Why my Oxalic Acid Treatments aren't Working

- Discussion on the improper uses of Oxalic Acid. Why are we still seeing hives dwindle and die in early fall?...Often due to improper use of mite treatment. Oxalic Acid is a great chemical to be used within the IPM strategies for management of Varroa, but only if used correctly.

I think from using OA for a few years now the vaporization method works the best. There are new OA products that you can use 2 grams per deep as a legal treatment. In SE Ohio I treat 5 times over 21 days with vaporization. This is legal. Then I treat again like you say just before the winter solstice. Great video.
They have recently changed the regal on OA treatment allowing it to be used multiple times for a cycle. I still believe it to be less effective to e than other methods when the colony is brooded up.

I completely agree….that full thought process I have not processed so it’s good that you brought it to my attention….I have always thought three treatments of Oxalic acid going into winter should suffice the need…..I’m definitely going to be treating with a longer active Apivar besides the Oxalic this year….Thanks….
Oxalic works great in winter and during a brood break…just not so good when they are loaded with brood. Apivar is a good late summer treatment in my opinion.

I used oxalis acid vapour every 5 days using a instantvap machine for about 5 weeks until I got nil mite drop at the start of last winter in the Waikato NZ . Haven’t found any so far this spring did another oxalis vapour tonight so will see if any drop on white board tomorrow.
The other year 2021 going to fall I noticed a problem, did a mite check found 40 mites per 300 bees just checked one hive out of 15, I treated them weeks before twice, but I wasn't using the right right amount so I went back in my studies to see what the amount to use was, long story short I treated them with the right amount, and I did not have to go back and re check, I had to clean bottom boards, bottom boards were thick with dead mites

I use this method around the winter solstice pretty regularly and it works well. I use other methods during heavy brood periods.
@@DysonApiaries well I treated my bees like august that time and didn't use the right dose the like three weeks later I see there was some thing wrong, and I think they were looking to abscond so I did a mite check and found that many mites per 300, so then gave them the right amount in dosage then 7 days later went to give them there second treatment but I had to clean the bottom boards first, there were that many dead mites on the bottom boards, so I then knew I did it right, and I treat my bees now every fall twice 7 days apart
Are you talking about dribble or sublimation?
Either. Oxalic does not penetrate the brood capping no matter the method.
