- Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi is an evergreen hit song from the film Awaara 1951, directed and produced by Raj Kapoor who also plays the leading role. Music was composed by the team of Shankar Jaikishan. Kapoor's real-life father Prithviraj Kapoor stars as his on-screen father Judge Raghunath. Kapoor's youngest real-life brother Shashi Kapoor plays the younger version of his character. Prithiviraj's father Dewan Bashwanath Kapoor also
played a cameo role in his only film appearance.
The film centers on the intertwining lives of poor Raj (Kapoor) and privileged Rita (Nargis). In the film, Kapoor's poor, innocent "little tramp" character references Charlie Chaplin and was further developed in other Kapoor films such as Shri 420.
The film became an overnight sensation in South Asia, and found success abroad. Lyrics were by Shailendra. The film became hugely popular across the Indian subcontinent, as well as in the Soviet Union, China, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Romania.
The film was also nominated for the Grand Prize of the Cannes Film Festival in 1953. Owing to its popularity in so many countries, the film is a candidate for most successful film of all time. In 2012, Awaara was included in the 20 new entries to All-Time 100 greatest films by TIME.

Since you have raised a technical point, I must state that Banjo is one of the sweetest musical instruments on which hundreds or thousands of songs can be easily played with perfection. I do not know why its use has declined. One reason is that it is quite complicated in construction and fetches little earnings.
I do not consider producing meend is a specific limitation of BANJO since that is common to PIANO, GUITARS and many more instruments. Thanks.

Thank you so much for the wonderful videos! I have watched them over and over continuously and never lose appreciation for your music. The art and practice of world music is my absolute passion. All sounds ranging for the oud to the accordion, the saz and saxophone. Each culture, its instruments, and the musicians therein leave something beautiful for some part of the world to remember, wether its big or small. Your playing along with my love for the sound of this instrument has compelled me to get a bulbul tarang myself. I was wondering if you could answer a question regarding the tuning of the drone strings. I messed around with the tuning myself, but it just doesnt sound right. How do you tune your instrument and do you have any further advice for a novice such as myself? Thank you again so much and I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing new videos of yours in the future.

+Grady Vasil The drone strings should be tuned with reference to the base note you generally follow. However there are variations which need an elaborate explanation which can be best discussed in a virtual situation. Thanks for your interest.

I really appreciate your passion for learning bulbul tarang and feel sure that you will succeed. Please watch thoroughly, the various songs played by good artists on banjo available at the youtube and make playlists. Your collection will be your best guide to learn. Then pick up some simple song, watch it repeatedly and try to gradually copy it. Your interest or passion will be your best teacher to guide you. Please remain in touch.
