    Labour took Scotland's majority vote for granted for decades. A right wing Labour is Tory version 2, bad for the UK as a whole.

      ***** I'm pretty sure Scotland hasn't been economically crippled by war reparations that it has to pay back. The Weimar republic didn't cause the problems Germany faced in the 20th century, it started with Kaiser Wilhelm going to war, a king, not a democratically elected government.

      Cherry Pips There is nothing delusional about matters of fact that you can check for yourself. And I'll say something more. I've just spent some time in Edinburgh and been away playing music with a group of people, inc, a guy from Edinburgh, one from Glasgow and one from Mull. The Glaswegian was interesting...although born there he's been brought up in England from aged 3 to 14 before returning, and although in his 30s has retained a southern English accent. All 3 were sick to death of the SNP and those who want to continue fighting a lost referendum campaign. Worse still the Glaswegian regularly continues to experience what I experienced in Edinburgh ..the nasty right wing fascist element of the SNP (simply because of his accent). Something good.!...the country has become inward looking and divided. I find it sad the way the SNP is destroying the country's standing...a matter not helped of course with regards to Sturgeon's hypocritical stance on SNP MPs voting on English matters.

      He did nothing of the sort.
      The fact is that Scotland's values are more socially orientated than England's will ever be.
      That's always been true.
      But - with the demise of New Labour - the SNP has taken a hold of all reasonable thinking people in Scotland with its positive message for the future. Even people who voted "No" in the referendum were persuaded to vote SNP in the election.

      The union is on a knife edge. Surely you can see that. There has never been a bigger north south divide in this corrupt, unfair union. A relic of a forgotten empire, he union should be consigned to the history books. The union has never been on shakier ground and the sooner it ends the better for ALL involved. So maybe you'll lose out on our oil tax but i'f you keep on voting conservative, I'm sure they will start taxing your oxygen to make up for it.

      ***** Really! Then please explain why In Edinburgh south there's a higher proportion of children attending private schools than anywhere else in the UK except West London? And why people who can obviously afford to contribute towards higher education get it for free when the SNP Scottish gov track record in supporting secondary education in Scotland is so appalling and there's a lower percentage of children from the lowest socio-economic groups getting into University than anywhere else in the UK? One day you might wake up and realise that there's no difference between people in the British Isles....have you ever stayed anywhere else?

    I was born in Glasgow.
    My Dad is English, and a fully paid up member of the SNP.
    He's been to Glasgow on countless occasions, and your misleading description of the people there is an absolute disgrace.
    On his most recent visit, he accidentally left his bag on a bus... he chased after it, and it stopped. The driver saw him running in the mirror and stopped the bus.
    Would that ever happen in London? Of course not.
    A city centre bus driver in Glasgow will stop if he sees you're in trouble - that doesn't happen in southern England at least.
    It's about culture - the Scots simply like being nice to people, whereas down south (as evidenced by this election result) it's all about me-me-me.

      +Mai Nem Isn't your dad a bute. The SNP are liars and phonies. Can anyone please explain why both they and the Tories were backed both in print and financially by Salmonds close friend, Murdoch? How can any party that claimed Labour were red Tories jump into bed with the Tories and be manipulated by the Wapping union breaker, Murdoch. It's a fact that 2 million non Tories voted for them at the last minute to prevent your anti-British party getting into power. How many times daily did Sturgeon ask Miliband to form a coalition, and how many times did he knock her back. Why didn't you cotton on about what was going on, I was right on it. You have no right to moan about the Tories, if it wasn't for Sturgeons dirty tricks they wouldn't be in power.One more thing, Sturgeon, and now Salmond this morning on the BBC has clearly said if the rest of the UK votes to opt of the EU then they want another referendum. Why is the SNP the only party who can predict the outcome of this vote. Are they taking the Scots for granted, or do they presume you'll vote as you are told to do to? South of the border you have Labour and Tory voters who are pro and anti-European. Sturgeon is treating you like uneducated lemmings, FACT.

    What untmitgated drivel re £200 billion contribution more than received. Scotland accounts for 8.4% of the UK population, 8.3% of the UK's total output and 8.3% of the UK's non-oil tax revenues - but 9.2% of total UK public spending.Scottish Executive figures for 2009-10 show that spending per capita in Scotland was £11,370, versus £10,320 for the UK. In other words, spending in Scotland was £1,030 - or 10% higher - per head of population than the UK average. The same source shows Scottish total non-oil tax revenues coming in at £42.7bn in 2009-10, or £8,221 per head, which compares with total public expenditure attributable to Scotland of £59.2bn, or £11,370 per head. These numbers include not just the so-called "identifiable" public spending that took place in Scotland, on schools, roads and the like, but also more amorphous parts of the budget like defense and debt interest. On this basis, Scotland 'got' £16.5bn more in UK public spending in 2009-10 than it contributed to total UK revenues - or a 'subsidy' of around £3,150 per head.,
    And so it has been for 96 years out of the last 100.
    The entire Scottish economy is underwritten and very heavily sunsidised by the rest of the UK.
    Personally I don't mind. What I do mind is separatists lying about it.

      ***** Twice you quote figures that exclude oil tax revenues from Scotland this is false accounting and gives a false impression.Exluding Scottish oil tax revenues and attributing them to the whole UK is simply forming an opinion and then skewing your figures to support that opinion. You should balance things up by excluding a comparable amount of taxes raised outwith Scotland. When you do that you get a true picture.The latest figures from the UK Treasury show that through the Barnett formulae Scotland received £46 billion. HM Revenue And Customs shows taxes received from Scotland £53 billion, now what happened to the other £7 billion?

    • @clivelangman8696
      @clivelangman8696 9 років тому +1

      clyne day I don't know where you get your figures from ..what I do know is that the SNP projected figures for Scottish revenue with oil priced at $113 a barrel. It's now $65.The latest figures I can find (20213) show that Scots each receive almost £1,300 more public spending than the rest of the UK despite a sharp drop in the taxes they pay to the UK Exchequer.
      Scotland’s deficit - the difference between spending and taxes raised in Scotland- spiralled to 8.3 per cent of GDP in 2012/13,. The source of this information?The Government Expenditure and Revenue Scotland (GERS).
      While tax revenues were £800 higher per head in Scotland than the UK as a whole, public spending was £1,267 more per person in Scotland.
      The deterioration in Scotland’s finances was caused by a sudden £4.4 billion drop in revenue from oil - a 41.5 per cent fall in North Sea revenues compared to the previous year.
      The UK’s deficit fell to 7.3 per cent of GDP over the same period, the report said, leaving Scotland deeper in the red to the tune of £1.5 billion or £283 per person.The situation has, of course, nose dived since these figures were published with the collapse in oil prices. There must have been senior SNP figs heaving a huge sigh of relief when the majority of voters had the good sense to vote 'no'. ---------------Incidentally the UK's only real source of large earnings, the City of London, generates as much income for the UK as the oil tax revenue at its peak. Have you ever heard anybody from anywhere in the UK maintain that such money should be retained by London or by England? As well as the social division I find the SNP's economics arguments nonsense. The separatist lost . There will not be another referendum in our lifetimes. Time to move on.

    • @clyneday4410
      @clyneday4410 9 років тому +1

      ***** I told you where I got my figures from and I notice that you have now changed yours. You ignore my question and simply regurgitate a list of statistics that you clearly do not understand fully.
      Accounting and budgets have two elements income and outgoings. You only quote one side, i.e the income to Scotland you do not quote or take into account the other side of the balance sheet which is the £53 billion paid to Westminster. When you do it leaves a £7 billion (2014 figure) which you conveniently ignore because it doesn't fit you pre conceived opinion.
      You seem very aware of SNP projected oil figures and comment on falling oil price.
      Purely for our amusement can you quote the estimated oil price per barrel that George Osborne use in his 2014 budget? You managed to copy and paste the SNP figure. What did Osborne base his budget on? was it $113 or $65??

    • @kilbraur
      @kilbraur 9 років тому

      ***** "Have you ever heard anybody from anywhere in the UK maintain that such money should be retained by London or by England?" This appears to be your argument to explain why you exclude taxation from Scottish oil in your sums and attribute it all to the UK. Why exclude only taxation from, oil why not taxes raised in Scotland from the chemical industry or agriculture or the finance sector? Why do you arbitrarily choose the oil sector to exclude?

    • @kilbraur
      @kilbraur 9 років тому

      clyne day You will never get answers for your two questions. The anti Scottish brigade never admit to the chancellor's prediction for oil price being more than the SNP prediction. Neither can they tell you where the £7 billion surplus goes, they only want to talk about the public spending figure.

      scotland gets free prescriptions and free personal care, also free hospital parking
      scotland gets free university education [a scot at a scottish univsrsity gets it free an englishman has to pay. Is this racist?]
      This is not right.

      We have spent decades trying to make it right, and so we do things different and better in some respects. It's not our fault no-one bothers down there, so prefer to "blame the Scots" for your own failings.
      London Contributes more, they also get more than any other English region as well. They dont want special privileges?? Look at the Billions and Billions constantly spent there, using tax money. Most of the English regions are drained of funding, with a preference of spending it in London.

      johnnycarrotheid we are sorting our country out from the mess left by the Labour party . Unemployment is falling and inflation is low. Interest rates are low and the economy is growing. If we left the EU and controlled immigration this would be the icing on the cake.
      I don't mind if the Scots want to mess up their own country by taxing and spending but I don't want to contribute any more to the Scots. If the Scots want to embrace a socialist economic policy they should secede from the UK.

      The LibDems getting obliterated is wonderful and well deserved. A LibDem MP remarked that he could understand why the Palestinians would fire rockets at the Israelis. He was forced to retract and apologise. So you cannot trust the LibDems with defence. Presumably, if Israel: attacked the UK; enforced an illegal military occupation; moved in settlers; and annexed East London, the LibDems would be telling our armed forces not to fire any rockets at them.

    Independence for Orkney and Shetland!
    These islands have their own language, they only became Scots as a result of a dodgy dowry deal in 1361 and they are Viking not Scots. Look at the place names.

      Swaggy Tom with 45k their population is larger than many other successful independent countries. The islands also have a natural frontier.

      The Terminator Absolutely wrong..and there are many such examples elsewhere inc. British Isles. Have you not heard of the Isle of Man?Moreover there's a huge financial incentive and my experience is that people in the Orkneys and Shetlands trust Edinburgh far less than London

    The Scottish Lion lead by donkeys. Scottish independence in the EU is a contradiction. The Sturgeon’s are ok with their £200,000.00 a year income. Why cannot you all see. The Brexit Party will get us all free, then try for independence, but when the UK are on the up, independence may be futile. No Brainer.

    If Nicola Sturgeon gets her way she will turn Scotland into another Greece . Whatever attributes this woman has , and I say that loosely , an understanding of economics and finance is totally absent .

      Look it up here on UA-cam - this girl gave a lecture to the LSE (London School of Economics) a year or two ago.
      She understands economics.
      And actually - it's no secret since the Marshall Plan:
      Give people money, and they will spend it and kickstart a chain reaction that boosts all economies in the system.
      It's easy.
      Tightening belts austerity results in no-one spending and just stagnating.
      The most recent example to support my view is the case of the very banks that got us into this mess.
      Without the bailouts, can you imagine the carnage?
      Give people money and they will spend it - and get things going again.
      That's Sturgeon's simple message which has time and again proven to be a good message.

    Westminster but happy to be ruled by Brussels. So, how's that work ??
