2019 and i still miss John. He was my inspiration and the reason why i started to play guitar. He thought me that music is way more then notes and sound. So much thanks and love for John and RHCP that they influenced my life in such a positive way. Big fan since 1993.
Every time I get down on my playing or lose that passion I throw on his music and the passion and inspiration comes rushing back. He has a brilliant mind and ear for good passionate music. A truly rare musician that is highly underrated. Slash made want play guitar. John made me want to learn it in and out and become one with the guitar.
«It's like I'm in the fourth dimension and somebody asking me to describe it verbally... And that's what the fourth dimension is all about....there's no words, no symbols, no images...all pure energy and vibrations...» John Frusciante - (Funky Monks Documentary)
To all the people criticizing on Frusciante: a solo doesn't always have to be technical or difficult. Even though I can surely appreciate a good technical performance on the guitar (e.g. Vai, Emmanuel, Satriani), in the end, music is about emotions. Listening to this jam gives me so much energy, even though it might not be a very difficult jam. It's raw. Take B.B. King. He differentiated himself by keeping it as simple as possible. But with so much feeling in every fucking note. I can feel the energy in this jam - it takes me away. That's the highest you can hope for as a musician, in my opinion.
Damn man, you are so right. In my opinion it is more impressive playing a simple solo with this amount of feelings in it than shredding the shit out of your neck. The simplicity is sometimes harder to get.
So many people seem to miss this point you make. You’re spot on in my opinion. High speed technical playing is impressive for sure. But this type of playing feeds my soul.
I wish I had talent like that. I can watch John in this video, and feel the emotion from his facial gestures of pain during different riffs. I do the "Air Guitar" and feel it...I don't care if that sounds weird. The ups and downs of this solo mean sadness, heartache, and then a little bit of redemption.....and then accepting it. That's how it makes me feel. A beautiful true story of love and loss.
This dude is incredible. The way his fingers connect with and dance up and down the strings. He knew, from a young age, that he wanted to be a rockstar. Got the fame and fortune and it smashed him hard. Became a recluse and addict, yet those seemingly dark times produced some of his greatest music! So glad he bounced back with good support and is still playing!
Great to have JF back. Missed his face pulling while shredding. One of the things that makes them stand out live for me is that it’s not just about playing the songs, they leave themselves free to improvise and and jam on stage.
Several years ago my friend showed me that video! I could never imagine that I will see it million times after that..today my friend playing the bass and I’m playing the electric guitar! We jam every week and we get inspired watching this video almost every time! Now it doesn’t seem impossible to get to that level at some point and it’s a crazy unreal good feeling !
I wish more bands do this kinda of thing in their sets, because in my opinion this is the best way to showcase the chemistry of a band to have impromptu jamming sessions.
