    I still remember when most of Native’s characters were based on Tony Works (Tony Taka) and after sometime they re-released an alternative color version of the same figure (Gamer Girl you have over there is a great example) made it hard to decide which version was the one to get. Thank you for making such a well structured and informative film.

      Always good to hear from you! Thank you for the kind words.
      More that you mention it, a LOT of Tony's do have those color variants. I didn't even realize they were almost always Tony's 👀
      Fun fact, I didn't want the black Santa Girl. I just couldn't read Japanese at the time and didn't understand what the sticker meant 😆 so I accidentally bought the black one when I only wanted the original. So now I have both 🤷

      @@KohaisCollection This is just my speculation but I believe TONY's works although they look great in 2D, they may not look great in figure form. With all due respect to the artist and his artwork but the STYLE may look dated to some people; by dated I do not mean as a rude criticism but rather that early-2000's-anime-style-look; which kind of is since it's been nearly 17 years since Native released their first figure. People change with the times and so does tastes, and I think there's a big chance new collectors MAY not want old (Design) figures in their collections even if they are brand new just because nowadays figures are a completely more detailed, painted, and complex then they were 15-20 years ago making those figures look plain and/or boring standing next to a modern one.
      Well, this is just my take but nevertheless I do still have my fair share of early figures (Not just Native) in my collection because it shows the early days of this awesome (and f*cking expensive) hobby.

    • @KohaisCollection
      @KohaisCollection  3 місяці тому

      @@VandebirtI think there's plenty of valid points and criticisms brought up there. His faces are very "flat" and, along with what you said, probably lent itself to easier production back in the day. Now that we're able to produce more curves and details, his "basic" characters aren't exciting. And we ALL know Tony literally has ONE face he gives every character 🤣 Then add that to the fact that his style is very dated, it can be quite dull.
      I was talking with someone else. Tony is the first artist I could recognize by name and style. So they hold a special place in my heart because they changed how I look at figures and this space. But there are SO many more artists that I appreciate far more nowadays. Nowadays it's like the James Clarkson meme "Oh it's a Tony. Anyways...". Literally since we've gotten into Doujin works, I've never once searched for any Tony Works, but spent countless hours looking for my other artists

    Thank you for this history lesson on Native :D Apparently, native is growing, and on Twitter/X they announced that UnBound will be a part of the "Native community".
    Right now, the Kousoku M-Ko is currently available as a used, complete edition on Yahoo Auction for 28900 YEN. I'll watch her auction and see for how much she ends up going, now that I know her value :D

    Loved Nakano Broadway Mandarake! What a coincidence, I went there on my trip to Japan in April. It was shocking seeing how many floors it spanned; though we found their selection of 18+ figures a little small. That or people had already bought all the popular figures we were looking before we arrived 😂

    love your in depth videos, I love the retro sci fi look on the first figure, even as the mind boggles on the pose! Fascinating! And I look forward to more of such 'silly discussions'. 😊
    Having owned a small number of Native's figures now, there were still so much information here for the uptake - I wasn't even aware about the two main types of classification 😅 Aside, the introduction and retained inclusion of postcard, earlier releases incorporating switchable sticker sheet and how they used to work with Max Factory were all very interesting learnings. I also wish figures these days can include more unique things like comic books.

      Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it and were able to find some new tidbits of info.
      I really can't imagine anyone using the sticker sheets! If they wanted those decals on the figure, I'd rather they just added it permanently (there are so few figures with hair anyways - if anything it would be a perk at this point).

      Your question got me to take a closer look at my collection - I started collecting around Oct, 21 and currently owned 5 from Native (3 Creator's Opinions/Collection and 2 Character Selection):
      My first was Original - Creator's Collection - "Witch of October 31st" Miss Orangette
      This is followed by Mio Blue, Olga Discordia (Wedding White), Carolina Yuri (Tanned) and Hotlimit Cover Girl Minatsu (who is also my current favorite, that base though 😞).

    • @WayneLLC
      @WayneLLC 3 місяці тому +1

      One thing I was curious about -
      Noted the topic at hand is about Native; what I am asking below is more about other figure brands and probably most appropriate to ask when you share other figure brands in future.
      Regarding the completeness (such as the inclusion of Postcard) as a collector, I like to know what your considerations might be when it comes to figures with say, dx version, wall scroll or acrylic stand and etc - whilst I try to go for dx version, I find myself in such predicaments over the other merchandise that come with it and wonder if I am missing out later on. But at the same time, I prefer if I do not have too many loose items that I may not be able to display 🤔

    • @KohaisCollection
      @KohaisCollection  3 місяці тому +1

      @@WayneLLC Good question! And may be a good thing to note as we continue others discussions. I think when it comes to like... AmiAmi stuff, I haven't noticed their wall scrolls/acrylic standees really add to the value when reselling since they are standalone items outside of the figure realm. In Japan, you'll actually find a lot of those AmiAmi exclusive standees and such sold for cheap. Now if the figure itself has a DX version or like a swappable part, those definitely seem to retain value well or increase in value. Recently, I specifically hunted down the Albedo Nendoroid with the body pillow exclusive preorder. These were definitely selling for more. For Azure Lane figures, the full versions with rigging seem to hold value better than the light versions too.

This year I'm getting a lot of satisfaction with many 18+ and non-18+ figures.I hope you manage to make new videos on UA-cam even 18+, you have a care and exposure of your figures that I simply adore, I only follow you and with great pleasure. Keep up the good work and good luck with everything!

      I actually have a Gathering Gawr Gura from them. Took a little over a year to get it, and their support was mmm just okay but I did get her in the end. And I do like the figure. it’s not as customisable as I would have liked but just from looking at it, it looks rly good.
      If you go for it, not that they’re ridiculously fragile compared to PVC figures. Be very careful with them.
      To speak to the other commenter’s message, they make bootlegs of garage kits sometimes. At fairly high quality as well, but it could be hit or miss. I personally don’t have a problem with this because the original kit was extremely limited and not at all obtainable for me. But I completely respect and understand anyone who doesn’t want to engage with them or their products based on that.
