Surf fishing for sharks is an adrenaline rush like no other! Imagine the thrill of feeling a shark take your bait as the surf crashes around you. Whether you're after a hammerhead, blacktip, or lemon shark, we've got the perfect surf fishing rig that’s proven time and again to land even the biggest catches!"
Before we dive into the rig, let’s talk bait. Fresh bait is your best friend in shark fishing! Fresh is always better, whether bluefish, mullet, or ladyfish. And if you can’t find fresh, frozen bait from your local tackle shop, it will work in a pinch. Just make sure the bait isn’t bigger than the palm of your hand."
Now, onto the rig. Start by cutting a 2-foot fishing wire and attaching a swivel using a haywire twist. Attach your hook - we recommend a 7/0 size for sharks around 6 feet, but it can handle bigger ones, too!"
Cut a 1-foot piece of monofilament for the weight section, attach a swivel with a uni-knot, and create a loop for your pyramid sinker. This simple setup keeps it strong and effective!"
Finally, connect the hook setup to your leader, allowing the weight to slide freely. This increases your chances of hooking the shark as it won't feel the weight. Attach your leader to the main line using a uni-to-uni or FG knot, depending on your line type."
When it’s time to land that shark, safety comes first! Always fish with a buddy. Once the shark is in the shallows, keep it facing out to sea and use de-hookers or wire cutters to remove the hook quickly. Sharks must be released promptly - it’s crucial for survival."
Release the shark into the ocean and watch it swim away, knowing you’ve had a successful catch. Now, it’s time to crack open a beer and celebrate! Happy fishing!
