  • 1 November is the start of the cyclone season in Vanuatu! During a disaster, people with disabilities are more likely to be injured and their families may be reluctant to move to a safe shelter due to shame, stigma or fear of discrimination. Good disaster planning and preparation is essential to ensure families and communities are aware of the actions required in the event of an emergency. We need to find ways to make sure that people with disabilities are invited and able to have their say in Community Disaster Climate Change Committees and have input into preparedness plans. This first talking book, in our Disaster READY series, discusses what we need to do to ensure people with disabilities are not left behind in times of a disaster. World Vision Vanuatu acknowledges the support of the Australian Government through the Australian Humanitarian Partnership and the Water for Women Fund. Be Disaster READY, stay safe and ensure that no-one is left behind.
