer tag three times in 20 years.

      When I lived in NM, it seemed New Mexicans hated people from Texas, but I guess it's a different story if the Texans are lining their pockets...

    I am sympathetic to the idea of attracting wealthy out of state hunters and getting top dollar for tags. However, the state should have some tags that only residents can bid on. It's not fair to price state residents out of the hunt.

    Hunting was never supposed to go to the highest bidder. these Outfitters and these guides have ruined hunting in every state in the West because they get preference on the tags and that's b*******. I don't give a damn if you own 50,000 Acres you don't own them animals on there

    I’m leaving on the 19th of October to hunt bull elk in Unit 52 North of Tres Piedras. I’ve been getting gear ready for a month now, trailer almost loaded and excitement level on high. Hoping for a little snow up there.

    I went for 8 years without drawing a single tag period and i put in fir 5-6 species a year. The E plus system only helps in state hunters if the landowners have the unit wide. Then they are supposed to open their land to public hunters. I would say in 20 years of hunting I have never once seen private land opened for public hunters, even if they are part of the unit wide e plus system. Of course the game and fish what the out of state hunters to come and spend $900 on a license for a bull elk. But that is not what hunting is all about. I can't go to places like Texas and hunt public land. There is really none. So why should the people that dont let us enjoy texas wildlife for anything less that a few thousand dollars be able to come very cheaply to new mexico and take our tags. It is a serious joke for the NMDGF to act like it isn't about the money. They over hunt areas for tag sale revenue. What about the money in state hunters will spend on gas/diesel, food, sporting equipment. Just sad that I don't think Mt son will have the same hunting opportunities that he would have 20 to 25 years ago because we were whoring out our wildlife for state revenue.

    Non residents come to Northern NM and think they can do whatever they want. I should say not all but most of them do. During the bull season bow I’ve seen out of state hunters tag 2 days after hunt ends because they don’t want to go empty handed. Not fair!! I once found 8 elk dead with only the antlers or heads cut off. That pisses me off!!! They come for hunts with 20 people on atv’s and side by sides during fall and scare everything driving like idiots on non establish roads or off trails cutting trees to get to places on atvs. Where’s NMDGF when this is happening? But I parked off the road 10’ and got told off by a officer for being off road. I could go on with all I seen.

    I hunted cow elk in Dec. Of 2022 in Unit 16 E and never saw an Elk of any kind. Didnt see any deer or signs of any game except a couple of coyotes. All the hunters in the area, never saw an Elk as well. Those forest fires that the State of New Mexico started by choice ruined the hunts for most hunters. Of course the State keeps collecting revenue. As far as the draw, yes all these out of state individuals just come in with open momey accounts to hunt private lands. These outfitters point out the game and the hunters point their rifles toward the game that have been grown and selected on the property for a quick kill. It's simply a money thing for the private land owners and outfitters. For us resident.. real hunters, in New Mexico, we appreciate the challenge of a public land hunt. We are the real hunters ! We do it to help feed our families especially now that Biden threatens our livelihood on a daily basis. Yes, getting a draw should never be a money thing...thats just plain crooked ! Good luck to local resident New Mexico hunters on the next draw !

    Plus they've absolutely devastated the buck quality in the state. 1,600 rifle tags is way to much for unit 30. Plus the youth rifle hunt . Or unit 2 where they opened up the youth hunt in the rut and wreaked all the big bucks from Colorado that would come down.

    The State agency, NMDGF, should be required by statute, to keep records and report all tags sold, issued, and gifted by landowners. Categorized by: Game Unit, Ranch or farm name/location and species. Then, we the public would be able to see the real story for ourselves. Now, everybody does whatever they want to and NMDGF does not care?

    I'm torn on the E-plus system, I can see them giving private land tags, but I do not necessarily agree with unit wide tags. I know ranches that receive unit wide tags are supposed to allow access to public hunters, but that is always a little sketchy in my experience. My bigger complaint would be the outfitter draw pool; there should be no such thing. It should simply be resident or non-resident, and then those that draw can higher an outfitter as they see fit.
    As for everyone complaining about not drawing? NM is a much more fair system with their true lottery versus the neighboring states that do point systems. You have to learn to play the game. The draw odds from previous years are all posted. I've managed to hunt elk many times in the state of NM, either myself or assisting friends on hunts. We are blessed with some great hunting opportunities here in this state.

    It's not just new Mexico. It's in Colorado too. I wished there was a law to keep out of staters away and have to earn the same amount of points we have to earn. Took me 8 years to get 1 bull tag. Texas people draw it on first try.

    • @joshwages4223
      @joshwages4223 8 місяців тому +1

      Bs buddy cry me a freaking river, NM made it too easy for ppl to get their outfitter license and then the number of land owner tags is what’s killing the system there, I put in for public in units that are not known for quality and still haven’t drawn in years, I help guide in Colorado in a lesser unit, we deal with out of staters in Oklahoma just the same ppl from Texas lease big chunks of land so I go Elk hunting, if it’s blm it’s ours just the same as it’s yours

  • @larrypnh

    They should cut the landowner tags issued by 50%, to start. Some ranchers, because of their acreage, can sell unlimited tags of some species. And, that is just not fair! Why bother ranching and farming, just sell elk, deer, antelope and bear tags? A bunch of B.S.!

  • @cotedeeds3055
    @cotedeeds3055 Рік тому +2

    Y’all need to do some more research, lol. These are private land tags that anybody can buy, even those who live in New Mexico. Out of state hunters are only alotted 6% of tags. 10% go into the outfitter pool, and 84% to to in state hunters!!!!!! Stop crying.

    84% of the available tags go to residents so I'm not sure why people are complaining that non-residents are getting shown favoritism!
    The problem is in the fact that you don't have a Bonus Point system so every year you're back at "luck of the draw"!
    Montana has the best Point system...each draw your pts are squared so if i have 5 pts it becomes 25 pts and if Joe The Plumber has 20 pts it becomes 400 pts!
