You're an amazing tutor from what I've seen, you go the perfect speed, most just go way too fast and you're just left confused and left to look elsewhere.
    Love your channel!

ah many thanks! 🙏 Cheers for that. It's a weird mix. I think people go quick because you're told to move quick to keep people engaged but I'm not convinced it works when you're teaching.......😊

I restart playing and practicing guitar half a year ago. I am 58 years old and stopped playing guitar at the age of 20.
The last couple of weeks I recognized knowledge as an ambush attack. After trying to practice every day at least a little, the improvement was not linear. Some days were so frustrating because it feels, that my skill ist decreasing. But when you no longer expect it, it works out.
I learn with an online course and UA-cam.
The course leads me thru the crafting cliffs ... slowly but surely ... and UA-cam videos like yours are helping my heart an soul.

This is perfectly put. Learning guitar and practise is exactly that! Sometime it gets better with time off and looking at a different song. Once you know what you mention in your message it’s a game changer. Many people give up because they think it should be linear. My advice is if you stick around long enough you’ll understand that anyway 😊🎸
Thanks for your message and I’m glad to have helped in some way 🙏

Thank you for you thoughts on practice Jo 🎸🎸
Setting weekly practice goals has worked best for me, both on the amount of time I would like to practice and lessons I would like to learn.
Your tutorials have also been very helpful and it’s very rewarding when I can learn to play them 😊😊

I feel like I don't really know how to practice or what to practice, so I just play songs, and try to learn new songs. But I don't believe my skills or techniques are improving, so I feel like I've plateaued a bit.

      Thanks for sharing that.
We all def hit those points.
Is songs all you want to learn or are you interested in other aspects of playing too?
How often do you pick your guitar up?

Some issues I have learning being all self taught, is aspects of music theory, no matter how many YT vids I watch I just don't understand and it's something I'd really like to to expand my knowledge and improvisation... My issue is understanding how triads are related to chords and how to figure them out quickly all over the fretboard, I have the same issue with arpeggios... Not seen a video yet of someone who can explain it so that I get it, I'm left feeling like I'm mentally deficient, lol

that stuff will all click together at some point. Have you looked at any theory based on songs you've learned? do you write songs? it blew my mind when it started to make sense. Do you understand what triad is?

@@jobywaterguitartuition well, I don't like playing covers but I will learn parts of songs / tunes to see how they put it together, I know quite a bit of theory, circle of 5ths, multitudes of scales and modes that I can improvise easily with, I get how songs are put together because yes I like to write my own stuff the only thing I really have difficulty with in theory is getting a full understanding of traids and arpeggios, but they're near as dammit the same thing (I think). I'm just wondering is there any way to practice them and get to understand them fully and how to use them. I have tab of triads major and minor A to G, but meh I can practice them, but I don't get it. lol
I understand that a triad is a series of 3 notes making up a chord as far as I'm aware and arpeggios I think are all the notes in a chord. I've been trying to understand them for around 2 years now it's kind of embarrassing.
I made my own thing out of your 'Ben E King - Stand by me tutorial' with some blues in a lead section :)

Nice one! It’s sounds like you’ve learnt a lot. Plus learning bits of songs and writing song coupled with undertaking and reinforcing the theory, sounds of modes / scales / keys / chord progressions is priceless 👍👍
I’m going to think on your question.
Have you learned any bits of songs that use triads or arpeggios?
