Another John's Arcade on the Road! In this video we'll take a ride to my friend Dan's arcade for a Jersey Jack Emerald City Limited Edition Wizard of Oz pinball unboxing! This pinball machine is one of 1,000 pins that will be made. In this video, we'll unbox the pin, install the legs and topper, and play a few games. This pinball features an LCD display, color changing LEDs, a ton of magnets and toys, and has a beautiful looking cabinet. Game was designed by Joe Balcer with programming by Keith P. Johnston and Ted Estes. Sound by Chris Granner. These guys also worked on Stern's Simpsons Pinball Party and you can see some similarities in the design.

This game is incredible. The amount of thought and work that went into this is just amazing. Blows Stern out of the water IMO.
This is what a pinball machine should look like. Absolutely beautiful.
Was I bashing them? I didn't really mean to. However, it's clear to me that Jersey Jack is offering waaaaaay more quality and game for the same amount of money or less. $7,000 for a super modern well built and loaded JJP game VS. and $8000 Stern LE. There is NO comparison. JJP wins hands down.

I've played this game at the pinball hall of fame in Last Vegas, and again at Pinball Wizards in NH... I thought it was really innovative though it definitely feels different than a Williams or Stern. I've got to say my favorite part is the crystal ball, it looks incredible in person, the video doesn't do it justice.

Of all the different editions to this game, it's the Emerald City Edition I want to get some day, because I like the green sparkles.
I knew Jersey Jack Pinball had a good product. I'm looking at this as a lesson on what I can do right when I get to that point.
I'm not big on pinball machines, but that thing is damn beautiful.
i just saw this game for the first time in person tonight (though didn't get a chance to play it yet) around the corner from my apartment at the seattle pinball museum. it definitely would seem that jersey jack has entered the market with their balls in a wheelbarrow, to say the least. this feels like what pinball 2000 should have been. really excellent design and can't wait to actually play it. i just hope JJ doesn't go broke trying to sell these pricey but beautiful machines.
The game is absolutely superb. Never left me with a feeling of "...so what?" like a lot of the recent Stern titles. A dollar a play, but totally worth it. Super addictive 'cause you want to explore all the modes and stuff. Awesome.

Jersey jack machine kicks ass
It's about time somebody designs a Wizard of Oz-themed pinball table.
They have one of these WOZ tables in the pier arcade in Bournemouth, Dorset, United Kingdom.. Just in case any uk viewers out there want to give it a try. I loved the crystal ball, and the multicoloured LED play field. And the no place like home ball saver corner is trippy!!

Nice unboxing. Looks like a new Williams pin. Actually the best thing looks to be not even the LCD, but those amazing color change LEDs, finally a way to use LEDs that enhances the game in a way non-LED bulbs could never do.
The production values look great.
However, I would have much preferred an illustrative look, over Photoshopped imagery.
Having said that, the design sensibility is far better than Stern's recent works.

Great video John, that machine is pretty special. I really hope JJP can be successful and I'm sure it will make Stern up their game too, which is good news for us pinball fans. Can't wait to see a WoZ in the flesh!

Can future pinball emulate Granny and the Gators, or Caveman pinball machines? They're both video-game pinball hybrids, like Baby Pacman.

Yeah, it's probably more about the lighting than anything. I film in 1080p with a good camera and then UA-cam compresses the heck out of it.

That pinball cost about $6,500 if you pre-ordered it back then. I think it's about $8,000 if you order one now.
That's some serious build quality for sure. John, a review of the 'Addams Family' pinball in future would be great if you know of one near you.
I thought I was in focus during the gameplay. No? Do you mean when we were filming the playfield from above during gameplay? That was totally in focus, wasn't it?
That's why you buy the REGULAR edition Stern games and let the people with more money than sense buy the LE's, that offer very little extra in gameplay vs. the "pro" models.
Pinball as an investment is a mistake anyway.

Yes, I agree the cup holder is questionable.
Try posting a video on Vimeo. I personally like their HD quality much better. I dont even turn HD on on youtube because I get constance buffering and video lag. Or if possible find a hosting site that will just let us DL the video in quality HD.

Thanks for posting this John! I just got my email from JJ stating my WOZ should be here in a couple of weeks. The pin does looks awesome, but I'm kinda concerned about the little tweeks that need to be done to the pin. Still, I can't wait to get it now....especially after watching your review and video. Keep up the good work!

that state fair pop bumper is almost like a data east bumper.
The cup holders are wicked convenient and it cuts down on spills (in my experience). Very well done video, great sound. Just curious what you use for cam/mics?
They're also working on a Hobbit pinball machine.

I love the game... but hate the GI. You pretty much have to have some sort of 3rd party/external lighting to see the game. If you're in a dark room. Good luck seeing the ball ever.

The gameplay on Woz imho just isn't there , seems like they rushed the layout . shame because the machine looks fantastic .

That headphone jack is a cool idea for home use, but it seems like it would just be asking for trouble in a commercial environment. People would break connectors off in that thing about once a week. The old 1/4" headphone jacks are much more robust.
I'm not into pinball but those color changing LEDs have a really cool effect. The whole machine looks very classy. I like it.
I can't fathom the economics of these machines. It seems that they are too expensive for an operator to realistically make money on them. But I hope I'm wrong about that.

Why are you poking everything with your finger? Wouldn't the machine look nicer if the glass didn't have unnecessary fingerprints on it?
Can you change the limit of balls in game like changing 5 to 3 balls? Or is it permanent, Do they have this on both, Jersey Jack and Stern?
I'm sure you can. That's a pretty standard setting for all pinball games.
How much did the game cost? And how does the game perform when you tilt it?

You shouldn't bash Stern too much, their games still have lots of merit - just in a more traditional DMD type of way. Most of them are still fun and that AC/DC in the background is a great player.
