It's been 15 years since his run of Company, but the way Raul sings the word "alive" hasn't changed and *still* sends shivers down my spine. This is probably my favorite performance out of this whole production and that's saying something. Bravo.
I'm so obsessed with this man that it's unhealthy Also, lyrics: Let me see the world with clouds Take me to the world Out where I can push through crowds Take me to the world A world of skies That's bursting with surprise To open up my eyes for joy Take me to the world that's real Show me how it's done Teach me how to laugh, to feel Move me to the sun Just hold my hand whenever we arrive Take me to a world where I can be alive Let me see the world that smiles Take me to the world Somewhere I can walk for miles Take me to the world With all around things growing in the ground Where birds that make a sound are birds We shall see the world come true We shall have the world I won't be afraid with you We shall have the world I'll hold your hand and know I'm not alone We shall have the world to keep Such a lovely world we'll weep We shall have the world forever for our own
When he sings 🎶 I’ll hold your hand and know I’m not alone We shall have the world to keep Such a lovely world we’ll weep We shall have the world forever for our own🎶 I want to cry, it’s so beautiful.
This interp is magnificent. He acts the song appropriately for the time we're living thru - offering humor (somewhere I can walk for miles) and pathos (such a lovely world we'll weep). I thought this was one of the most successful song of the broadcast - well sung, well acted, well lit, and scaled for a screen. I was very moved.
I couldn't agree more. I always thought he sang well (through music and some videos on UA-cam) but this though, you can clearly see how he emotes. While there were many great performances that night, this was definitely a standout for me.
I'd never heard this song before (I'd only ever heard "I Remember Sky" from Evening Primrose), and now it has wrecked me. It's as if it was WRITTEN for this almost-year of Covid quarantine. I can't believe how fitting...how heartbreaking...and Raul honestly looks so sad. So actually, for real sad.
Lockdown has given this wonderful song added poignancy. And Raul Esparza's interpretation is truly superb - it begins quietly, then builds and builds to a magnificent climax. Bravo!
c'mon Raul - i've been riding out this pandemic alone for months...the last thing I need is a beautiful man singing so beautifully. with those eyes, it looks like you're singing directly to me. you're quite extraordinary!
THIS is all the proof needed to show that an artist only needs the talent, love of the lyrics and music and his own sheer joy to bring a song to life. He could do this in a phone booth! Beautiful!
For some reason the line " Where birds that make a sound.. are birds " makes me cry every single time. The genius of Sondheim, and a perfect song for our times
In the context of the short Tv movie it's from... The character is trapped living in a department store... And an earlier scene he hears birds that are only recording
@@bruce4732 I know . Have you seen Evening Primrose ? The film quailty of it on UA-cam is terrible , but its still an affecting piece. Its poignant enough in the film , but it really works as a lockdown song
Geez Louise! The song is less than 3 minutes but he is able to inject his brand of vocals and presence and interpretation into this classic Sondheim tune. I love Raul's stage presence but seeing him here in front of a camera singing his heart out, just makes me clap encore for a job well done! Brava!! One of my all time male Broadway artists.
A quiet morning, a moment of pause, then I find this. It's a wool blanket, a warm cup of broth, a realization of hope. Talent that truly leaves me speechless, and with a tear in my eye.
C’mon, this is a triple Wow! The whole Sondheim at 90 ensemble is supremely talented, but in this case Raul is simply untouchable. Listen to his initial frailty, then expanded phrasing and climactic ending. I’m on my 6th listen so far and it’s still fresh. BTW, Jake Gyllenhaal’s Sondheim performance also is wonderful.
I’m not a big fan of male singers. But I fell in love with this guy after seeing him in company years ago. Not many guys can interpret like he does. Listen to his “marry me a little”. It’s wonderful. Or his “hallelujah “.
There are other songs on the web that Raul sings that are wonderful too. Some were new to me, but I have come to love them all. Some of the songs he sings in Spanish, and I love them too.

I only just saw him in company on Friday night I hadn't seen it on UA-cam before. He was amazing. I'd watched the Sondheim tribute a few weeks before, and had no idea who he was. Now I'm a big fan!
I think this may be my favorite Sondheim song. Hearing this sung during the early months of COVID isolation, not knowing when and how it would end…this jut brought me to tears. It still does.
Raul has been on Broadway and Off Broadway many times. He has extensive expertise in this area as well. I saw him in the musical "Taboo" and off Bway 'The Normal Heart". He was brilliant in BOTH.
I rarely hear and see a singer who can take a song, and show and feel so much emotion. He has a beautiful voice. I think he has more than just a Broadway voice and probably could do a full concert! I'd love that. Raul, you are quite gifted...stretch your wings and go out on your own❤.
Barba baby, Barba bubbe. The most incredible, moving interpretation of this song. Tears at my heart. Breaks it, then repairs it. Sondheim prefers actors who can sing vs. singers who can act. This proves him correct.
OMG. Raul...this takes aging gracefully to a whole other level. I pretty sure any guy who looks this good at Raul's age would be happy. I mean....DAMN! I love this, he's just a perfect.
I fell in love with this man during the pandemic. He did so much to keep bringing the arts to us while we were stuck in quarantine. Broadway's Stars in the House, Tartuffe, The Waves, interviews, and of course this masterpiece for Sondheim's birthday. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Raúl. You truly helped to keep me sane.
My god!!!what was that. I can't believe that he sing so beatuful. Incredible interpetracion and his eyes looking at you and transferring all his soul to you with that eyes. I'm stunned. Thank for give us so lovely music and amazing interpretacion.
Can an impossibly lyrical, beyond intense Sweeney not lie ahead? Magnificent, the first climacteric of that Epochal Happening. Thank you, Mr. Esparza. 💞🎶🎭👏🎭🎶💞
I swear. I will protect Raul with my life. He's so perfect. I'm coming for the 2 people who disliked this.
SAME.
I'll help you out!
Me to
Sometimes I don't think we deserve his perfection.
I totally concur.

Pack your bags, Raul, we're going to the world.
I'm so obsessed with this man that it's unhealthy
Also, lyrics:
Let me see the world with clouds
Take me to the world
Out where I can push through crowds
Take me to the world
A world of skies
That's bursting with surprise
To open up my eyes for joy
Take me to the world that's real
Show me how it's done
Teach me how to laugh, to feel
Move me to the sun
Just hold my hand whenever we arrive
Take me to a world where I can be alive
Let me see the world that smiles
Take me to the world
Somewhere I can walk for miles
Take me to the world
With all around things growing in the ground
Where birds that make a sound are birds
We shall see the world come true
We shall have the world
I won't be afraid with you
We shall have the world
I'll hold your hand and know I'm not alone
We shall have the world to keep
Such a lovely world we'll weep
We shall have the world forever for our own
Me too
He got such an incredible magnetism
Sheer, intense beauty!
When he sings
🎶 I’ll hold your hand and know I’m not alone
We shall have the world to keep
Such a lovely world we’ll weep
We shall have the world forever for our own🎶
I want to cry, it’s so beautiful.

Perfect description of this wonderful performance!

RIP Stephen Sondheim. Thank you for the music and stories.

It's August and I'm still watching this pretty much every day.

I can't stop watching this. Every day. Multiple times.

Raul sings from the heart. Beautiful performance.💞🎶💗
The talent in this man makes me shiver
watching this video on a daily basis is like a prayer to me
This song is just the embodiment of a warm hug. I love him so much.

Absolutely breathtaking. To know that there is talent like this in the world gives me hope.
I can't believe this is the first and only comment so far. :o
I love Raul Esparza as an actor and now I love his singing too. Gorgeous!
He's so pretty
Amazing vocal control
My guy, Raul. Encore, as always. Such a lovey voice and beautiful man.
I think this may be my favorite Sondheim song. Hearing this sung during the early months of COVID isolation, not knowing when and how it would end…this jut brought me to tears. It still does.
I’ve had this rendition on loop for so long. Just lovely.
Raul Esparza blows me away everytime
I cry every time I watch this and I just watched it four times in a row😖
Perfection, Raul!
One of the best performer!
I love this man with my whole heart. His performance was truly amazing. I cannot put it into adequate words. Truly.
His voice is awesome & the range is amazing plus you never know what to expect when he sings a song ; oh apart from goosebumps 👍💙🎼
He's so gorgeous. Precious human being and with such a gift ❤️
His voice is so good 😭😭😭 god I love him
This is absolutely amazing. He has such a beautiful voice. I miss him on Law and Order SVU.
Raul has been on Broadway and Off Broadway many times. He has extensive expertise in this area as well. I saw him in the musical "Taboo" and off Bway 'The Normal Heart". He was brilliant in BOTH.
this mans voice is amazing, wow. just wow.
This is a regular on my 'attempting to keep calm' playlist. I had never heard of Evening Primrose despite being a huge Sondheim fan.
Oh my gosh! I almost cried 😟🥺💙
Me too, we can cry together 😓

Wow - amazing performance, of a gorgeous number, by Raul Esparza
So unbelievably beautiful !!! This man is so talented 🥰
Just a beautiful version of this very poetic, hopeful, soulful wish for the world. Well done Raoul, well done.
Thank You Raul! You are truly the best.
His voice and passion singing is one of the most beautiful thing ❤
I love the emotion he gives it.
What a glorious voice!
His voice is so pretty! 😍 I've only known him as Dr. Chilton on Hannibal. He's amazing!
Amazing performance. Just gorgeous. 👏👏👏
Finally! I've been going back to the stream too many times just to have this on repeat.
I can't help it but cry everytime I hear him sing this song. He gives so much emotion. Thank you Mister Esparza. 🙏🙏🙏

Please record this in a studio Raul! It's the best rendition I've heard!
I LOVE YOU RAÚL😍
Ay, ay ay, Raúl! Eres mi vida❤ So many feelings, so many emotions in his words, his facial expressions. ❤
That vibrato on every “world”....divine!
Barba baby, Barba bubbe. The most incredible, moving interpretation of this song. Tears at my heart. Breaks it, then repairs it. Sondheim prefers actors who can sing vs. singers who can act. This proves him correct.
ingenious svu/company reference!
i wasn't aware he was a singer and now my heart aches and wishes he sang in Pushing Daisies
Funny, I knew only as a singer when I watched Company.
OMG. Raul...this takes aging gracefully to a whole other level. I pretty sure any guy who looks this good at Raul's age would be happy. I mean....DAMN! I love this, he's just a perfect.
This is truly extraordinary!
I am semi obsessed with it
Simply beautiful

To sing Sondheim is always a challenge, my regards to you for your effort.
A grand performance. 🎉
Wow, he’s an amazing lawyer and singer!
I saw this on the broadcast and loved it. I wasn't lucky enough to see him in "Company". Hope to see him in a musical again one day!

Angelic voice. I would want this professionally recorded but this video is good too. ;)
