I recently started playing this title... its very very VERY good... I havent played many Mario Golfs tbh... but its a very complete and fun game. It has an amazing level of content and challenges.
I really like your reviews. I particularly like how you mark the game on Art Style and Visuals as opposed to "Graphics", which most people mistakenly think is just about technical aspects, but either way it's great to see a reviewer focus on the actual artistry rather than the underlying tech (which in a few years time is going to be completely meaningless anyway). Same goes for how you mark the game based on gameplay and replayability rather than single play through time which is what most modern reviewers seem to get hung up on. IMO, it's more important how much you get out of a game overall than how long it takes you to play through the game one time. Good stuff all round.
Yeah I agree. I notice a lot of SNES games look better than PS1 games. A lot of PS1 games look grainy and dated due to the early 3D graphics. The PS1 is obviously more technologically powerful than the SNES, but in terms of art style and visuals as opposed to "graphics" technology has little to do with it.
Andrew Phillips Totally agree with you. It's why so many of the classic 16bit games hold up so well visually, despite being simple pixel art, whereas so many of the good looking at the time PS1 games actually look fugly a hell now. I wish more developers would remember this these days too because a lot of the games people considered "beautiful" last-gen ("graphics kings" as it were) and indeed this gen too, simply aren't going to look quite as "beautiful" in 20 years time whereas something like Journey will almost certainly still look gorgeous in 20 years time (as will the best looking SNES games continue to also). Art and artistry will always trump tech when it comes to game graphics.
"It's just not all is could be." If you don't think Waluigi spinning like a ballerina on a chair with his head on his foot isn't all it could be, then you just want too much.
Nintendo, how do you do this to me? I hate golf. I hate racing games... But you some how make me love every installment of Mario Golf and Mario Kart. How in the world did you and Capcom make the concept of being a defense attorney in court fun? Nintendo, you're fucking weird. Please don't ever change.
You were right on the dot with the having to get used to the controls, it did take a little getting used to, at least in the demo, which I have eagles in all but 3 holes
Yep.. 5 baby characters that are all pretty much the same, 7 koopalings that are all pretty much the same as well and metal Mario followed by Pink metal peach or some crap!? Yea I think I would.
Personally I prefer Camelot to focus on Arcade Golf Gameplay and not turn it into an RPG like the GBA titles. The Gear in the game kind of levels you up, so having any kind of RPG stuff would have interfered with that. The Castle Club needed more to do though.
I loved the RPG elements of Mario Golf Advance on GBA and wish they had done the same thing here. It made the game so addictive. I like the feeling of progression it provides. At least here the gear adds some customization and incentive so it still has a bit of the RPG element to it.
Andrew Phillips Honestly, i feel like the other hand held titles included that RPG element because it offered some sort of incentive to buy compared to its console counterpart. You have to remember, the Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games (I know the GBA game was pretty impressive for its time) were pretty much out shined by their superior console counter parts. Since the 3DS is powerful enough to give you the console like look, they probably felt it didnt need that RPG element to entice people to buy. Plus..there is no console counterpart, sad as that may be. Like you said though, at least we get some customization that actually makes your Mii play better.
Very good review as always Josh. Looks to be an excellent outing for Mario Golf, just wish the Castle Club was more fleshed out than it appears. At least there's online multiplayer
I love how the cute golf games like Mario Golf and Hot Shots have more depth to them than PGA games. You would never see me actually watching or playing real golf, but I love Mario Golf and Hot Shots Golf.
I don't think that I even played Hot Shots Golf before (or I might have played the PS1 version), but I heard that it is a very good game to play with friends.
SiMgUrL1721 Yeah it is a great series. The gameplay mechanics are very similar to Mario Golf due to being the same development team. I played the first one on PS1 back in the day and now I have the PS3 version Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds. I think the newest one is on Vita and also ported to PS3 but heard the port isn't that great but the Vita version is pretty good.
oh ok. I just got Mario Golf: World Tour for my 3DS yesterday and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 for the PS3. I might trade back in Tiger Woods 08 if I don't like that version. I heard that the online is shut down in the older Tiger Woods PGA tour games. I might even buy the PS3 version of Hot Shots Golf, if I get a chance to try it out first since I believe it's a PlayStation exclusive game.
SiMgUrL1721 Yeah I'd highly recommend Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds. It is a PS3 exclusive. Also came out in 2008 I believe, so it shouldn't be that expensive by now.
Hey Josh, are you waiting for the switch mario golf game. Clearly camalot is most consistent with this series and the new tennis was pretty decent, other then the lack of mini game modes to mix things up obviously.
Late comment but I have to say, the visuals in this game clearly beat toadstool tour. Sure it's a great game, but if you take the nostalgia goggles off, this game is visually more appealing.
About the missing of certain jumps "blaming" it on the fact that it's designed for 3D....well....that's called "spatial awareness". Something tested also in certain IQ tests :P!!! I don't see that as a problem, but more intended, and if your spatial awareness is not that good, indeed, you'll face problems :P
I don't play Mario Kart games but after watching this review I feel as if NO ONE has the right to complain about the DLC. The game is only $30 and seems like it has tons of content.
Adam Kovacs Either way the game seems to be just as complete or as full featured as other games in it's price range. I think the DLC is justified enough.
I couldn't stand TT purely because of the ****ing Boo that flew by with the banner every 15 seconds to tell you the controls! "[cackle cackle] Press A to take your shot." STFU>FO!! N64 version ftw!
Holy shit this is so much better than Super Rush

I was about to write the same thing, love his review format.
Thanks! :)

Totally agree with you. Instantly subscribed! Never change your reviewing methods. :)
Wait, so it isn't just a golfing simulator with Mario characters? Mario Golf Toadstool Tour can go die lonely and forgotten and I want this!
I forgot this game existed, oh man I gotta find a copy ASAP. I haven't had a reason to play my 3ds in a long time since I got a Vita and Switch.
"It's just not all is could be." If you don't think Waluigi spinning like a ballerina on a chair with his head on his foot isn't all it could be, then you just want too much.

Just screenshoted you comment, you just said my thoughts.
This roster (DLC + unlockables) is 100x better than Mario Kart 8's.
I'm hoping there will be more characters in MK8, because some characters (pink-gold peach...) are disappointing...
DiamondWes16 I just need my Super Baby Yellow Silver Yoshi XD
Yet people are more excited about MK8.
I dunno man this doesnt have pink gold peacj
Mario Kart 8 has entered the chat***
I love that Camelot is still making these games, they have always done a great job.
Thanks for the in depth review, Josh! Will be picking up this as well as Kirby Triple Deluxe in a few hours.
You were right on the dot with the having to get used to the controls, it did take a little getting used to, at least in the demo, which I have eagles in all but 3 holes
Nice review, but for some reason I thought you wouldn't like the game. And only one pun?? Come on Josh
Nice review! Why couldn't Mario Kart 8 have this roster!? For real...
Would you really have these 18 characters over MK8's 30 so far?
Yep.. 5 baby characters that are all pretty much the same, 7 koopalings that are all pretty much the same as well and metal Mario followed by Pink metal peach or some crap!? Yea I think I would.
They could've used the castle idea to add some RPG elements like they did in Mario Tennis on the GBC

Thanks for that review!
I didn't want this game... Then I played the demo...
Very good review as always Josh. Looks to be an excellent outing for Mario Golf, just wish the Castle Club was more fleshed out than it appears. At least there's online multiplayer
Watching this after Super Rush was announced because Golf is the only sports game I've never played, and "3D Visuals aren't up to *par* Haha.
Sweet, late night vids.
I love how the cute golf games like Mario Golf and Hot Shots have more depth to them than PGA games. You would never see me actually watching or playing real golf, but I love Mario Golf and Hot Shots Golf.

Wow playable Nabbit that looks pretty cool but when I first saw the character I thought of Ravio from A Link Between Worlds.
I might have to get this. I've been playing Mario Golf Toadstool Tour lately and it's had me itching for more.
It’s even better than Toadstool Tour. Gameplay-wise, this one is king.
Good review.
looks good but it will never beat hot shots golf franchise
Cool very good review with a fair score
Any views in 2017? 🔥👍🏽
Therealdhfk 2019😂q
Great review, can't wait to pick this up!
I think mario golf world tour is going to be released. Maybe
I just picked up a 2ds xl is this the best possible golf game I can play on it ?
Hey Josh, are you waiting for the switch mario golf game. Clearly camalot is most consistent with this series and the new tennis was pretty decent, other then the lack of mini game modes to mix things up obviously.
Should get it tomorrow can't wait!
about what kylie koopa said, i have the game now since yesterday :D
Thank you for this awesome review! Now I'm gonna buy it!
Back when Mario Sports titles were actually good.
i love your reviews
So the clubhouse in this is different than story mode on the GBA or GBColor games? (I liked those games) And it looked kinda similar to that.
wheres all the other video reviews for this game?
Shall I ask this game for my birthday? I really enjoyed the demo, but it is pretty expensive.
This really reminds me of Pangya.
The demo is pretty fun
Hopefully, this game gets a switch port onto the switch to promote the switch's online system
Why a port? Why not an actual sequel?
Uh, i dont think the online will be that great, i bought Tennis Open when it came out, and you never found anyone to play with in matchmarking :/
The 3d effect is a definate Hole in one to me.

Nice review!
No taunting? What a shame.
It's just wrong that this got a higher rating than 3d world
I don't play Mario Kart games but after watching this review I feel as if NO ONE has the right to complain about the DLC. The game is only $30 and seems like it has tons of content.
You mean Mario Golf, right? Lol
chknrsandTBBTROX73
LOL oops! Yes! I've been playing way too much MK7 and watching too many MK8 videos!
Adam Kovacs
Either way the game seems to be just as complete or as full featured as other games in it's price range. I think the DLC is justified enough.
45$ for a full game isnt even expensive
Emmanuel Mondesir It is if it is a handheld game with gameplay that has don't many times before.
They really love shoving that white 3ds in our faces. I guess they don't realize it's not available in the states >.>
the closest we got was the new leaf special edition which i got haha
Would you say this game is better than Toadstool Tour?
Yes
HE DIDN'T FUCKING ASK YOU MICHAEL!
I couldn't stand TT purely because of the ****ing Boo that flew by with the banner every 15 seconds to tell you the controls!
"[cackle cackle] Press A to take your shot." STFU>FO!!
N64 version ftw!
I'm going to die in 80 years
what about the money you have to spend on the 6 MISSING courses that cost more than the game now...!?
i get this today and is a fun game!
I played dis but I lost me 3ds :c
I was exited for this.... -_-
