British Airways retires 2nd 747. G-BYGF. 26.08.20. A tribute.

- G-BYGF was the 2nd youngest in the BA fleet - delivered in February 1999 and with a relatively low number of hours flown compared with some of her older "sisters". So it was a surprise when we heard that this would be the next of the (originally) 9 remaining 747s left at Heathrow, to leave for the final time.
This afternoon, Wednesday 26th August 2020, G-BYGF flew to Kemble Cotswolds; the final resting place of G-CIVJ, L and N (see my separate film on my channel • BA retire / withdraw 3...
Here is a short tribute film to another #QOTS Queen of the Skies that has left us; 3 films showing GF in action over the last 18 months. Enjoy the sights and sounds from this aircraft- now sadly gone forever.

Amazing, actually one of the best!!
74s forever ✈
The RB211 spooling up is truly amazing. An amazing sound, easily recognizable by its distinctive roar.
@Mike 5890. Yes such a distinctive sound. Love it!
Them beautiful RR engines are such a distinctive sound my favorite on the 747 series 😍
Beautifully done! You really capture the power of the 747 in this video. Down to the final 7 at LHR. The magnificent 7!
@MrFlashjet- The Heathrow Airport Archive. Thank you Dave - I was kicking myself because by the time it left the stand I could have made it to film it go. Never mind. As you say we are down to just 7 now. The frustrating bit is not having more advance notice of when they are leaving .... hope you are making a good recovery???
@@HeathrowAircraft Thanks, yes, I hope to film the final 7 from LHR. Looks like they will be leaving 1 a week... But we shall see. October will PROBABLY see the last one leave, but don't quote me on that!
@@HeathrowAircraft "I was kicking myself because by the time it left the stand I could have made it to film it go". That must've been frustrating. If I see some news, I'll let you both know.
Looks like G-ZZZB will make its final journey this Saturday, 29th of August. Make sure to try to catch her if either of you can!
I am hoping to catch the 747 Negus Retro livery G-CIVB and the Oneworld liveries. Nice video, by the way.
@Train and Plane Hype. Yes it would be good to catch those. It is difficult 2nd guessing BA though as to when / which aircraft would be next to go. We all thought it would be CIVH as it has passed the date for the 6 year major maintenance- but instead they send the 2nd youngest in the fleet with fewer hours???? Don’t get it.....
@@HeathrowAircraft well sadly none of them will return to service anyway...
I saw her a year ago taxiing at Heathrow, and I also saw her a couple months back in Dallas Fort Worth. Very sad to see her leave.
@Jay Deshpande It is very sad. And such a “Young” 747 too - the 2nd youngest with many less hours flown than some of her older sisters. I wonder which will be going next......
Heathrow Aircraft - past and present. Probably another one of the G-CIV_ 747s. But not sure
@Jay Deshpande I think you are right. I was betting on CIVH as it has its 6 year maintenance overhaul overdue - thought that would be the one to go instead of GF!
Terrible that these aircraft have to be broken up.
Great video!
nice mate !! when will british airways resume flights to chennai form LHR !!
Nice one Steve.Good job as always.J.
@rudevandriver Thank you very much Jamie. Another one gone. When will it be the next one I wonder.....
@@HeathrowAircraft Trying not to think of that.....................it's a pity that BA haven't thought about hanging on to a couple of airframes and doing air experience flights with them like they used to do.Daresay they would be very popular to say the least.
Goodbye,farewell and thank you!.
Wow
And it has the latest Panasonic IFE?? Great cabin upgrade I thought
great video mate
Wonder if any will be preserved
Fabulous, thanks so much for this. Seemed like a long take-off run given I'd have thought very little fuel on board and no passengers.
@Charlie Golf Aviation. You are very welcome. As I say my film showed GF “out and about” during the last 2 years of service - I didn’t get the final flight but am hoping to catch most of the remaining 7 LHR based 747s. If there are any more going to Kemble we should touch base to have a “start and finish” set of films catching the departure from LHR and the arrival at Kemble Cotswolds. Keep in touch. Best, Steve
Good bye speed bird 285/284 we will miss you at SFO 😭😭😭😭😘😘😘😘
Isn't there anyway to use the discarded fuselages as housing for the homeless once all the useable accessories are salvaged?!
Please everyone, try to expand the acceptance of this idea. These units would be very durable & could be made quite comfortable.
If you were homeless wouldn't you want to be housed in a solid structure such as this, rather than a bus bench subject to the weather.
Please pass this idea on!
Just departed
This is not the 2nd to be retired, They have been reducing the 747 fleet for the last 3 years slowly. Covid has now sped up the process.
@Matt Beale. Absolutely! And if you have a look on my channel you’ll see I have chartered the various 747s retired over the last 2 years - BNLN, BNLP, BNLK, CIVG, CIVM and the 3 that left for Kemble in April CIVJ, L and N. However in the press and elsewhere this round of departures is referred to as the 1st retirement (CIVD) and GF as the second so it is easier to use this description rather than a great long preamble like I’ve just given you!!! 👍
That ain’t the retirement flight. It took off from 27L that’s 27R
@James Harvey. That’s right. That’s why I called it a tribute film rather than calling it the last flight. 👍
Oh yeh my bad
James Harvey 😄 not at all. I was hoping to catch it leaving - managed to see CIVD off on that final flight but wasn’t poss with BYGF sadly so had to show some highlights from the last 2 years instead.
I actually managed to fly on G-BYGF from Chicago back to Heathrow
James Harvey Fantastic- great that you got the Chance to fly on her before she was gone 👍
Such a magnificent aircraft. You can’t beat the sound of those engines roaring down the runway - something you just don’t get with other aircraft. Sad sad times 😥
@Donna Matthews. I totally agree with you. An amazing sound and an amazing aircraft. Incredibly sad times...🥺
No wing wave earlier this day 😒
I know, she isn’t getting the send off she deserves at all!
@@EvieAviation I don't think it being considered as any kind of 'happy' or celebratory event at all by BA. They don't want to lose these planes at all so soon, but they are showing respect for colleagues who are being fired (12,000) by not turning it into a circus. All the BA 747's that have left so far in the last 2 months, have gone almost like a wake.
MrFlashjet - The Heathrow Airport Archive oh totally agree, I don’t mean a party. A sad event all round. My heart goes out to those being made redundant, a frightening time. I don’t know where I can find out when the last 7 are leaving, I would love to be able to see at least one go in the flesh
@@EvieAviation Steve/ - Evie, I think that is how you spell your name!? This thread is excellent and usually gives a day in advance notice of when the next one is leaving....www.flyertalk.com/forum/british-airways-executive-club/2020028-ba-retire-entire-b747-fleet-52.html
@@MrFlashjet Yes, Evie. Thank you so much for that info, Dave I will check that website out :)
