My take on the ending on why it just keeps going (and if the woman’s story is a direct reference to Johnny being the bear) is the director knows as an audience we are expecting something horrible to happen. We are tense and on edge (like our final girl) but they’re driving so far from Johnny it doesn’t make sense for him to pop out. Her anxiety and when’s the bad thing going to happen is reflected in the viewer. At least that’s what I took from it.

I had a weird situation where i had to pause the movie right as the final act started, so when I came back to it the next day I was supremely on edge for what was going to happen. the moment i realized that the director had successfully made me feel the same kind of anxious terror of the final girl, it really clicked to me how intentional it was. I see how some say its too much of a departure from the rest of the movie, but I think it makes it a better overall deconstruction of slasher movies. Like, "here is what is the implied reality of these movies," and then last act is "here is what actually happens to survivors of extreme violence"

I absolutely adore this movie. I know it's divisive, but I love the cinematography and ambient noise. It's a great homage to 80s slashers, and I appreciate the fresh take on the POV in the film. I heard they might make a sequel

I appreciate the final sequence on rewatch. When the truck stops to bandage the leg we're all on edge waiting for Johnny to suddenly be there for a final kill, even though we know thats impossible because of the distance travelled. But thats now going to be a fear she'll carry the rest of her life...always waiting for him to catch up to her. So creepy.
(But also just a nice treat to see Lauren Marie Taylor again)

That long walk after the yoga kill where he has to get his axe is where it kinda hits you that this is what Michael and Jason has to deal with in all their movies in that their lives are f***ing boring and every once in a while they can get proactive and kill people and its hilarious

I thought abt this too, like he’s just so bored that he has to come up with new and ‘creative’ ways to kill ppl, then he still just gets bored cuz it’s not exciting anymore 😂😂

Have you ever watched Behind the Mask? Because that film is almost exactly what you were discussing in the beginning about actually getting inside the head of what a slasher does. It's a fantastic movie for horror-heads.

I think one of the meain points was just that slasher antagonists are mostly boring if you really think about what their lives (undeaths?) are actually like. I like the idea, but it would have worked better for me as a like 40 minute short.

Speaking on the movie from a killers eyes and the “it’s really hard what we have to go through” perspective, you guys should really watch Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Even if not for the channel I think you guys would really enjoy it. It’s my favorite “satirical” horror

I thought it was interesting and different from other horror movies. Im just waiting for the sequel

Alot of people didn't like this movie but I thought it was awesome. People were pissed cause they ripped off Friday the 13th but I'm ok with that cause it doesn't look like wer÷we're going to be getting a new Friday the 13th anytime soon. I liked Johnny and his fire mask. The kills were really inventive and unique. I really liked this movie.

I appreciate what the filmmakers were trying to do here, so I don’t want to be too harsh on this movie, but I honestly feel like this was a cool idea for a 15 minute short film stretched out to 90 minutes. It’s so dull.
And did they have to give him THAT mask? He looks like a Scooby Doo villain. Sucks all the menace out of him, for me.

To anyone who may disagree, I dare you to tell me I’m wrong. This film was masterfully done in such a brilliant way. Yes the acting may be a bit rough but hey these are fresh actors, some where this is like their first feature film. And maybe the plot itself is a bit unoriginal sure. But the way it’s shot, the way the director plays with the sounds and camera angles is so brilliant. And there are some very unique and well written moments in this film that truly bring a new taste to the slasher genre. 2024 was a YEAR for creative film work. I mean please try to tell me I’m wrong

For clarification, I'm pretty sure Johnny was *also* a grown man when he died, but had the intellect of a child due to his disability - that's why the loggers weren't as willing to forgive the accident as they would have with an actual kid. It's also why I genuinely loved the scene where he starts playing with the toy car - it shows the audience what he was like prior to his homicidal rage over his father's death, and hearing the dead dad mentioned is what refocuses him on the teens and his mother's locket. It's honestly a really sad scene when you stop and think about it.
And with that last kill, it just occurred to me - the way the guy jumpscared Johnny is *very* reminiscent of how he died - no wonder he took it so personally!

My hot take: the yoga kill is not really much of a brutal kill. If the lady was not instantly dead from the belly punch, her spinal cord was severed and she wasn't feeling anything after. And the hook in the head definitely put her down. Everything that came after was just a brutal body mutilation that she didn't feel or was alive to realize.
